생물학적 하수처리시스템에 적용된 Proportional, Integral 및 P-I 조절 시스템에 대한 비교 (Comparison of Proportional, Integral, and P-I Control Systems in Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants)

  • The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of three sets of traditional control methods (proportional, integral, and proportional - integral controls) through lab-scale biological reactor experiments. An increase in proportional gain ($K_c$) resulted in reduced dissolved oxygen (DO) offset under proportional control. An increase in integral time ($T_i$) resulted in a slower response in DO concentration with less oscillation, but took longer to get to the set point. P-I control showed more stable and efficient control of DO and airflow rates compared to either proportional control or integral control. Developed P-I control system was successfully applied to lab-scale Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) for treating industrial wastewater with high organic strength.

  • One of the most efficient techniques improving the heat transfer performance of a diesel electric generation is a corrosion control in jacket cooling water system. The environmental parameters most affecting corrosion are dissolved salt concentration, temperature, and pH of cooling water. No corrosion occurs in carbon steel probe at pH 11 in normal operating condition of diesel electric generation cooling water. pH control agent in this study is trisodium phosphate. pH control appears to be the most convenient way to enhance the thermal performance of a diesel electric generation.

SRF측정에 의한 하수슬러지의 탈수 개선을 위한 오존 효과 (The Effect of Ozone of the Improvement of Dehydration in Treatment of Sewage Sludge Measuring SRF)

  • This paper has concentrated on estimating the improvement of sludge dewaterability for the application of ozone in sewage treatment plant sludge. The experiment for the study was conducted by batch reactor, contacting ozone (5.0 g O$_3$/hr/l) to waste sludge and measured the Specific Resistance to Filtrate (SRF) varying pH, pressure and reaction time of ozone. And then checked the dissolved solids concentration of flitrate. The results of experiment were as follows: 1. When the total solids concentration of excess sludge was 9, 000 mg/l, the optimum injection rate of ozone was 5.0 g O$_3$/hr/l, and then pressure was 50 cm Hg for the measuring SRF. 2. In the range of pH 3~5, the effect of ozone injection was excellent, but it was unsatisfactory in the range of pH 9~11. Therefore, the ozone injection by acidifying pH level was effective in improving the dewaterability of sludge. 3. It was estimated that the dissolved solids concentration of flitrate was increased in proportion to the injection rate of ozone.

C:N:P stoichiometry of particulate and dissolved organic matter in river waters and changes during decomposition

  • Background: Stoichiometry plays an important role in understanding nutrient composition and cycling processes in aquatic ecosystems. Previous studies have considered C:N:P ratios constant for both DOM (dissolved organic matter) and POM (particulate organic matter). In this study, water samples were collected in the six major rivers in Korea and were incubated for 20 days. C:N:P ratios were determined during the time course of the incubations. This allowed us to examine the changes in N and P contents of organic matter during decomposition. Results: POM and DOM showed significant differences in N and P content and the elemental ratios changed during the course of decomposition; DOM showed higher C:N and C:P ratios than POM, and the C:N and C:P ratios increased during decomposition, indicating the preferential mineralization of P over N and N over C. Conclusions: The N and P contents of organic matter in aquatic ecosystem are far from constant and vary significantly during decomposition. More detailed information on the changes in C:N:P ratios will provide improved understanding of decomposition processes and improved modeling of aquatic ecosystems.

토끼에서 FSH제의 Single Injection에 따른 과배란유기 효과 (Superovulation in Rabbits with a Single Injection of FSH Dissolved in Polyvinylpyrrolidone)

