  • This study is aimed at observing effects of fingerprint image quality on various photographing conditions in the aspect of resolution. Discrimination between two friction ridges plays an important role in the value of fingerprint image, and it can be confirmed with quantification of pixels of boundary region which is existing between two friction ridges. In this study, several factors were estimated with same fingerprint image using Adobe photoshop CS 6 for analysis: changes of image quality by ISO, movement when photographing, and photographers' experience and skill. Consequently, there was no significant change of image quality by ISO. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the hand-held images between crime scene investigators and laymen, yet there was significant difference between hand-held images and images using tripod in the aspect of resolution. This study shows that using tripod is very important in forensic fingerprint photography through empirical methods.

  • This study attempted to propose a space planning of rural villages having been connected by small-regions units as a plan of regional economic growth through cultivating native resources located in rural areas and then developing them. As research methods, this study carried out literature research and empirical study at the same time, and then was progressed to directions of deducing a basic plan by applying alternatives to actual object sites based on the results. Endogenous developments of areas through native resources' developments have been emphasized in Korea recently, and various policies and strategies are being appeared for making regional economic growth under these recognitions. However, rural village planning has directed to physical maintenances centering on functionality till now, and composed of facility repairs and experience projects of urban-rural interchanges mostly so as to solve living environments between cities and agricultural villages. Therefore, this study intended to pose discrimination with existing rural village planning, and set up a growth plan of rural villages by cultivating and developing tangible and intangible native resources having been kept in the rural villages and then commercializing them centering on indigenous native resources.

  • The purpose of this research is to grasp the influencing factors on the labor market entry of disabled women, and to suggest policy alternatives to support the labor market entry of them. This article utilized the survey data of the 3rd to the 7th Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in 2010-2014(by PSED), which is a longitudinal survey for the disabled in Korea. I analyzed the pattern changes of the labor market entry of them with the passage of years, and the influencing factors on that by the event history analysis. The major findings are as follows: First, according to the life table analysis involved in change of the labor market entry, 90% of them continued to remain the longest period of unemployment for four years and the labor market entry rate was only 10% of them. Second, the result of Cox regression analysis shows that public benefit recipient or not, the degree of disability and discrimination experience at the job market were factors to affect the labor market entry. With these results, this study suggested the practical alternatives to improve the labor market entry of disabled women.

  • In spite of increasing women migrants, proper social programs based on human rights are hardly found. In this paper, with the implication of 'diaspora', the essential term of multi-culturalism from the perspective of migrant women is briefly discussed. Also, social programs for migrant women are suggested through looking into the experiences of EU. EU policies and social programs are reorganized through data analysis and policy contents analysis. EU has longer history of immigration, and has provided the proper and long-term programs to accept migrant women as the qualified social member. EU social programs are based on the principles of non-discrimination, full employment, human rights and citizenship. Social programs should imply long-term inclusive policy for migrants, and help migrants to experience empowerment in the society. By looking into some examples of social programs of employment, education and general knowledge, useful social programs are to be suggested.

