The Karman boundary-layer, has been numerically investigated for the disturbance wave number, wave velocity, azimuth angle and radius (Reynolds number, Re). The disturbed flow over rotating disk can lead to transition at a much lower Re than that of the well-known Type 1 mode of instability. This early transition is due to the excitation of the Type II mode. Presented are the neutral stability results concerning these modes by solving new formulated vorticity equations with consideration of whole convective terms. When the present numerical results are compared with the previously known results, the value of critical Re corresponding to Type I is moved from Rec,! =285.3 to 270.2 and the value corresponding to Type II is from $Re_{c,2}$=69.4 to 36.9, respectively. Also, the corresponding wave number is moved from $k_1$ =0.378 to $k_1$ =0.389 for Type I; from $k_2$ =0.279 to $k_2$=0.385 for Type II. For Type II, the upper limit of wave number and azimuth angle is $k_U$=0.5872,$varepsilon_U=-18^{\circ}$ , while its lower limit is$k_L$ =0.05, $varepsilon_L=-27^{\circ}$ This implies that the disturbances will be relatively fast amplified at small Re and within narrow bands of wave number compared with the previous results.

Screen can provide any disturbed resistance that affects the change in characteristics of turbulence, velocity and pressure distributions of the flow field, and thus it has been widely used to control the flow. Some previous related studies for compressible flows have limitations such as, considering relatively low-Mach-number flows in the range of 0.3 ∼ 0.7, and not observing the detailed shock structures of the flow fields. An experimental study on highly compressible axi-symmetric supersonic jet flow fields behind wire-gauze screen has thus been carried out. Continuous/instantaneous flow images by Schlieren flow- visualization technique and the information of Pitot pressure/flow-noise measurements of the flow field behind the screen for various jet expansion conditions have been obtained. Effects of various porosity and inclination angles of the screen at the nozzle exit have also been investigated, and the experimental results have been compared to the case with no screen installed.

The patency of small size vascular grafts is poor, and the blood flow characteristics in the artery graft anastomosis are suspected as one of the important factors influencing intimal hyperplasia. Disturbed flow patterns caused by sixte and compliance mismatch generate unfavorable flow environment which promotes intimal thickening. Tapered vascular yuts are suggested in order to reduce sudden expansion near the anastomosis. The photochromic flow visualization method is used to measure the flout fields in the end-to-end anastomosis model under the carotid and femoral artery flow wave form. The results show that flow disturbance near the anastomosis is diminished in the tapered grafts comparing to the tubular graft. As the divergent ang1e decreases, we can reduce the low and oscillatory wall shear stress zone which is prone to intimal hyperplasia. The flow wave form effects the wall shear rate dis- tribution significantly. The steep deceleration and back flow in the femoral flow wAve form cause low mean wall shear rate and high oscillatory shear index.
The gas-liquid counter-current flow limitation (CCFL) is closely related to efficient and safety operation of many equipment in industrial cycle. Air-water countercurrent flow experiments were performed in a tube with diameter of 25 mm to understand the triggering mechanism of CCFL. A parallel electrode probe was utilized to measure film thickness whereby the time domain and frequency domain characteristics of liquid film was obtained. The amplitude of the interface wave is small at low liquid flow rate while it becomes large at high liquid flow rate after being disturbed by the airflow. The spectral characteristic curve shows a peak-shaped distribution. The crest exists between 0 and 10 Hz and the amplitude decreases with the frequency increase. The analysis of visual observation and characteristic of film thickness indicate that two flooding mechanisms were identified at low and high liquid flow rate, respectively. At low liquid flow rate, the interfacial waves upward propagation is responsible for the formation of CCFL onset. While flooding at high liquid flow rate takes place as a direct consequence of the liquid bridging in tube due to the turbulent flow pattern. Moreover, it is believed that there is a transition region between the low and high liquid flow rate.
This paper reviewed the concept of the energy flow in east and west. The differences in the views of the energy flow between oriental and western thought were compaired according to the ontological point of view. Human body take up energy and material on open system which maintains homeostasis. Human and environment are continuously interacting in a state of co-existence. Human has energy field called "aura" and seven chakra in energy outflow moving came as meridian. Qi is an invisible cosmic energy helping the fundamental human activity and changes. The basic action of Qi is helping the human growth and development, maintain the body temperature and preventing the intrusion of microorganism. In the normal healthy organism, all are maintained in balance and in a continuous circulation of Qi, while illness is the result of the disturbed Qi flow in the aspect of Qi-theory. Although there are differences between oriental and western medicine in approaches to clients, the basic point of view and philosophy have many similarities on fundamental level. An understanding of the basic thought of energy flow and oriental concept of energy flow implies a more comprehensive meaning than the perspective of unitary transformation discussed in modern western thought of energy flow. Now we should avoid narrow view of energy concept and regard energy flow as an integrated concept with Korean culture. Regarding Qi-theory which provides a comprehensive and humanistic and ethical foundation for nursing philisophy through this overview, it is hoped that a contribution will be made to the development of nursing intervention which is suitable to Korean context.
In the presence of ${\mu}-tip$ embedded in a slot-die head for stripe coatings, there arises the capillary flow that limits an increase of the stripe density, which is required for the potential applications in organic light-emitting diode displays. With an attempt to suppress it, we have employed a computational fluid dynamics software and performed simulations by varying the ${\mu}-tip$ length and the contact angles of the head lip and ${\mu}-tip$. We have first demonstrated that such a capillary flow phenomenon (a spread of solution along the head lip) observed experimentally can be reproduced by the computational fluid dynamics software. Through simulations, we have found that stronger capillary flow is observed in the hydrophilic head lip with a smaller contact angle and it is suppressed effectively as the contact angle increases. When the contact angle of the head lip increases from $16^{\circ}$ to $130^{\circ}$, the distance a solution can reach decreases sharply from $256{\mu}m$ to $44{\mu}m$. With increasing contact angle of the ${\mu}-tip$, however, the solution flow along the ${\mu}-tip$ is disturbed and thus the capillary flow phenomenon becomes more severe. If the ${\mu}-tip$ is long, the capillary flow also appears strong due to an increase of flow resistance (electronic-hydraulic analogy). It can be suppressed by reducing the ${\mu}-tip$ length, but not as effectively as reducing the contact angle of the head lip.
It is desirable for the vertical wind tunnel which can build uniform air flow across the vertical duct to be used for the purpose of the investigation of the aerodynamic properties of grains. This study was conducted to examine how the air velocity profile in the vertical duct is influenced by the various alternations of the elements of the wind tunnel, and to prepare design guidance of the vertical wind tunnel which can be used for investigating aerodynamic properties of grains. In addition, several tests were conducted to locate the test section which can be applicable for determining the terminal velocity of grain. The following conclusions were obtained from the study: 1. The size and the location of the outlet of the plenum chamber should be determined such that the outlet air flow is less affected by the air flow and the back pressure by the side wall of the chamber. 2. The honeycomb was not helpful for attaining uniform air flow in case that the air flow profile at the bottom of the vertical duct is serverely different from the ideal one. 3. Even though considerable pressure drop was resulted from the screens installed within the vertical duct, the screens were helpful for attaining uniform air flow in the duct. 4. It is desirable for the test section to be located at the position that not only the air flow of the duct is not disturbed by the distorted back pressure in the plenum chamber, but also less boundary layer is developed.