  • A series of experiments were designed to determine the feasibility of single dose of FSH as an effective superovulation method in rabbits. The superovulation treatments examined comparatively were as follows: 1) a single injection of 100 IU PMSG, 2) Multiple injections of 1 IU Super-OV of 2X daily for 3 days, 3) Multiple injections of 6.6 rng Folltropin-V 2X daily for 3 days, 4) Multiple injections of 13.3 rng Folltropn-V l$\times$ daily for 3 days, 5) Single injection of 40 mg Folltropin-V solved in 10% PVP, and 6) Single injection of 40 mg Folltropin-V dissolved in 25% PVP. The results obtained were as follows: The nurnher of ovulation points in the single injection of 40 mg Folltropin-V dissolved in 25% PVP and multiple injections of 6.6 mg Folltropin-V 2X daily for 3 days was averaged 44.6 and 39.2, respectively, which were significantly (P<0.05) more than in a single dose of PMSG or multiple doses of Super-OV. The number of total ova recovered in the single injection of 40 mg Folltropin-V dissolved in 25% PVP and multiple injections of 6.6 mg Folltropin-V 2X daily for 3 days was averaged 30.4 and 25.9, respectively, which were significantly (P<0.05) more than in the single dose of PMSG or multiple doses of Super-OV. A similar result was obtained for the number of fertilized ova recovered from the above six treatments. From the above results it was concluded that a single injection of 40 mg Folltropin-V dissolved in 25% PVP could be an effective and simple method for superovulation in rabbits.

분말활성탄 응집침전 공정을 이용한 부영양화 호소수의 용존 유기물 및 인의 제거 연구 (A Study on Removal of Dissolved Organic Matter and Phosphorus in Eutrophic Lake by Coagulation Process Using Powdered Activated Carbon)

  • 본 연구는 부영양화 호소의 개선을 위하여 분말활성탄 공정을 적용하고 호소수 내의 용존 유기물과 인의 제거특성을 파악하고자 수행되었다. 용존 유기물의 제거특성은 부유물질의 제거특성과 다르며 응집제 주입량과 pH에 영향을 받음을 확인하였다. 용존 유기물은 분말활성탄에 의해 흡착으로 제거되며 응집과정에서 용존 유기물의 제거효율을 증가시킬 수 있었다. 응집침전공정의 인 제거 과정과 같은 화학침전과정에서 형성되는 용존성 착화합물과 콜로이드성 물질은 인의 제거효율을 저하시키는 요인이다. 분말활성탄의 주입으로 콜로이드성 물질과 용존성 착화합물을 흡착함으로써 인의 제거효율을 증가시킬 수 있었다. 또한 분말활성탄은 응집과정의 floc의 밀도를 증가시켜 침전속도를 높이고 고액분리 효율을 높일 수 있었다.

2009년 추계와 동계 가막만 북부해역에서 alkaline phosphatase 활성과 phosphatase 가수 분해성 인의 분포 특성 (Distribution Characteristics of Alkaline Phosphatase Activity and Phosphatase Hydrolyzable Phosphorus in Northern Gamak Bay in Autumn and Winter, 2009)

  • We investigated variations in alkaline phosphatase (APase) activity and alkaline phosphatase hydrolyzable phosphorus (APHP) in northern Gamak Bay from September to December 2009. Dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) decreased gradually, and the DIN/DIP ratio was higher than the Redfield ratio (16) based on molecular concentrations during most of the observation period. The total APase (T-APase) activity increased with decreasing DIP concentration; i.e., the Relationship between T-APase and DIP showed a high negative correlation (r=-0.80, P<0.001), with APase activity being a good indicator of DIP limiting the Redfield ratio. The T-APase was positively correlated with the concentration of chlorophyll a (r=0.73, P<0.001). This suggests that a major portion of APase activity in northen Gamak Bay seawater is attributed to phytoplankton. The proportion of APHP among dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) was low in September and high in November. Thus, APase-producing phytoplankton may be able to grow by utilizing APHP as a phosphorus source in autumn when DIP is limiting. Thus, APase activity and the use of DOP by phytoplankton may play an important role in the growth of phytoplankton under DIP limiting conditions such as those of northern Gamak Bay.

제주도 해저 지하수 중 용존유기물질 분포 특성 (Distributions of Dissolved Organic Matter in Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) in Jeju Island)

