Animation as a public visuals media have been expanding increasingly its social and cultural influences beyond the ages and nations on the basis of global consumption. However, animation increases the negative impact in modern popular culture, and in regard to this, 'the recovery of ethics' should be considered in a reflexive and educational perspectives for the social role of animation. Thus, the research addresses the animation films of Brigham Young University students which contain a ethical values and receive attention by New York Times, etc. as a successful educational model. To do this, firstly, literature has reviewed by focusing on the negative impact of animation, 1) violence, 2) excessive sensationalism, 3) confusion of cultural identity, 4) gender discrimination, and 5) distorted view of history. Secondly, the education system of animation course at Brigham Young University will be analysed. Thirdly, based on this, the case study will be conducted by focusing on the 13 animation films of students to reveal the characteristics of the way of film direction. Through this research, firstly, most of animation films are comic genre, consisting of children and animal characters, family-friendly and lyrical story style and deployment of coincidental and allegoric incident. Thirdly, the religious spirit and multidisciplinary methods of education in Brigham Young University has influenced to the ethical expression and technical perfection in animation filmmaking. In the light of this, the research and suggests the new paradigm is for the practical disciplines of animation in the restoration of the ethical perspective and explores how the animation production adopts the moral significance.

An Information Retrieval (IR) is to retrieve relevant information that satisfies user's information needs. However a major role of IR systems is not just the generation of sets of relevant documents, but to help determine which documents are most likely to be relevant to the given requirements. Various attempts have been made in the recent past to use syntactic analysis methods for the generation of complex construction that are essential for content identification in various automatic text analysis systems. Unfortunately, it is known that methods based on syntactic understanding alone are not sufficiently powerful to Produce complete analyses of arbitrary text samples. In this paper, we present a document ranking method based on two-level ranking. The first level is used to retrieve the documents, and the second level to reorder the retrieved documents. The main keywords used in the first level can be defined as nouns and/or compound nouns that possess good document discrimination powers. The sub-keywords used in the second level can be also defined as adjectives, adverbs, and/or verbs that are not main keywords, and function words. An empirical study was conducted from a Korean encyclopedia with 23,113 entries and 161 Korean natural language queries collected by end users. 850% of the natural language queries contained sub-keywords. The two-level document ranking methods provides significant improvement in retrieval effectiveness over traditional ranking methods.
There is recent recognition that the approach toward family members is crucial for understanding problems in multi-cultural families by emerging from typical approach focused on migrant women. While researches have reported serious conflicts and adaptation problems from cultural difference between parent-in-law and foreign daughter-in-law, cultural stress of parent-in-law has not been systematically examined. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a scale to measure acculturation stress of parent-in-law who have a foreign daughter-in-law. The sample consisted of 266 parents-in-law from three provinces of South Korea. Initially, 16 items were generated based on the existing scale of acculturation stress and they are tested by item-analysis through the descriptive and correlational analysis. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted to investigate the factor structure of the scale and a confirmatory factor analysis was used to validate the scale. By item-analysis, five items were deleted from initial scale items because of redundancy. Findings from an exploratory factor analysis provided the evidence that the scale consists of three factors which are the perception of prejudice and discrimination, conflicts from different cultural value, and daily discomfort. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for the scale is 0.86. Multiple fit indices from confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the hypothesized three-factor model for acculturation stress achieved a good fit with the data. Results showed the evidence for the reliability and validity of the scale for acculturation stress of the parent-in-law who have foreign daughter-in-law. The scale would have potential effects for assessing psychological stress for parent-in-law in research and clinical practice. Further implications and limitation of the study and suggestions for future studies were discussed.
This study investigated the effects of Pb/Tl ratio, Pb concentration and concomitant matrix elements on the measurement of Pb isotope ratios using multi-collector ICP/MS (AXIOM MC model). Accuracy and reproducibility of Pb isotope ratios in NBS 981 solution were estimated for 42 data measured from March to August 2001. Pb isotopes measured in rocks, bronzes and sediments were compared to data measured by TIMS. Reproducibilities for $^{206}Pb/^{204}Pb,\; ^{207}Pb/^{204}Pb,\;and\;^{208}Pb/^{204}Pb$ ratio were about 500 ppm (2sd) and for $^{207}Pb/^{206}Pb$\;and\;^{208}Pb/^{206}Pb$ were 100~200 ppm for 200 ng of Pb in NBS 981 solution. The optimum conditions for the analysis of Pb isotope ratios with AXIOM MC for best accuracy and reproducibility were defined as follows; 1) Pb/Tl ratio is about 10 2) Pb concentration is about 100 ng/ml 3) correction for mass discrimination is performed by exponential law using 2.3887 of $^{205}Tl/^{203}Tl$ and Pb mass fractionation factor empirically obtained from $ln(^{208}Pb/^{206}Pb)-ln(^{205}Tl/^{203}Tl)$ relationship. The sample data measured with MC/ICP/MS for acid-digested and chemically separated rock samples, and acid-digested bronze samples and sediment samples coincide with those of TIMS within analytical errors. Therefore, MC/ICP/MS is a rapid analytical technique for Pb isotope ratios with the similar precision compared with TIMS.
