The cdma2000 1xEV-DO system controls the data rates of mobile terminals based on a binary overload indicator from the base station and a simple probabilistic model. However, this traffic control scheme has difficulty in controlling the reverse-link traffic load effectively and in guaranteeing a stable operation of the reverse link because each mobile terminal determines the next data rate autonomously. This paper proposes a new trafRc control scheme to improve the system stability, and analyzes the proposed scheme by modeling it as a discrete-time Markov process. The numerical results show that the maximum data rate of the proposed scheme is much higher than that of the conventional one. Moreover, the proposed scheme does not modify the standard physical channel structure, so it is compatible to the existing 1xEV-DO system.
Highly integrated MPEG-4@SP video compression engine, VideoCore, is proposed for mobile application. The primary components of video compression require the high memory bandwidth since they access the external memory frequently. They include motion estimation, motion compensation, quantization, discrete cosine transform, variable length coding, and so on. The motion estimation processor adopted in VideoCore utilizes the small-size local memories such that the video compression system accesses external memory as less frequently as possible. The entire video compression system is divided into two distinct sub-systems: the integer-unit motion estimation part and the others, and both operate concurrently in a pipelined architecture. Thus the VideoCore enables the real-time high-quality video compression with a relatively low operation frequency.

For the problem of cross-layer joint resource allocation (JRA) in the Long-Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced standard using carrier aggregation (CA) technology, it is difficult to obtain the optimal resource allocation scheme. This paper proposes a joint resource allocation algorithm based on the weights of user's average quality of experience (JRA-WQOE). In contrast to prevalent algorithms, the proposed method can satisfy the carrier aggregation abilities of different users and consider user fairness. An optimization model is established by considering the user quality of experience (QoE) with the aim of maximizing the total user rate. In this model, user QoE is quantified by the mean opinion score (MOS) model, where the average MOS value of users is defined as the weight factor of the optimization model. The JRA-WQOE algorithm consists of the iteration of two algorithms, a component carrier (CC) and resource block (RB) allocation algorithm called DABC-CCRBA and a subgradient power allocation algorithm called SPA. The former is used to dynamically allocate CC and RB for users with different carrier aggregation capacities, and the latter, which is based on the Lagrangian dual method, is used to optimize the power allocation process. Simulation results showed that the proposed JRA-WQOE algorithm has low computational complexity and fast convergence. Compared with existing algorithms, it affords obvious advantages such as improving the average throughput and fairness to users. With varying numbers of users and signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), the proposed algorithm achieved higher average QoE values than prevalent algorithms.
The illegal copying and redistribution of digitally-stored information is a crucial problem to distributors who electronically sell digital data. Fingerprinting scheme is a techniques which supports copyright protection to track redistributors of electronic information using cryptographic techniques. Anonymous fingerprinting schemes, differ from symmetric fingerprinting, prevent the merchant from framing a buyer by making the fingerprinted version known to the buyer only. And the scheme, differ from asymmetric fingerprinting, allows the buyer to purchase goods without revealing her identity to the merchant. In this paper, a new anonymous fingerprinting scheme based on secret sharing is introduced. The merchant finds a sold version that has been distributed, and then he is able to retrieve a buyer's identity and take her to court. And Schnorr's digital signature prevents the buyer from denying the fact he redistributed. The buyer's anonymity relies on the security of discrete logarithm and secure two-party computations.
LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) is an active remote sensing technology which provides 3D coordinates of the Earth's surface by performing range measurements from the sensor. Early small footprint LIDAR systems recorded multiple discrete returns from the back-scattered energy. Recent advances in LIDAR hardware now make it possible to record full digital waveforms of the returned energy. LIDAR waveform decomposition involves separating the return waveform into a mixture of components which are then used to characterize the original data. The most common statistical mixture model used for this process is the Gaussian mixture. Waveform decomposition plays an important role in LIDAR waveform processing, since the resulting components are expected to represent reflection surfaces within waveform footprints. Hence the decomposition results ultimately affect the interpretation of LIDAR waveform data. Computational requirements in the waveform decomposition process result from two factors; (1) estimation of the number of components in a mixture and the resulting parameter estimates, which are inter-related and cannot be solved separately, and (2) parameter optimization does not have a closed form solution, and thus needs to be solved iteratively. The current state-of-the-art airborne LIDAR system acquires more than 50,000 waveforms per second, so decomposing the enormous number of waveforms is challenging using traditional single processor architecture. To tackle this issue, four parallel LIDAR waveform decomposition algorithms with different work load balancing schemes - (1) no weighting, (2) a decomposition results-based linear weighting, (3) a decomposition results-based squared weighting, and (4) a decomposition time-based linear weighting - were developed and tested with varying number of processors (8-256). The results were compared in terms of efficiency. Overall, the decomposition time-based linear weighting work load balancing approach yielded the best performance among four approaches.