  • We observed the concentrations of Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) and Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) in coastal seawater and groundwater around a volcanic island, Jeju, Korea. The sampling of surface seawater and coastal groundwater was conducted in Woljeongri, Pyoseon, and Kwakgi beaches, in three sampling campaigns (June, July, and October 2016). The concentrations of DOC in groundwater were relatively higher in June and October than in July. Salinity and DOC concentrations in the coastal groundwater of Woljeongri and Pyoseon beaches did not show a marked relationship, whereas those in Kwakgi beach showed a good positive correlation (July: $R^2=0.64$, P < 0.01; October: $R^2=0.95$, P < 0.01). In addition, the concentrations of CDOM (C and M peaks) in the groundwater of Woljeongri and Pyoseon beaches, where saline groundwater discharge dominates, were relatively higher than those of Kwakgi beach, where fresh groundwater discharge dominates. The relatively higher DOC concentrations in the coastal groundwater of Woljeongri and Pyoseon, with higher CDOM concentrations, seem to be mainly from anthropogenic sources such as local pollution sources (i.e., aquaculture wastewater or domestic sewage). In order to understand the behavior of DOC in the coastal groundwater of a volcanic island, extensive studies are necessary in the future over a larger-area and greater time-scales using various isotopic tracers.

오염토양처리를 위한 혼합 Fenton 공정에서 용존 철이온이 오염산화처리에 미치는 역할에 관한 연구 (A Role of Dissolved Iron ion in Combined Fenton Reaction for Treatment of TNT Contaminated Soil)

  • 일반적으로 Fenton 반응 공정을 실제 오염토양에 적용하기에는 다소 무리가 있다. 그 이유로 대표적인 Fenton 반응공정인 고전적인 Fenton 반응은 낮은 pH에서 우수한 처리효율을 보이고 있기 때문이다. 또한, 철이온의 투입을 대신하여 철광석을 이용하는 Fenton-like 반응도 철광석 표면에서 hydroxyl radical을 생성하나 높은 pH에서는 다량의 수산화물과의 경쟁반응으로 인하여 그 활성이 상당히 감소되어진다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 중성영역의 pH에서 철이온-chelating agent의 복합체를 촉매로 사용하는 modified Fenton 반응이 제시 되어지고 있다. 이 처리방식의 경우에는 다량의 철이온의 투입이 요구되어진다. 따라서, 본 실험에서는 Fenton-like 반응과 modified Fenton 반응의 효율적인 접목으로 중성영역에서의 chelating agent의 투입으로 철광석으로부터 철이온을 용출하여 복합체를 형성함으로 혼합 Fenton 공정에서 부가적인 촉매로 사용되어짐으로 오염물 처리효율을 크게 향상시킨 기법 개발을 진행하였다. 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene은 본 실험에서 오염원으로 사용하였으며, chelating agent에 의해 용출된 철이온이 약 0.1 mM 이상일 경우 Fenton-like 반응에 비하여 상당히 좋은 제거효율을 보였다. 혼합 Fenton 공정의 최대제거효율은 magnetite-NTA 시스템으로써 약 76%의 제거효율과 magnetite-EDTA의 경우 약 56%로서 이는 Fenton-like 반응에 비하여 약 40-60% 정도의 제거효율이 향상된 결과이다.

TiO2 광측매를 이용한 Cu(II)-EDTA의 산화에서 용존산소와 Cu(II)와 EDTA 초기 당량의 영향 (The effect of dissolved oxygen and initial complextation of Cu(II) and EDTA on photooxidation of Cu(II)-EDTA by TiO2)

  • The effects of initial concentration of dissolved oxygen content, Cu(II) and EDTA in an aqueous Cu(II)-EDTA solution on $TiO_2$ photo-oxidation of EDTA were investigated using $TiO_2$ (Degussa P-25) and UV irradiation at $20{\circ}C$. In the presence of dissolved oxygen and/or Cu(II) the photo-oxidation rates of EDTA were enhanced. The rates linearly increased in the range of initial Cu(II) concentration below 1.79 mM, while abode this concentration those were kept constant. The trend or the EDTA photo-oxidation rates appeared to be akin to the Langmuir-Hinshelwood equation farm and the k values calculated were 0.05 mM/min for the free-EDTA system, and 0.17 mM/min far the Cu(II)-EDTA system. These meant the aqueous EDTA decomposition was enhanced due to weakening of the intra-molecular bond strength of EDTA by complexation with Cu(II) added. It was concluded the decomposition of aqueous EDTA by $TiO_2$ photo-oxidation was maximum in the presence of dissolved oxygen supplied by air purging and of Cu(II) with its concentration for 1:1 Cu(II)-EDTA complexation ratio.