Petrological and chemical studies of Precambrian dikes in the southern Lake Superior region were conducted with the objects of evaluating magma source and constraining models for the paleo-tectonic environment. Forty-six samples were analyzed for major, trace, and rare earth elements. Chemical data of the studied dikes are typical of continental tholeiites and showing iron-enrichment fractionation trend. With wallrock contamination carefully evaluated, a series of tectonic discriminating methods utilizing immobile trace elements indicate that the source magma was a high-Ti tholeiitic basalt similar to present-day T-type MORB. Effect of chemical contamination from wallrock assimilation accmulates with increasing differentiation. Evolved rocks show LREE enriched patterns and have enhanced levels of LIL elements (e.g., Rb, K, Ba, Th), but low levels of high field strength elements (e.g., Nb, P, Ti) with respect to their neighboring elements. It is suggested from this study that this enrichment possibly due to a combination of a feature inherited from the subcontinental lithosphere and crustal contamination. Geochemical signatures of these rocks are distinctively different from those of arc-related volcanics. Comparisons with chemistries of modern magmas show a pattern of overlap between Within-plate and ocean-floor characteristics, and chemical signatures of these rocks favor a model of intrusion into a crustal environment undergoing lithospheric attenuation.
Three species (0. kinbergi, 0. sarsi and 0 . sarsi vadicola) of the genus Ophiura (Echinodermacta: Ophiuroidea) were sampled from the various localities of Korean waters (Kyonggi Bay in March and September, 1989 and February, 1994; Yellow Sea in September and October, 1992; Southern Sea and Korean Strait in May, 1992; and eastern coasts adjacent to Kangnung in April, July, October, 1993 and January, 1994). Results of the examination of 250 Operational Taxonomical Units (OTUs) are presented based on the 20 morphometric variables to evaluate their taxonomic characters and positions. In cluster analysis, 250 OTUs were divided into 3 phenons (0. kinbergi, 0 . sarsi and 0 . sarsi vadicola) at the Euclidean distance levels of 6.84 and 2 phenons (a phenon composed of 0 . sarsi and 0 . sarsi vadicola and the other of 0. kinbergi) at 7.50. Stepwise discriminant analysis was used in order to produce a good discrimination model and 13 morphological characters (the total number of comb papillae, the number of primary comb papillae and shape of comb papillae (2). etc.) were extracted. The results of canonical discriminant analysis illustrated clear distinction among 3 phenons by the distance of 8.26 between 0 . sarsi and 0. sarsi vadicola, 24.24 between 0 . kinbergi and 0. sarsi vadicola and 21.63 between 0 . kinbergi and 0 . sarsi.

Plant metabolomics is a research field for identifying all of the metabolites found in a certain plant cell, tissue, organ, or whole plant in a given time and conditions and for studying changes in metabolic profiling as time goes or conditions change. Metabolomics is one of the most recently developed omics for holistic approach to biology and is a kind of systems biology. Metabolomics or metabolite fingerprinting techniques usually involves collecting spectra of crude solvent extracts without purification and separation of pure compounds or not in standardized conditions. Therefore, that requires a high degree of reproducibility, which can be achieved by using a standardized method for sample preparation and data acquisition and analysis. In plant biology, metabolomics is applied for various research fields including rapid discrimination between plant species, cultivar and GM plants, metabolic evaluation of commercial food stocks and medicinal herbs, understanding various physiological, stress responses, and determination of gene functions. Recently, plant metabolomics is applied for characterization of gene function often in combination with transcriptomics by analyzing tagged mutants of the model plants of Arabidopsis and rice. The use of plant metabolomics combined by transcriptomics in functional genomics will be the challenge for the coming year. This review paper attempted to introduce current status and prospects of plant metabolomics research.
This study examined whether the difference in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) velocities can predict the prognosis of stroke and whether the prognostic impact differs among stroke subtypes. Transient ischemic attack (TIA) or acute ischemic stroke patients, who underwent a routine evaluation and transcranial Doppler (TCD), were included in this study. The MCA asymmetry index was calculated using the relative percentage difference in the mean flow velocity (MFV) between the left and right MCA: (|RMCA MFV-LMCA MFV|/mean MCA MFV)${\times}100$. The stroke subtypes were determined using the TOAST classification. Poor functional outcomes were defined as a mRS score ${\geq}3$ at 3 months after the onset of stroke. A total of 988 patients were included, of whom 157 (15.9%) had a poor functional outcome. Multivariable analysis showed that only the MCA asymmetry index was independently associated with a poor functional outcome. ROC curve analysis showed that adding the MCA asymmetry index to the prediction model improved the discrimination of a poor functional outcome from acute ischemic stroke (from 88.6% [95% CI, 85.2~91.9] to 89.2% [95% CI, 85.9~92.5]). The MCA asymmetry index has an independent prognostic value for predicting a poor short-term functional outcome after an acute cerebral infarction. Therefore, TCD may be useful for predicting a poor functional outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Purpose: IBTR! 2.0 nomogram is web-based nomogram that predicts ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR). We aimed to validate the IBTR! 2.0 using an external data set. Materials and Methods: The cohort consisted of 2,206 patients, who received breast conserving surgery and radiation therapy from 1992 to 2012 at our institution, where wide surgical excision is been routinely performed. Discrimination and calibration were used for assessing model performance. Patients with predicted 10-year IBTR risk based on an IBTR! 2.0 nomogram score of <3%, 3%-5%, 5%-10%, and >10% were assigned to groups 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively. We also plotted calibration values to observe the actual IBTR rate against the nomogram-derived 10-year IBTR probabilities. Results: The median follow-up period was 73 months (range, 6 to 277 months). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.607, showing poor accordance between the estimated and observed recurrence rate. Calibration plot confirmed that the IBTR! 2.0 nomogram predicted the 10-year IBTR risk higher than the observed IBTR rates in all groups. High discrepancies between nomogram IBTR predictions and observed IBTR rates were observed in overall risk groups. Compared with the original development dataset, our patients had fewer high grade tumors, less margin positivity, and less lymphovascular invasion, and more use of modern systemic therapies. Conclusions: IBTR! 2.0 nomogram seems to have the moderate discriminative ability with a tendency to over-estimating risk rate. Continued efforts are needed to ensure external applicability of published nomograms by validating the program using an external patient population.