The tonal signal caused by the machinery component of a vessel such as an engine, gearbox, and support elements, can be modeled as a sparse signal in the frequency domain. Recently, compressive sensing based techniques that recover an original signal using a small number of measurements in a short period of time, have been applied for the tonal frequency detection. These techniques, however, cannot avoid a basis mismatch error caused by the discretization of the frequency domain. In this paper, we propose a method to detect the tonal frequency with a small number of measurements in the continuous domain by using the atomic norm minimization technique. From the simulation results, we demonstrate that the proposed technique outperforms conventional methods in terms of the exact recovery ratio and mean square error.

Avionics System Integration Laboratory is an integrated test environment for the integration and the verification of avionics systems. Recently, in order to fully consider the requirements verification of avionics system from the aspect of the entire system integration, the participation in the development of the SIL field is advanced from the requirement analysis of the aircraft. Efforts are being made to minimize the cost and the period of development of a SIL so that it does not affect the overall schedule of the aircraft development. We propose the avionics simulation model framework (ASMF) based on the modeling formalism applicable to SIL in order to reduce development period/cost and increase maintenance by standardizing the modeling methods of SIL.

Discrete event simulation environments often need to be modified because additional questions to systems may become apparent while observing the simulation results repeatedly. It leads to increasing development budget and depreciating the effectiveness of the environment. To avoid the modifications and to generate the altered results, this paper applies an Event Control Model (ECM) with control functions that modulate, delete and generate the events at the simulation time. In addition, this paper suggests an easier approach for domain-users, who do not want to program at source code level, by using ECM templates. The simulators with the ECMs can have better extensibility because it becomes more adaptable to possibly unanticipated changes. It prevents increasing development costs due to modifications or development of new models by M&S experts, and it provides a new alternative step to domain users. To support the effectiveness of this approach, this paper describes a relevant example, which is composed of an initial simulation model based on our empirical studies. It will show that there exist the uncountable benefits because the existing simulator is reused by domain users without new projects.

We consider a wafer lot transfer/release planning problem from semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities to probing facilities with the objective of minimizing the deviation of workload and total tardiness of customers' orders. Due to the complexity of the considered problem, we propose a two-level hierarchical production planning method for the lot transfer problem between two parallel facilities to obtain an executable production plan and schedule. In the higher level, the solution for the reduced mathematical model with Lagrangian relaxation method can be regarded as a coarse good lot transfer/release plan with daily time bucket, and discrete-event simulation is performed to obtain detailed lot processing schedules at the machines with a priority-rule-based scheduling method and the lot transfer/release plan is evaluated in the lower level. To evaluate the performance of the suggested planning method, we provide computational tests on the problems obtained from a set of real data and additional test scenarios in which the several levels of variations are added in the customers' demands. Results of computational tests showed that the proposed lot transfer/planning architecture generates executable plans within acceptable computational time in the real factories and the total tardiness of orders can be reduced more effectively by using more sophisticated lot transfer methods, such as considering the due date and ready times of lots associated the same order with the mathematical formulation. The proposed method may be implemented for the problem of job assignment in back-end process such as the assignment of chips to be tested from assembly facilities to final test facilities. Also, the proposed method can be improved by considering the sequence dependent setup in the probing facilities.

Avionics corresponds to the brain, nerves and five senses of an aircraft, and consists of aircraft mounted electronic equipment of communication, identification, navigation, weapon, and display systems to perform flight and missions. It occupies about 50% of the aircraft system, and its importance is increasing as the technology based on the 4th industrial revolution is developed. As the development period of the aircraft is getting shorter, it is definitely necessary to develop a stable avionics SIL in a timely manner for the integration and verification of the avionics system. In this paper, we propose a method to replace the legacy SIL with the avionics simulation model framework based one and evaluate the framework based on the result of alternative application.
