Study of the Dependency of the Stirling Cryocooler′s Thermodynamic Performance on the Operating Frequency (스터링 극저온 냉동기 성능의 운전주파수 의존성에 관한 연구)

  • A free piston and free displacer (FPFD) Stirling cryocooler has been widely used for the cooling infrared and cryo-sensor. The thermodynamic performance of the free piston and free displacer type (FPFD) Stirling cryocooler is highly dependent on the operating frequency of the linear compressor and the natural frequency of the displacer. In this study, to find optimal relation between operating and natural frequency of the displacer the dynamic characteristics of the displacer in the expansion space of the Stirling cooler was investigated by experiment. The experimental results show that the Stifling cryocooler has maximum cooling capacity at the operating frequency of about 0.8 times of the natural frequency of displacer. Therefore the operating frequency of the Stirring cryocooler should be determined by natural frequency of the linear compressor and displacer.

  • In the design of the split type free displacer Stilting cryocooler the motion of the displacer is very important to decide the cooling capacity, which depends upon the working gas pressure, the swept volume in the compression space and the expansion space, operating frequency, the phase shift between piston and displacer, etc. In this study, Stirling cryocooler actuated by the electric farce of the dual linear motor is designed and manufactured. Cool down characteristics of the cold end with laser displacement sensor in the expander of the Stilting cryocooler is evaluated. The charging pressure was 15kg$_{f}$/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and operating frequency was 50Hz. Input power and the lowest temperature were about 32W and 67K, respectively. And, displacement of the piston is measured by LVDTs (Linear Variable Differential Transformers), displacement of thedisplacer is measured by laser optic method, and phase shift between piston and displacer is discussed. As the peak-to-peak pressure of the compressor was increased, peak-to-peak displacement of the displacer was increased. The peak-to-peak displacement of the displacer increases in the range of 0 - 64.5Hz(resonant frequency of the displacer), but decreases steeply when the operating frequency is bigger than the resonant frequency. Finally when the phase shift between displacements of the Piston and displacer is 45。, operating frequency is optimum and is decided by resonant frequency of the expander, mass and cross section area of the displacer and constant by friction and flow resistance.e.

Head & neck 환자의 방사선치료 시 tongue displacer 사용의 유용성 평가

  • I. 목적 : 방사선 치료 시 최적화된 체내 선량분포를 얻는 것은 정상조직의 장애를 줄이고 종양선량을 높여 치료 효율을 극대화하는데 매우 중요하다. 본원에서는 병변 부위가 한쪽으로 치우친 head&neck 환자 치료 시 정상조직(tongue)을 보호하기 위해 tongue displacer를 만들어 사용한다. 이에 본 저자는 tongue displacer사용의 치료 유용성을 평가 하고자 한다. II. 대상 및 방법 : head & neck 치료 환자 중 병변 부위가 인체의 정중선(MSP)을 기준으로 한쪽으로 치우친 환자를 대상으로 하였다. 사용된 실험재료로는 C-T (high speed advantage, GE,US), RTP System (3D RTP system, prowess, US), 치과용 인상제 주입기(caulk system, quixx, japan), tongue displacer 등이 있다. 실험 방법은 모의 치료나 planning C-T를 시행하기 전에 치료 환자에게 사용할 개인용 tongue displacer를 치과용 인상제로 자체 제작하였다. 제작 후 모의 치료를 시행하고 3D plan을 하기 위해 planning C-T를 촬영하게 되는데 이때 tongue displacer사용 유. 무에 따라 각각 촬영을 하였다. 촬영된 두 가지의 CT영상을 prowess를 이용하여 3D plan을 하게 되는데 이때의 plan parameter나 beam direction등 plan에서의 모든 조건은 모두 동일시하고 선량 분포 및 DVH(dose volume histogram)값을 비교하였다. III. 결과 : tongue displace의 사용 유. 무에 따른 3D plan상의 DVH 비교 결과 tumor volume 주위의 다른 organ들은 모두 비슷한 양상의 DVH를 보였으나 tongue에 있어서 큰 변화를 보였다. tongue displacer를 사용 시, 미 사용시 보다 tongue의 위치를 변화시켜 치료 부위 외의 tongue에 받는 방사선 피폭 면적을 줄일 수 있었고 그 결과 DVH상의 $50\%$ volume이 $16\%$ 정도 줄어드는 것이 확인되었다. IV. 결론 : tongue에 방사선을 조사하면 방사선 부작용으로 mucositis, ulcer, hemorrhage등의 pain(동통)이 수반되므로 치료환자의 음식물 섭취불량으로 체증감소 등 전신 쇠약으로 이어질 수 있다. head & neck 환자 중에서 병소 위치가 한쪽으로 치우쳐서 있을 경우 인상제를 이용하여 tongue displacer를 만들어서 사용하면 tongue 의 위치를 변화시켜 방사선 조사 야에서 제외시켜준다. 그러므로 방사선 치료 시 tongue의 부작용을 최소화 할 수 있고 환자의 방사선 치료 만족도를 높일 수 있다고 사료된다.

