  • Recently, as one of low complexity video encoding methods, DVC (Distributed Video Coding) scheme has been actively studied. Most of DVC schemes exploit feedback channel to achieve better coding performances, however, this causes these schemes to have high decoding delay. In order to overcome these, this paper proposes a new fast DVC decoding method using parity-bit request model, which can be obtained by using bit-error rate, sent by encoder with motion vector, which is transmitted through feedback channel by decoder after generating side information. Through several simulations, it is shown that the proposed method improves greatly the decoding speed, compared to the conventional schemes.

  • In the distributed video coding (DVC) system, the difference between the side information and the original Wyner-Ziv frame is corrected using channel codes and the additional parity bits are requested through feedback channel if the error is not corrected. The efficient bit rate control is important to use the DVC system in the band-limited channel, such as mobile communication environments. In this paper, the constant bit rate control method in the encoder of the DVC system is proposed. The coding performance as well as the bit rate is efficiently controlled by the proposed method.

  • A neat prefect stable random access protocol for a broadcast channel, the distributed queuing random access protocol(DQRAP)is presented and evaluated. The DQRAP prootcol utilizes minisolts to provide termaty chan-nel feedback and two distributed queues to:9a) resolve contention and (b) to schedute the transmission of messages.Three minislots are sufficient to resolve collisions faster than the tranmission times of all inboled mecages.Three minislots are suffcient to resolve collisions faster than the tranmission times of all inbolved arrivals when ternary minislot feedback is used.Modelingand simulation indicate that the DQRAP protocol, using as few as three minislits, achives a performance level which approaches that of hypothetical perfect cheduling protocol,ie,the M/D/I system, with respect to propagation delay, thus offers the potential of improved performance over current protocols in satellite, metropolitan and packet radio networks.

  • Distributed optical feedback by gain coupling in V-groove quantum-wire lasers is investigated using InGaAs/AlGaAs active materials grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). In order to avoid grating overgrowth during the fabrication of DFB structures, a newly developed constant MOCVD growth method is employed. Gain anisotropy in emission spectra near Bragg wavelength, resulting from optical feedback along the DFB direction, is clearly observed at room temperature.

  • A rate equation model describing the ultrashort pulse formation is presented. The temporal and energy behavior of the distributed feedback dye laser predicted by the model has been compared the earlier papers on DFDL's. The observed good agreement allows application of the theoretical model for picosecond laser.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller design method for Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC)-type Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model based fuzzy dynamic system with H$\infty$ performance and additional constraints on the closed pole placement. Design condition for these controller is obtained in terms of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The proposed fuzzy controller satisfies the disturbance rejection performance and the desired transient response. The design method is verified by this method for an inverted pendulum with a cart using the proposed method.

  • Based on single-mode rate equations, we present an improved equivalent-circuit model for distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers that accounts for the effects of parasitic parameters and nonradiative recombination. This equivalent-circuit model is composed of a parasitic circuit, an electrical circuit, an optical circuit, and a phase circuit, modeling the circuit equations transformed from the rate equations. The validity of the proposed circuit model is verified by comparing simulation results to measured results. The results show that the slope efficiency and threshold current of the model are 0.22 W/A and 13 mA respectively. It is also shown that increasing bias current results in the increase of the relaxation-oscillation frequency. Moreover, we show that the larger the bias current, the lower the frequency chirp, increasing the possibility of extending the transmission distance of an optical-fiber communication system. The results indicate that the proposed circuit model can accurately predict a DFB laser's static and dynamic characteristics.

  • The self-biasing circuit through a feedback resistor is applied to a gallium nitride (GaN) distributed power amplifier (PA) monolithic microwave circuit (MMIC). The self-biasing circuit is a useful scheme for biasing depletion-mode compound semiconductor devices with a negative gate bias voltage, and is widely used for common source amplifiers. However, the self-biasing circuit is rarely used for PAs, because the large DC power dissipation of the feedback resistor results in the degradation of output power and power efficiency. In this study, the feasibility of applying a self-biasing circuit through a feedback resistor to a GaN PA MMIC is examined by using the high operation voltage of GaN high-electron mobility transistors. The measured results of the proposed GaN PA are the average output power of 41.1 dBm and the average power added efficiency of 12.2% over the 6-16 GHz band.

  • In the distributed multimedia document system, media objects distributed over a computer network are retrieved from their sources and presented to users according to specifed temporal relations. For effective presentation, synchronization have to he supported. Furthermore, presentation in distributed environments is influenced by network band with and delay, so they have to be considered for synchronization. This paper propose a distributed multimedia presentation model that supports synchronization effectively. In this model, when media objects are transfered from servers to a client, network situation and resources are monitored and thus a feedback message for change of them is sent to sever. Then, the sever adjusts the data sending rate to control synchronization.

  • A singular pertubation theory is applied to obtain an approximate solution for suboptimal control of nuclear reactors with spatially distributed parameters. The inverse of the neutron velocity is regarded as a small perturbing parameter, and the model, adopted for simplicity, is a cylindrically symmetrical reactor whose dynamics are described by the one group diffusion equation with one delayed neutron group. The Helmholtz mode expansion is used for the application of the optimal theory for lumped parameter systems to the spatially distributed parameter systems. An asymptotic expansion of the feedback gain matrix is obtained with construction of the boundary layer correction up to the first order.
