An attempt was made to apply digital image correlation (DIC) strain analysis to in-situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of bending deformation to quantify local strain distribution inside a ZnMgAl-alloy coating in deformation. Interstitial-free steel sheets were hot-dipped in a Zn-3Mg-6Al (mass%) alloy melt at 400 ℃ for 2 s. The specimens were deformed using a miniature-sized 4-point bending test machine inside the SEM chamber. The observed in situ SEM images were used for DIC strain analysis. The hot-dip ZnMgAl-alloy coating exhibited a solidification microstructure composed of a three-phase eutectic of fine Al (fcc), Zn (hcp), and Zn2Mg phases surrounding the primary solidified Al phases. The relatively coarsened Zn2Mg phases were locally observed inside the ZnMgAl-alloy coating. The DIC strain analysis revealed that the strain was localized in the primary solidified Al phases and fine eutectic microstructure around the Zn2Mg phase. The results indicated high deformability of the multi-phase microstructure of the ZnMgAl-alloy coating.
The assembly of the main system of the KSTAR tokamak has been recently completed, and the preparation for the 1st plasma and test operations is progressed. The fueling system established for these purposes uses only one port placed at the opposite side of the pumping duct, and has a difficulty of attaining a uniform and fast supply of fuel particles to the plasma. At the base operation stage after finishing the test operation, the fueling system must be improved to provide a uniform fueling and a feed-back control in accordance with a high-density tokamak plasma maintained for a long period. As a part for understanding the points to be improved in the fueling system, a Monte Carlo simulation on the gas fueling into the tokamak plasma has been executed. After modeling the vacuum vessel and the plasma of quasi-D shapes as tori of rectangular cross-sections, the influences of the position and the number of the fueling inputs on the particle density distribution for a given pumping probability and mean free path were investigated.

Caenorhabditis elegans, a free-living nematode mainly found in the soil pore water, roles the critical function in trophic levels, energy flow, and decomposition in soil ecosystem. C. elegans is commonly used species to test soil toxicity. Recently, they are employed broadly as a test organism in nanotoxicology. In this study, a review of the toxicity of nanomaterials for C. elegans was presented based on SCI (E) papers. The nanotoxicity studies using C. elegans have been reported in 20 instances including the mechanism of toxicity. Most studies used K-medium, S-medium, and NGM (Nematode Growth Medium) plate as an exposure medium to test toxicity of nanoparticles. The effects observed include anti aging, phototoxicity, genotoxicity, and dermal effects on C. elegans exposed to nanoparticles. We found that the toxic mechanisms were related with various aspects such as lifespan abnormality, oxidative stress, distribution of particles on inter-organisms, and stress-related gene analysis. C. elegans has advantage to test toxicity of nanoparticles due to various cellular activities, full genome information, and easy observation of transparent body. C. elegans was considered to be a good test species to evaluate the nanotoxicity.

This study estimates the metacentric height (GM) of a model ship by varying the transverse weight distribution, considering the effects of the roll period and moment of inertia, and compares it with the GM values measured by the inclining test. In the process, the relationship between the values is analyzed. Three types of ships-a 7-ton fishing vessel, 20-ton fishing vessel, and KRISO Very Large Crude-oil Carrier (KVLCC)-were used for the experiment and comparison. The roll period and moment of inertia were measured using the free roll decay and swing frame tests, and the GM was measured using inclining test. The estimated GM from the roll period and moment of inertia showed the same trend as the GM measured using the inclining test in the change of the weight distribution. However, the GM values measured using the inclining test were lower. Therefore, additional correction factors or parameters other than the roll period and moment of inertia are necessary for estimating GM. In the future, the relationship between the weight center and the estimated GM will be analyzed to derive the correction factors.

This study investigated the sensory attributes and quality characteristics of Fuji apples based on market commodity price to provide data for quality index of Fuji apples. Samples were purchased from the Garak market (Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation) and divided into four groups depending on the price such as group A, B, C, D. There were no significant differences in their volume and weight among groups. In the soluble solid content and total free sugar, A and B group (high price) showed higher content than those of C and D (low price) group. And also, the A group and B, C, D group showed 386.29 mg% and 320.09~359.28 mg% in the total organic acid content, respectively. As an sensory evaluation results, A group and B group were evaluated higher score than those of C and D group in the uniformity of red color and glossiness of skin and unique apple sensory attributes using quantitative descriptive analysis. Consumer test showed similar to quantitative descriptive analysis results in the various sensory attributes. In the analysis results between quality characteristics and sensory attributes of Fuji apples, total acceptability was correlated positively with titratable acidity (r=0.58), soluble solid (r=0.89), soluble solid content/titratable acidity ratio (r=0.42), total free sugar (r=0.36) and total organic acid (r=0.38). Based on principal component analysis of apple's quality characteristics, apples were primary separated along the first principal component (pH, acidity, soluble solid content, total free sugar, organic acid), which accounted for 66.01% of total variance. In addition, principal component analysis of sensory evaluation revealed a total variance for the quantitative descriptive of 55. 65% and a total variance for the consumer test of 55.84%.

