This study is done in order to find the solutions that we are facing on social and ecological crisis around the world. The basic survey was done on college students who will mostly become city residents in the future. Students collect information about the amount of the waste and the way of disposition for a week. The analysis how they produce and dispose waste will show what influence their behavioral decisions. The findings are first, students are very conscious of the importance of environmental conservation. But they value little and they don't have proper knowledge. Second, sex was the decisive factor, women tend to behave eco-friendly. But the more they are conscious about environment, the less they behave eco-friendly. The more they spend allowances, the less they are conscious of environment. Third, they recycle waste at home during the weekend, but not during weekdays at school because there is no recycling bin or they are not economically responsible.
The purpose of this study is to closely examine the changes of food and drink waste amounts, and student's environmental literacy. By using creative methods, discretional activity classes, and programs to dispose of food and drink waste from students schoolmeals, and at the same time conduct and teach environmental education classes. To achieve this, students were given ten class lessons in creative discretional activities. Students were given flowerpots containing earthworms and were instructed to raise them, using food and drink waste from school meals. Four classes who were participating in project were examined for changes from March to July 2005. As a result the environmental education classes through creative discretional activities didn't have any significant influence on the students environmental literacy. However it did make a difference to the student's in-terms of their ecological knowledge. The project using earthworms to dispose of food and waste drink showed a decrease of 15% of the amount of waste food and drink from school meals. Moreover student's environmental literacy had been significantly influenced about environmental sensibility, value and causes. Through this study I found that the project using earthworms to dispose of waste food and drink, and creative discretional activities as a lesson decreased the amount of food and drink waste at the school, and the changes to students concerns and understanding about environmental sensibility, value and the various causes of waste food and drink.
There will be a big problem in disposing of waste tie coming from the cars. Because many of these have been thrown away to the field and environmentally polluted. New, We need to find out how to dispose or recycle these waste material. It is thought that recycling this material especially mixing with concrete will be a good idea. This study is focused how each material do its behavior due to the size of waste type particle and its amount into concrete material. 0.4mm-10mm range of particle has been applied to the material : Also, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0% range of tyre particle proportion has been applied to make cylinder molds. The concrete mold with waste-tyre particle has vibration-absorbing ability. It is found that 0.4 -0.6mm particle mixing concrete has been more solid organized. And this waste tyre material could be applied to the general concrete, it is found.
Food waste left by patients in hospitals is an important indicator of the nutritional adequacy of the patients' diet and of their satisfaction with food. Food wasted by patients or staff in hospitals is one of the most serious problem in hospital foodservice systems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the disposal practices of food waste in hospital foodservices for providing basic information for an efficient solid waste management. This approach was achieved using a variety of qualitative and quantitative information including general food waste practices and measurement of food waste left by patients and staff in 20 hospital foodservices. The average food wasted by patients and staff per day was 402.20kg and 206.98kg respectively, being total food waste of 578.08kg per day. The mean plate waste of a staff was 115.95g, which was much lower than that of a patient (221.03g). As means of food waste treatment, most hospitals(60%) are using animal feed, followed by means of collection by contracters(15%) and disposal of waste collection after condensing. An average monthly cost for disposing food waste was 915,000 won and average 138.58 minutes were spent to dispose food waste in hospital foodservices.

This study investigates the possibility of applying food waste leachate to a municipal solid waste incinerator in order to effectively dispose of the material and to reduce the environmental impact. The spray positions and the quantity of the food waste leachate in municipal solid waste incinerator were adjusted to examine the stability of the process and the environmental effect. The rear of the first combustion chamber was found to be the desirable location for an environmental perspective in this study. At a food waste leachate injection rate of $2m^3/h$, the concentration of the emitted NOx decreased from 130 ppm to 40 ppm. The consumption of ammonia water was reduced by about 36% after adding the food waste leachate. The inclusion of the food waste leachate to the municipal incinerator also increased the amount of steam that was produced. The results of this research indicated that a positive outcome can be expected in terms of diversifying the treatment options for food waste leachate. The results also provide guidance for institutional framework to manage the incineration of the food waste leachate.
Radioactive organic wastes containing acetone, alcohol, and particularly tributyl phosphate (TBP)/dodecane contaminated with uranium are extracted from the PUREX process and the decontamination of related equipment. An evaporation method that utilizes existing DU oxidation apparatuses and ventilation systems and a typical muffle furnace installed with an aspirating system are adopted. A separation method using phosphoric acid especially for the TBP/dodecane waste is also studied and evaluated. The results show that a simple evaporation process is utilizable for wastes containing acetone or alcohol with a lower boiling point. A modified muffle furnace is more appropriate to dispose directly of organic wastes having a higher boiling point, such as TBP/dodecane, without generating a condensed waste solution. It is recommended that, when the uranium concentration of TBP/dodecane waste is much higher than stipulated levels, separation technology should be applied to remove uranium from the mixture. Each type of solvent after separation can then be considered disposable below the regulatory limit in the modified furnace discussed in this study.
As Waste-concretes generated in construction field are increasing, it is becoming difficult and expensive to dispose them. For environmental reasons, many attempts have been made to find ways of reusing these materials. However, very little waste-concrete is currently recycled or reused anywhere on the world. Recycled concrete is mainly used as nonstabilized base of sub-base in highway construction. In this study, in order to promote the reuse of the waste-concretes, no-fines concrete blocks using recycled concrete aggregates were produced and their properties are evaluated. From the test results about strengths, pemeability, and durability, it is known that to use recycled aggregates for construction goods is promising and economical.
Disposable diaper has been used in order to handle urine and feces conveniently. At present the amount of disposable diaper waste increases gradually. Incineration and landfill have been the only ways to dispose of disposable diapers. However, if they are disposed by landfill, decomposition will take more than one hundred years. In addition, another way of dispose incineration has caused air pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to study recycling process for disposable diaper since plastic and wood fibers of diaper are useful materials to recycle. In this study, pulping condition of disposable diaper waste was studied in order to effectively separate the components. Recovery rates of plastic and fibers were analyzed under different pulping conditions. It was found that optimum pulping consistency was 5%, time was 60 minutes, temperature was $50^{\circ}C$, and cut size is $21cm{\times}21cm$. The recovery rate of plastic and fibers can be achieved above 70% under the optimum pulping condition.
The amount of the high level radioactive wastes in Korea will be increased up to 14,297 MTU about 2010 year. Most of countries adopt the concept of deep burial repository in high level radioactive waste disposal. Because the high level radioactive wastes are very toxic in biosphere and to human, the data verifing its never return to the biosphere are requisite for the disposal. Presently, the evaluating techniques for the high level radioactive waste disposal are not fully developed. Therefore, in order to dispose the high level radioactive wastes in proper time the R & D of it is urged in our country. The R & D and/or the international joint research programme for the disposal of high level wastes have already been proceeded. In our country no plan for its disposal has been prepared. It is the time that the direction of the R & D is to be discused seriously. The R & D for the disposal of high level radioactive wastes in Korea is believed to be focused on developing the pecular techniques such as in situ characteristics of groundwater flowage, and change of properties of in situ rock mass at thermal effects.
