  • It has long been of controversy what the meanings of probability is. And a century has past after the mathematical probability has been at the center of the school curriculum of it. Recently statistical meaning of probability becomes important for various reasons. However the simple modification of its definition is not enough. The computational reasoning of the probability and its practical application needs didactical changes and new instructional transformations along with the modification of it. Most of the current text books introduce probability as a limit of the relative frequencies, a statistical probability. But when the probability computation of the union of two events, or of the simultaneous events is faced on, they use mathematical probability for explanation and practices. Accordingly there is a gap for students in understanding those. Probability is an intuitive concept as far as it belongs to the domain of the experiential frequency. And frequency distribution must be the instructional bases for the (statistical) probability novices. This is what we mean by the probability in accordance with the distribution concepts. First of all, in order to explain the probability of the complementary event we should explain the empirical relative frequency of it first. These are the case for the union of two events and for the simultaneous events. Moreover we need to provide a logic of probabilistic guesses, inferences and decision, which we introduce with the name “the likelihood principle”, the most famous statistical principle. We emphasized this be done through the problems of practical decision making.

  • Purpose: This study aims to measure whether the business performance of Padang restaurants in North Jakarta is primarily affected by service distribution strategy and other factors, specifically the local-based organizational culture and entrepreneurial orientation. Research design, data and methodology: This quantitative research has used Structural Model-Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) with SMART PLS 3.0 as the analytical tool. The study's sample focus is the owner or person in charge of the Padang restaurant business in North Jakarta. Data has been collected using a questionnaire instrument with a Likert scale scale ('1-strongly disagree' to '5-strongly agree'). A total of 86 samples with a random technique were obtained from three areas in North Jakarta: Kelapa Gading, Pademangan, and Penjaringan. Results: Interestingly, this research finds that service distribution strategy does not affect business performance, either directly or indirectly. Business performance in this study is affected by entrepreneurial orientation. In additional results, the local organizational culture significantly affects the entrepreneurial orientation, but does not affect the business performance in terms of management process. Conclusions: This study provides practical implications for restaurant businesses regarding the use of local cultural concepts to consider strategies for survival in today's challenging times while continuing operations during limitations.

  • One of the problems of derivatie spectrophotometry, the decrease of signal-to-noise ratio by derivative operations, was solved by three concepts of digital filtering, ensemble averaging, least squares polynomial smoothing and Fourier smoothing. The suthors made several compouter programs written in APPLE SOFT BASIC language for the actual applications of the concepts of these digital filters on UV spectrophotometer system. As a result, ensemble averaging could not be used as a routine operation for the spectrophotometer used. The maximum S/N ratio enhancement factors achieved by least squares polynomial smoothing were 6.17 and 7.47 for the spectra of Gaussian and Lorentzian distribution models, and by Fourier smoothing 16.42 and 11.78 for the spectra of two models, respectively.

  • Spatial distribution of groundwater contaminant concentration has special characteristics such as approximate symmetric profile, for example, in the transversal direction to groundwater flow direction, a certain ratio in directional propagation distances, etc. To obtain a geophysically appropriate semivariogram which is a key factor in estimation of groundwater contaminant concentration at desired locations, these special characteristics should be considered. Specifically, the concepts of symmetry and ratio are considered in this paper. By applying these two concepts, significant improvement of semivariograms, estimation variances, and final estimation results compared with the ones by conventional approaches which usually do not account for symmetry and ratio are shown using field experimental data.

  • The purpose of this study is twofold. First, this paper argues that a theoretical lens that can connect three crucial concepts is often missing when it comes to assessing the success or failure of corporate reputation in terms of corporate environmental responsibility. These three concepts include the legitimacy of environmental disclosure information, stakeholder interest in corporate environmental responsibility, and the relationship between corporate environmental practices and disclosure. The second purpose is to investigate the roles of transparency and systemic thinking in corporate environmental responsibility and disclosure that could help to connect the information from environmental disclosure to internal information in firms, thereby minimizing conflicting accountabilities and increasing stakeholder engagement in environmental disclosure. Rather than conducting an empirical study, the author has followed a theoretical examination of legitimacy, stakeholder, and stewardship theories. This study, thus, suggests the retention of many theories (e.g. legitimacy, stakeholder, and stewardship) to study and explain the relationship of corporate environmental practices, environmental disclosure, and corporate reputation.

  • This study aims is to explore of the theoretical concepts of regional imbalances and spatial inequality, analysis of spatial distribution of economic growth and identifying of "growth poles" for sustainable development in the regions of Kazakhstan. Based on the theoretical views, we conclude that the key direction of regional policy is the search and development of "growth poles", which will distribute their potential equally to backward regions. The authors propose the methodological tools for presenting a standard form of evaluation of spatial distribution and inequality of the regions of Kazakhstan. This study confirms the importance of using of proposed methods and its application for objectively and realistically defines "growth poles" for sustainable development. Further, the obtained results showed the distribution of Kazakhstan's regions by economic growth and specialization with using modified index of KDI. According to the results of this theoretical and empirical study proved that distribution of the regions of Kazakhstan and results of KDI indexes shows that the spatial differentiation of economic development, but its level and dynamics are different in different respects. In addition, according to the conducted survey, we conclude that one of the most important tasks is sustainable growth based on "growth poles" for sustainable development.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive implications by comparing the spatial distribution of each service facility per unit population(1,000 people) with population decline areas. For this purpose, major concepts such as living infrastructure services, Spatial Distribution of Rural Living Service Facilities, areas of declining population, and regional extinction were reviewed and trends in prior research. Based on the literature review, 'Spatial Distribution of Rural Living Service Facilities' analysis criteria were set, and it was derived by 'the number of facilities per 1,000 population by township' using population data and rural space data. And the trend of each service sector was identified and implications were derived with 89 cities and counties in 'depopulation areas' suggested by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security. The derived implications are as follows. In the medical, leisure, and sports infrastructure sectors, 'rural areas with few service facilities per unit population' and 'depopulated areas' tended to coincide. In addition, the distribution characteristics of rural and urban areas differed by sector, which is judged to depend on the inclusion of rural facilities and population density.

  • Over the last few years, there has been a growing interest in quantitative representation of the weld pools in order to relate the processing conditions to the driving forces of the weldment produced and to use this information for the optimization of the welding process. A theoretical model offers a powerful alternative to check the physical concepts of the welding process and the effects of driving forces. To solve this problem, a 2-D thermo-fluid model were eve loped for determining temperature and velocity distribution for the GMA welding process.

  • Time pasages could deteriorate the flow ability and hold the flow in the water distribution facilities because of their erosion and breakdown. It is necessary that the study to determine the optimal change time and the improvement plan for the continuous management using optimization methods or decision support systems. But, the present study tendency only aware the changes of hydraulic characteristics without industrial management plans. This study shows the pipe replacement program in these two concepts and the elementary process to apply it to Daejeon city.