This study experimentally investigated the effects of high and low densities of vegetation patches on the flow characteristics in a stream-scale outdoor experimental channel with rooted willows. Stream-scale experiments on vegetated flows were carried out for an emergent condition of vegetation. Vegetation patches were arranged by alternate bar formation and the flows in vegetated and non-vegetated sections were compared. Three-dimensional flow structure was measured by ADV (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter) and the vertical distributions of longitudinal velocity were mainly analyzed from the measurements at various points. Flow velocities show different patterns depending on the density of vegetation patches. The difference in flow velocity between in the vegetated and non-vegetated sections appear to large in the dense patches and the flow becomes complicated at the downstream edge of the patch. Despite the upstream flow disturbed by the first patch, the flows over the second patch show the similar pattern.
In this paper, a numerical study is carried out to investigate the turbulent flow around a twin-skeg container ship model with rudders including propeller effects. A commercial CFD code, FLUENT is used with body forces distributed on the propeller disk to simulate the ship stem and wake flows with the propeller in operation. A multi-block, matching, structured grid system has been generated for the container ship hull with twin-skegs in consideration of rudders and body-force propeller disks. The RANS equations for incompressible fluid flows are solved numerically by using a finite volume method. For the turbulence closure, a Reynolds stress model is used in conjunction with a wall function. Computations are carried out for the bare hull as well as the hull with appendages of a twin-skeg container ship model. For the bare hull, the computational results are compared with experimental data and show generally a good agreement. For the hull with appendages, the changes of the stem flow by the rudders and the propellers have been analyzed based on the computed result since there is no experimental data available for comparison. It is found the flow incoming to the rudders has an angle of attack due to the influence of the skegs and thereby the hull surface pressure and the limiting streamlines are changed slightly by the rudders. The axial velocity of the propeller disk is found to be accelerated overall by about 35% due to the propeller operation with the rudders. The area and the magnitude of low pressure on the hull surface enlarge with the flow acceleration caused by the propeller. The propellers are found to have an effect on up to the position where the skeg begins. The propeller slipstream is disturbed strongly by the rudders and the flow is accelerated further and the transverse velocity vectors are weakened due to the flow rectifying effect of the rudder.
In this study, the effect of relative position of the blade for the fixed vane has been investigated on blade surface heat transfer. The experiments were conducted in a low speed stationary annular cascade, and heat transfer of blade was examined for six positions within a pitch. Turbine test section has one stage composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length of the tested blade is 150 mm and the mean tip clearance of the blade having flat tip is about $2.5\%$ of the blade chord. For the detailed mass transfer measurements on the blade surfaces, a naphthalene sublimation technique was used. The inlet flow Reynolds number is fixed to $1.5{\times}10^5$. Complex heat transfer characteristics are observed on the blade surface due to various flow characteristics, such as separation bubble, relaminarization, transition to turbulence and leakage vortices. The distributions of velocity and turbulence intensity change significantly with the relative position due to the blockage effect of the blade. This causes the variation of heat transfer patterns on the blade surface. The results show that the flow near the leading edge get highly disturbed and deflected toward the either side of the blade when the blade leading edge is positioned close to the trailing edge of the vane. Therefore, separation bubble disappears on the pressure side and overall heat transfer on the relaminarization region is increased. But, due to reduced tip gap flow at the upstream region, the effect of leakage flow on the upstream region of the blade surface is weakened. Thus, the heat transfer characteristics significantly change with the blade positions.
