Truss-Z (TZ) is an Extremely Modular System (EMS). Such systems allow for creation of structurally sound free-form structures, are comprised of as few types of modules as possible, and are not constrained by a regular tessellation of space. Their objective is to create spatial structures in given environments connecting given terminals without self-intersections and obstacle-intersections. TZ is a skeletal modular system for creating free-form pedestrian ramps and ramp networks. The previous research on TZ focused on global discrete geometric optimization of the spatial configuration of modules. This paper reports on the first attempts at structural optimization of the module for a single-branch TZ. The internal topology and the sizing of module beams are subject to optimization. An important challenge is that the module is to be universal: it must be designed for the worst case scenario, as defined by the module position within a TZ branch and the geometric configuration of the branch itself. There are four variations of each module, and the number of unique TZ configurations grows exponentially with the branch length. The aim is to obtain minimum-mass modules with the von Mises equivalent stress constrained under certain design load. The resulting modules are further evaluated also in terms of the typical structural criterion of compliance.
This paper presents the two lossless auxiliary inducors-assisted voltage source type half bridge(single ended push pull:SEPP) series resonant high frequency inverter for induction heated fixing roller in copy and printing machines. The simple high-frequency inverter treated here can completely achieve stable zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation forwide its output power regulation ranges and load variations under constant high frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) scheme. Its transient and steady state operatprinciple is originally described and discussed for a constant high-frequency PDM control strategy under a stable ZCS operation commutation, together with its output effective power regulation charactertics-based on the high frequency PDM strategy. The experimenoperating performances of this voltage source SEPP ZCS-PDM series resonant high frequency inverter using IGBTs are illustrated as compared with computer simulation results and experimenones. Its power losses analysis and actual efficiency are evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The feasible effectiveness of this high frequency inverter appliimplemented here is proved from the practical point of view.
In this paper, numerical simulations of both low- and high-frequency buzz phenomena at the throttle ratios (T.R.) in Nagashima's experiment are performed. The dominant frequencies of the low-and high-frequency buzz in the experiment are about 109 Hz with T.R.=0.97 and 376 Hz with T.R.=0.55, respectively. An axisymmetric solver with the S-A turbulence model is used for the simulations, and DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) on pressure histories is conducted for the buzz frequency analysis. In the present simulations, the free-stream Mach number and the Reynolds number based on the inlet diameter are 2 and $10^7$, respectively. Both the low- and high-frequency buzz phenomena are accomplished without the changes in the grid topology. The dominant frequency of the simulation is about 125 Hz with T.R.=0.97, while it is 399 Hz with T.R.=0.55.
본 논문의 연구결과는 기존의 DLoD(Discrete Level of Detail)를 지원하는 게임을 CLoD(Continuous Level of Detail)를 지원하는 게임으로 확장하는 등의 다양한 컴퓨터 그래픽스 응용문제에 사용할 수 있다.
The modular multilevel converter (MMC) has become a promising topology for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems. To control a MMC system properly, the ac-side current, circulating current and submodule (SM) capacitor voltage are taken into consideration. This paper proposes a low-computation indirect model predictive control (IMPC) strategy that takes advantages of the conventional MPC and has no weighting factors. The cost function and duty cycle are introduced to minimize the tracking error of the ac-side current and to eliminate the circulating current. An optimized merge sort (OMS) algorithm is applied to keep the SM capacitor voltages balanced. The proposed IMPC strategy effectively reduces the controller complexity and computational burden. In this paper, a discrete-time mathematical model of a MMC system is developed and the duty ratio of switching state is designed. In addition, a simulation of an eleven-level MMC system based on MATLAB/Simulink and a five-level experimental setup are built to evaluate the feasibility and performance of the proposed low-computation IMPC strategy.
The fracture process zone in concrete is a region ahead of a traction-free crack, in which two
major mechanisms, microcracking and bridging, play important roles. The toughness due to
bridging is dominant compared to toughness induced by microcracking, so that the bridging is
dominani: mechanism governing the fracture process of concrete. Fracture mechanics does work
for concrete provided that the fracture process zone is being considered, so that the development
of model for the fracture process zone is most important to describe fracture phenomena in
concrete.
In this paper the bridging zone, which is a part of extended rnacrocrack with stresses
transmitted by aggregates in concrete, is modelled by a Dugdale-Barenblatt type model with linear
tension-softening curve. Two finite element techniques are shown for the analysis of progressive
cracking in concrete based on the discrete crack approach: one with crack element, the
other without crack element. The advantage of the technique with crack element is that it dees
not need to update the mesh topology to follow the progressive cracking. Numerical results by
the techniques are demonstrated.

In-band full-duplex (IBFD) wireless communication supports symmetric dual transmission between two nodes and asymmetric dual transmission among three nodes, which allows improved throughput for distributed IBFD wireless networks. However, inter-node interference (INI) can affect desired packet reception in the downlink of three-node topology. The current Half-duplex (HD) medium access control (MAC) mechanism RTS/CTS is unable to establish an asymmetric dual link and consequently to suppress INI. In this paper, we propose a medium access control mechanism for use in distributed IBFD wireless networks, FD-DMAC (Full-Duplex Distributed MAC). In this approach, communication nodes only require single channel access to establish symmetric or asymmetric dual link, and we fully consider the two transmission modes of asymmetric dual link. Through FD-DMAC medium access, the neighbors of communication nodes can clearly know network transmission status, which will provide other opportunities of asymmetric IBFD dual communication and solve hidden node problem. Additionally, we leverage FD-DMAC to transmit received power information. This approach can assist communication nodes to adjust transmit powers and suppress INI. Finally, we give a theoretical analysis of network performance using a discrete-time Markov model. The numerical results show that FD-DMAC achieves a significant improvement over RTS/CTS in terms of throughput and delay.

3D based information is demanded increasingly as cities grow three dimensionally and buildings become large and complex. The use of 3D GIS is also getting attention as fundamental data for ubiquitous computing applications such as location-based guidance, path finding and emergency escaping. However, most 3D modeling techniques are focused on the visualization of buildings or terrains and do not have topological structures required in spatial analyses. In this paper, we introduce a method to incorporate topological relationship into 3D models by combining 2D GIS layers and 3D model. We divide indoor spaces of a 3D model into discrete objects and then define the relationship with corresponding features in 2D GIS layers through database records. We also show how to construct hallways network in the 2D-3D integrated building model. Finally, we test different cases of route finding situations inside a building such as normal origin-destination path finding and emergency evacuation.

Sensor network, that is an infrastructure of ubiquitous computing, consists of a number of sensor nodes of which hardware is very small. The network topology and routing scheme of the network should be determined according to its purpose, and its hardware and software may have to be changed as needed from time to time. Thus, the sensor network simulator being capable of verifying its behavior and estimating performance is required for better design. Sensor network simulators currently existing have been developed for specific hardwares or operating systems, so that they can only be used for such systems and do not provide any means to estimate the amount of power consumption and program execution time which are major issues for system design. In this study, we develop the sensor network simulator that can be used to design and verify various sensor networks without regarding to types of applications or operating systems, and also has the capability of predicting the amount of power consumption and program execution time. For this purpose, the simulator is developed by using machine instruction-level discrete-event simulation scheme. As a result, the simulator can be used to analyze program execution timings and related system behaviors in the actual sensor nodes in detail. Instruction traces used as workload for simulations are executable images produced by the cross-compiler for ATmega128L microcontroller.