A new Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) airborne measurement platform has been established for regular observations for scientific purpose over South Korea since late 2017. CRDS G-2401m analyzer mounted on the King Air 350HW was used to continuous measurement of CO2, CH4 and CO mole fraction. The total uncertainty of measurements was estimated to be 0.07 ppm for CO2, 0.5 ppb for CH4, and 4.2 ppb for CO by combination of instrument precision, repeatability test simulated in-flight condition and water vapor correction uncertainty. The airborne vertical profile measurements were performed at a regional Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Anmyeon-do (AMY) station that belongs to the Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) and provides concurrent observations to the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite (GOSAT) overpasses. The vertical profile of CO2 shows clear altitude gradient, while the CH4 shows non-homogenous pattern in the free troposphere over Anmyeon-do. Vertically averaged CO2 at the altitude between 1.5 and 8.0km are lower than AMY surface background value about 7 ppm but higher than that observed in free troposphere of western pacific region about 4 ppm, respectively. CH4 shows lower level than those from ground GAW stations, comparable with flask airborne data that was taken in the western pacific region. Furthermore, this study shows that the combination of CH4 distribution in free troposphere and trajectory analysis, taking account of convective mixing, is a useful tool in investigating CH4 transport processes from tropical region to Korean region in winter season.

This study compared the dentin shear bond strengths of currently used dentin bonding agents that were irradiated with an LED (Elipar FreeLight, 3M-ESPE) and a halogen light (VIP, BISCO). The optical characteristics of two light curing units were evaluated. Extracted human third molars were prepared to expose the occlusal dentin and the bonding procedures were performed under the irradiation with each light curing unit. The dentin bonding agents used in this study were Scotchbond Multipurpose (3M ESPE), Single Bond (3M ESPE), One-Step (Bisco), Clearfil SE bond (Kuraray), and Adper Prompt (3M ESPE), The shear test was performed by employing the design of a chisel-on-iris supported with a Teflon wall. The fractured dentin surface was observed with SEM to determine the failure mode. The spectral appearance of the LED light curing unit was different from that of the halogen light curing unit in terms of maximum peak and distribution. The LED LCU (maximum peak in 465 nm) shows a narrower spectral distribution than the halogen LCU (maximum peak in 487 nm). With the exception of the Clearfil SE bond (P < 0.05), each 4 dentin bonding agents showed no significant difference between the halogen light-cured group and the LED light-cured group in the mean shear bond strength (P > 0.05). The results can be explained by the strong correlation between the absorption spectrum of camphoroquinone and the narrow emission spectrum of LED.

A comparative study between a wind tunnel test and an XFOIL simulation looking at the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil for MW-class wind turbine was conducted for validation in the design stage. Tests are carried out for 21% and 30% thickness-ratio airfoils developed for 5 ~ 10 MW offshore wind turbine and the results are compared with the output from the XFOIL simulation at Reynolds number $1.0{\times}10^7$. The test is performed at a free-stream velocity of 50 m/s, corresponding to a Reynolds number of $2.2{\times}10^6$ based on the chord. Surface roughness is simulated using a zig-zag tape. Discrepancies between the results of the test and the XFOIL analysis are found, however, meaningful data for surface pressure distribution, basic performance and surface roughness effect are obtained from the tests, while useful lift-to-drag ratio data is found by the XFOIL simulation.

As it carry out RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standards), power producers are using the power bio-fuel oil to meet their RPS quota. In this study, we test the quality characteristics of raw materials for power bio-fuel oil and the property changes of power bio-fuel oil by the kind of feedstocks. The power bio-fuel oil and feedstocks were analyzed for item of quality standard such as acid number, viscosity and metal contents. And it was analyzed for composition distribution by FT-IT and HPLC. Such as low priced palm oil series has high acid number and ash contents due to high free-fatty acid and metal contents. And by-product of biodiesel have a tendency of high viscosity. The fuel properties of power bio-fuel oil, such as viscosity, acid number and metal contents are correlated with the constituent and the mixing ratio of the feedstocks.

The study of bond behavior between concrete and rebar has been performed for a long time. On this study, we tried to analysed variation of bond behaviors quantitatively with varying the strength of concrete. Bond stress which observed below the neutral surface of beam and at connecting part of beam and column is affected by various bond parameters. Resistance of deformed bars which embedded in concrete to the pullout force is divided 1) chemical adhesive force 2) frictional force 3) mechanical resistance of ribs to the concrete and these horizontal components of resistance is being bond strength. We selected the most common and typical variable which is concrete strength among various variables. So we used two kinds of concrete strength like as 25MPa(NSC) and 65MPa(HSC). Tension Test was performed to verify how bond behavior varied with two kinds of concrete strength. Concentration of bond stress was observed at load-end commonly in Tension Test of the initial load stage. At this stage stress distribution was almost coincident at each strength. As tension load added, this stress distribution had difference gradually and movement of pick point of bond stress to free-end and central section was observed. This tendency was observed at first and moving speed was more fast in NSC. At the preceeding result the reason of this phenomenon is considered to discretion of chemical adhesion and local failure of concrete around rebar in load-end direction. Especially, when concrete strength was increased 2.6 times in tension test, ultimate bond strength was increased 1.45 times. In most recent used building codes, bond strength is proportioned to sqare root of concrete compressive strength but comparison of normalized ultimate bond strength was considered that the higher concrete strength is, the lower safety factor of bond strength is in each strength if we use existing building codes. In Tension Test, in case of initial tensile force state, steel tensile stress of central cross section is not different greatly at each strength but tensile force increasing, that of central cross section in NSC was increased remarkably. Namely, tensile force which was shared in concrete in HSC was far greater than that of concrete in NSC at central section.