  • Background: All nasal bone fractures have the potential for worsening of olfactory function. However, few studies have studied the olfactory outcomes following reduction of nasal bone fractures. This study evaluates posttraumatic olfactory dysfunction in patients with nasal bone fracture before and after closed reduction. Methods: A prospective study was conducted for all patients presenting with nasal bone fracture (n=97). Each patient consenting to the study underwent the Korean version of Sniffin' Sticks test (KVSS II) before operation and at 6 month after closed reduction. The nasal fractures were divided according to the nasal bone fracture classification by Haug and Prather (Types I-IV). The olfactory scores were compared across fracture types and between preoperative and postoperative settings. Results: Olfactory dysfunction was frequent after nasal fracture (45/97, 46.4%). Our olfactory assessment using the KVSS II test revealed that fracture reduction was not associated with improvements in the mean test score in Type I or Type II fractures. More specifically, the mean posttraumatic Threshold, discrimination and identification score decreased from 28.8 points prior to operation to 23.1 point at 6 months for Type II fracture with septal fracture. Conclusion: Our study has revealed two alarming trends regarding post-nasal fracture olfactory dysfunction. First, our study demonstrated that almost half (46.4%) of nasal fracture patients experience posttraumatic olfactory dysfunction. Second, closed reduction of these fractures does not lead to improvements olfaction at 6 months, which suggest that olfactory dysfunction is probably due to factors other than the fracture itself. The association should be further explored between injuries that lead to nasal fracture and the mechanism behind posttraumatic olfactory dysfunction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to present the clinical analysis of the results and our experience of the replantation surgery of the great toe. Materials and Methods: Between March 1995 and December 2002, twelve great toes, amputated from the distal phalanx to proximal phalanx were replanted. The complete types were 5 cases and incomplete types were 7 cases. The guillotine injuries were 4 cases and the crushing injuries were 8 cases. Results: Replantation in eleven out of the twelve amputations survived. The cases of revision were 3 cases due to venous thrombosis. Patients were followed up for a mean period of 2.2 years. The mean total active motion of the first MTP joint was $80^{\circ}$. The fusion of IP joint was carried in 7 cases due to the amputation of the IP joint level. The shortening of the replanted great toes was present, with average 0.9cm. The two point discrimination was 7-8mm except 2 cases with loss of nerve. Conclusion: Although replantation of the great toe remains to be controversial, replantation of the great toe should be considered in well-motivated patients because successful replantation regains an important component of the foot and good functional, cosmetic results.

  • Purpose: Free flaps from the great toe are an established method for reconstruction of absent or partially amputated thumbs. However, options differ as to which technique represents the ideal solution for each level of amputation. Various methods of distal thumb reconstruction have been proposed. We prefer to transplant the entire great toe nail complex with the almost all of the pulp rather than a portion of the nail. This paper reflects our experience in using the great toe mini wrap-around flap for distal thumb reconstruction. Materials and Methods: In the period from October of 2005 to July of 2007, 9 patients were treated for traumatic thumb defects localized at the distal phalanx of the thumb. The patients included seven men and two women. The mean age was 44 years (range, 21~60) and the dominant right hand was involved in seven of nine patients. Results: The transferred flaps have survived completely in all cases. The mean range of motion in the interphalangeal joints was 51o, with 73% of the normal uninjured opposite hands. The two-point discrimination was 10.5 mm (range, 5~13 mm). In Semmes-Weinstein monofilament test, the sensibility was 4.31 in 4 cases, 3.61 in 3 cases and 2.83 in 2 cases. The pinch power was 64% (range, 55~95%) of the opposite hand. All patients were satisfied with the appearance of the reconstructed thumb and felt comfortable at final follow-up. Conclusion: We have successfully reconstructed 9 cases of traumatic distal thumb defects using the mini wrap-around free flap. The mini wrap-around free flap in great toe is an excellent alternative method for distal thumb reconstruction in selected patients.

  • Local college students are differenciated from Seoul-located university students and they experience discrimination and prejudice. The present paper examines the money-relating daily frustration among local university students compared to Seoul-located college students. For survey, twenty items were constructed in order to figure out daily frustration. About 400 local-college students and about 250 students were interviewed for the survey. As a result of Chi-square analysis, this study finds that local college students are more likely to confront money-relating frustration, compared to the Seoul-located college students. Youth allowance can be suggested for local college students in order to solve their confronting frustration, especially toward the convergence era.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a moderating effect of protective factors on risk factors in affecting school adjustment of immigrant youths. For this purpose, this study analyzed 69,720 youths who weighed 6,079 children of youths ages 9-24 among the 2015 National Survey of Multicultural Families. From the results of the analysis, first, the discrimination experience, school violence and depression, which are risk factors of immigrant youths, all had negative effects on school adjustment. Parental relations, self-esteem, Korean language ability, and nationality acquisition, which are protective factors, all had a positive effect on school adjustment. Second, among the three risk factors in the school adjustment of immigrant youths, self-esteem and nationality acquisition variables were analyzed as the protective factors moderating depression, and the protective factors controlling school violence were analyzed as parental relationship, self-esteem, Korean ability and nationality acquisition variables. Based on the results of the analysis, decrease in immigrant youths' depression, coping with academic violence, and development and support of various competency development programs were suggested as major social welfare practices.
