  • NARO Space Center is being developed as a national project for the Korea Space Development Program. Among the major missions of the Space Center, the Range Control System is the focal point for all command and control operation of the Space Center.   • In this paper, RSF+RPP(Random Switching Frequency Ran-domized Pulse Position) PWM for three-phase voltage-controlled inverter is proposed. The LLPWM(Lead-Lag PWM) technique is that three switching pulses are located randomly back and forth in each switching interval But with the restriction of random distribution, the harmonic spectrum cannot be dispersedly and continuously distributed.   • This paper describes the design of a hardware system for ECG feature extraction based on pipeline processor consisting of three computers. ECG data is acquisited by 12 bit A/D converter with hardware QRS triggred detector. Four diagnostic parameters-heart, axis, and ST axis, and ST segment are used for the classification and the diagnosis of arrhythmia. The functions of the main CPU were distributed and processed with three microcomputers. Therefore the effective data process and the real time process using microcomputer can be obtained. The interconnection structure consisting of two common memory units is designed to decrease the delay time caused by data transfer between processors and designed by which the delay time can be taken 1% of one clock period.

  • In this work, we developed a real-time versatile advanced control and supervisory software for a personal computer control. This software, basically, has background and foreground tasks which are performed in parallel at real time. First, background tasks are composed of controls of various kinds, reports and input-ouput of signals etc, which are performed every sampling time. Second, foreground tasks are observation of operation conditions, data search, regulation of controllers and graphical design and display of processes, which are performed by users request. Additionally, this software has the functions of transporting data and composing distributed control systems, and all background tasks are composed of combination of unit function blocks.

  • The multi-layer neural network possesses the desirable characteristics of parallel distributed processing and learning capacity, by which the uncertain variation of the parameters in the dynamically complex system can be handled adoptively. However the error back propagation algorithm that has been utilized popularly in the learning procedure of the mulfi-Jayer neural network has the significant limitations in the real application because of its slow convergence speed. In this paper, an approach to improve the convergence speed is proposed using the fuzzy logic that can effectively handle the uncertain and fuzzy informations by linguistic level. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by computer simulation of PUMA 560 robot manipulator.

  • A suboptimal output feedback controller is designed and applied to a flexible rotor bearing system in order to control the unstable or lilghtly damped vibrations. The reduced order model is the truncated modal equation of the distributed parameter system obtained through the singular perturbation. The instability problem arising from the spillover effects caused by the uncontrolled high frequency modes is prevented through the constrained optimization by incorporating the spillover term into the performance index. The efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated experimentally with a flexible rotor by using a magnetic bearing.

  • The present paper studies a robot manipulator's contact tasks on the uncertain flexible objects. The flexible object's distributed parameter model is approximated into a lumped "position state-varying" model. By using the well-known nonlinear feedback compensation, the robot's control space is decomposed into the position control subspace and the object's torque control subspace. The optimal state feedback is designed for the position loop, and the robot's contact force is controlled through controlling the resultant torque on the object using model-reference simple adaptive control. Experiments of a PUMA robot interacting with an aluminum plate show the effectiveness of this control approach. approach.

  • In this paper, we discuss the force control of flexible manipulators. Since the force control of flexible manipulators with planar one or two links using the distributed-parameter modeling has been the subject of a considerable number of publications until now, real time computations of the force control schemes are possible. But, application of those control schemes to multi-link spatial manipulators is fairly complicated. In this paper, we apply a concise hybrid position/force control scheme for a flexible manipulators. We use a lumped-parameter modeling for the flexible manipulators. The Hamilton's principle is applied to derive the equations of motion for the system and then, state-space model is obtained by the Lagrange's method. Finally, comparison of simulation results with experimental results is given to show the performance of our method.

  • A prototype integrated system and its theories for distributed SISO control structure synthesis of complete chemical plants is developed. The scope of this work includes control structure synthesis not only of simple units with unspecified control loops but also of the complex process at preliminary and basic design stage. Hierarchical approach and dual-decomposition strategy (that is multi-layer decomposition and multi-echelon decomposition) is applied to this system. Because automatic control structure synthesis of complex plants is a problem defined as a series of knowledge-intensive tasks within multiple spaces, the established methodology is complemented by not only techniques from knowledge-based expert systems but also shortcut and rigorous control theories. This system is used for education of control designers, process engineers, operators and students as well as for operability studying, in-line and on-line process control structure synthesis.

  • This paper presents the development of a knowledge-based control system operating via the Internet. With the synergy provided by the Internet, the central expert controller with its knowledge-base has the potential to serve a multitude of front-end clients located anywhere in the world provided they have Internet access. In this way, the operational span of the knowledge-based control system can be expanded to virtually anyplace within the reach of the Internet. This configuration has positive implications in improving the efficiency of distributed operations, thereby enabling plantwide optimization and costs savings. Datasocket technology is adopted to facilitate a more efficient data exchange between the knowledge-based central server and the front-end clients. A specific application in the remote monitoring and fault diagnosis of machines using the proposed control configuration is presented in the paper.
