  • In this paper, an analytical analysis for the study of vibratory behavior and wave propagation of functionally graded plates (FGM) is presented based on a high order shear deformation theory. The manufacture of these plates' defects can appear in the form of porosity. This latter can question and modify the global behavior of such plates. A new shape of the distribution of porosity according to the thickness of the plate was used. The field of displacement of this theory is present of indeterminate integral variables. The modulus of elasticity and the mass density of these plates are assumed to vary according to the thickness of the plate. Equations of motion are derived by the principle of minimization of energies. Analytical solutions of free vibration and wave propagation are obtained for FGM plates simply supported by integrating the analytic dispersion relation. Illustrative examples are given also to show the effects of variation of various parameters such as(porosity parameter, material graduation, thickness-length ratio, porosity distribution) on vibration and wave propagation of FGM plates.

  • The microstructures of sintered products of $Fe_2O_3$or $Fe_3O_4$-Oxide added cast iron powder was investigated. And the effects of particle size distribution was investigated too. As the result, the structures of sintered products did not related to the species of Fe-Oxide. Th porosity of sintered products was decreased in size and spherodized with increasing sintering temperature, decreasing Fe-Oxide quantity. Fe-Oxide itself did not hinder sintering of cast iron powder particularly, therefore sintering could be occurred without termination of reduction of it. And the sintered products of finer particle size distribution had finer and more spherodized porosity, and had minimized the deviation of size and shape of porosity.

  • A new simple solution for critical buckling of FG sandwich plates under axial and biaxial loads is presented using new modified power-law formulations. Both even and uneven distributions of porosity are taken into account in this study. Material properties of the sandwich plate faces are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a modified power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Equilibrium and stability equations of FG sandwich plate with various boundary conditions are derived using the higher-order shear deformation plate theory. The results reveal that the distribution shape of the porosity, the gradient index, loading type and functionally graded layers thickness have significant influence on the buckling response of functionally graded sandwich plates.

  • Critical thermal buckling of functionally graded porous (FGP) sandwich plates under various types of thermal loading is considered. It is assumed that the mechanical and thermal nonhomogeneous properties of FGP sandwich plate vary smoothly by distribution of power law across the thickness of sandwich plate. In this paper, porosity defects are modeled as stiffness reduction criteria and included in the rule of mixture. The thermal environments are considered as uniform, linear and nonlinear temperature rises. The critical buckling temperature response of FGM sandwich plates has been analyzed under various boundary conditions. By comparing several numerical examples with the reference solutions, the results indicate that the present analysis has good accuracy and rapid convergence. Further, the effects of various parameters like distribution shape of porosity, sandwich combinations, aspect ratio, thickness ratio, boundary conditions on critical buckling temperature of FGP sandwich plate have been studied in this paper.

  • In recent years, the focus on vibration analysis of multilayer smart structures has attracted considerable attention in many engineering applications. In this work, vibration analysis of a three-layer microporous beam with a core amplified by a composite material reinforced with graphene platelets and two piezoelectric thin films is discussed. It is assumed that piezoelectric layers with a thickness of 0.01 core are very thin and the properties of the matrix and reinforcement vary in the thickness directions. The governing equations of motion are obtained using an energy approach and the method of numerical differential quadrature to solve them. The results of this work are compared to other research and there is good agreement between them. The influences of the volumetric weight fraction of graphene wafers, different graphene platelets distributions, porosity distribution, mass scale parameters and thin ratio of graphene platelets take into account the natural dimensionless frequencies of the micro-beam. The results of this study show that the symmetric distribution of graphene platelets based on the symmetric porosity distribution has a great influence on the natural frequencies without basic dimension of the micro-beam, while the shape ratios of graphene platelets do not have a significant influence on natural frequency changes.

  • The Hertzian indentation contact damage behavior of porous alumina with controlled pore shape was investigated by experiments. Porous alumina ceramics containing well-defined pore shape, size and distribution were prepared by incorporation of fugitive spherical starch. Porous alumina with isolated pore structure was prepared with porosity range up to 30%. The indentation stress-strain curves of porous alumina were constructed. Elastic modulus and yield stress can be obtained from the stress-strain relationship. Impulse excitation method for the measurement of elastic modulus was also conducted as well as Hertzian indentation and was confirmed as a useful tool to evaluate the elasticity of highly porous ceramics. Elastic modulus of the inter-connected pore structure is more sensitive to porosity than that of the isolated pore structure. When the specimen had isolated pore structure, higher yield point was obtained than it had inter-connected pore structure. This study proposed that the elastic modiulus of porous ceramics is strongly related to not only porosity, but also the structure of pore.

  • In this paper, a size-dependent dynamic investigation of a porous metal foams microbeamsis presented. The novelty of this study is to use a metal foam microbeam that contain porosities based on the refined high order shear deformation beam model, with sinusoidal shear strain function, and the modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) for the first time. The Lagrange's principle combined with differential quadrature hierarchicalfinite element method (DQHFEM) are used to obtain the porous microbeam governing equations. The solutions are presented for the natural frequencies of the porous and homogeneoustype microbeam. The obtained results are validated with the analytical methods found in the literature, in order to confirm the accuracy of the presented resolution method. The influences of the shape of porosity distribution, slenderness ratio, microbeam thickness, and porosity coefficient on the free vibration of the porous microbeams are explored in detail. The results of this paper can be used in various design formetallic foammicro-structuresin engineering.

  • In this paper, buckling and free vibration of imperfect, functionally graded beams, including porosities, are investigated, using a higher order shear strain theory. Due to defects during the manufacturing process, micro porosities may appear in the material, hence the appearance of this imperfection in the structure. The material properties of the beams are assumed to vary regularly, with power and sigmoid law, in the direction of thickness. A novel porosity distribution affecting the functionally graded volume fraction is presented. For the compact formulation used for cementite-based materials and already used in P-FGM, we have adapted it for the distribution of S-FGM. The equations of motion in the FG beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The boundary conditions for beam FG are assumed to be simply supported. Navier's solution is used to obtain the closed form solutions of the FG beam. The numerical results of this work are compared with those of other published research to verify accuracy and reliability. The comparisons of different shear shape functions, the influence of porosity, thickness and inhomogeneity parameters on buckling and free vibration of the FG beam are all discussed. It is established that the present work is more precise than certain theories developed previously.

  • The viscosity of foam metal is necessary to get the pores, but it is difficult to manufacture net-shape foam, because the fluidity decreases by increasing viscosity. In this study, the A356 alloy which has good fluidity and less defect was selected and fabricated to foam metal. To understand about effect of thickening agent on foaming and mechanical properties, quantity of thickening agent was changed. The pore size, porosity and distribution of foam metal were measured by i-solution program. And compression test were performed by UTM. In case of 3.0wt% Ca in thickening agent, it is found that most of foam consist of homogeneous shape, and the growth height had the highest value of 204 mm in the all fabricated foams. The porosity was 93% and compressive strength was 3.1 MPa. In the microstructure, the $Al_2Si_2Ca$ intermetallic compound and Ti were observed. The vickers hardness value rose with increasing viscosity value.