  • A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stirling cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials). A Stirling cryocooler is relatively compact, reliable, commercially available, and uses helium as a working fluid. The FPFD stirling cryocooler consists of two compressor pistons driven by linear motors which makes pressure waves and a pneumatically driven displacer piston with regenerator. The FPFD Stirling cryocooler employs 1) the Stirling cycle for refrigeration, 2) linear for driving the cryocooler, 3) spring and gas support systems, and 4) fine gap for clearance seals. It is the most suitable design for a mechanical cryocooler utilized in night vision environment. In order to get optimum operating frequency, natural frequency of piston and displacer, optimum phase angle between piston and displacer, cooling capacity, performance tests of the Stirling cryocooler by the frequency characteristics were performed.

Ion Exchange of Glutamic Acid Coupled with Crystallization (결정화 반응이 결합된 글루탐산의 이온교환)

  • A specific ammino auid in a mixture can be crystallized inside an ion exchange column when displacer concentration is high enough to concentrate the amino acid in a pure band beyond its solubility limit. Glutamic acid formpd a discrete crystal layer in a cation exchanger column by operating displacement development mode and using a high concentration of displacer NaOH. The glutamic acid crystal formed was eluded from the column with the effluent stream and collected in a fraction collector. When 1.0 M of NaOH was used as a displacer, more than 60% of the loaded glutamic acid was recovered as crystal. The continuous crystallization and dissolution of crystal occurred, resulting in apparent movement of the crystal along the column without clogging or pressure increase. NaOH was proved a better displacer than NaCl because hydroxide ions neutralized hydrogen ions released from the resin and thus reduced the number of hydrogen ion competing with sodium ion for re-adsorption. The displacement development process coupled with crystallization provided higher concentration and recovery of glutamic acrid than conventional chromatography.

  • The split-type free displacer Stirling refrigerators have been widely used for the cooling of infrared sensors and HTS filters. The thermodynamic and electric performance of the Stirling refrigerator is depending on the design and operating parameters. In the Stirling refrigerator with a free displacer, the refrigeration power is a function of the pressure wave in the expansion space, dynamics of a displacer, driving frequency, and etc.. In this study, the analysis of the small Stirling refrigerator was performed to investigate the effects of design parameters on the cooling capacity. The results show the effects of charging pressure, driving frequency, cold end temperature, natural frequency of a displacer and volume of expansion space on the performance of the Stirling refrigerator.

Thermal-flow analysis of a simple LTD (Low-Temperature-Differential) heat engine

  • A combined thermal and flow analysis was carried out to study the behavior and performance of a small, commercial LTD (Low-Temperature-Differential) heat engine. Laminar-flow solutions for annulus and channel flows were employed to estimate the viscous drags on the piston and the displacer and the pressure difference across the displacer. Temperature correction factors were introduced to account for the departure from the ideal heat transfer processes. The analysis results indicate that the work required to overcome the viscous drags on engine moving parts and to move the displacer is much smaller than the moving-boundary work produced by the power piston for temperature differentials in the neighborhood of $20^{\circ}C$ and engine speeds below 10 RPS. A comparison with experimental data reveals large degradations from the ideal heat transfer processes. Thus, heat-transfer devices inside the displacer cylinder are recommended.
