  • Critical conduction mode (CRM) operation is more efficient than continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation at low power levels because of the valley switching of switches and elimination of the reverse recovery losses of boost diodes. When using a sensorless digital control method, an error occurs between the actual and the estimated current. Because of the error, it operates as CCM or discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) during CRM operation and also has an adverse effect on THD of input current. In this paper, a current sensorless technique is presented in an inverter system using a bridgeless boosted power factor correction converter, and a compensation method is proposed to reduce CRM calculation error. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper describes a boost converter to be operated at the boundary of continuous current mode(CCM) and discontinuous current mode(DCM) for power factor correction and low cost. A control method to be utilized in simulation is a average-current mode method in case of operating in CCM. The simulation results show that Better is the CCM converter then the DCM converter in harmonic content and input current waveform. And A Double-boost converter is superior to single-boost converter for input-current harmonic.

  • PFC(Power Factor Correction) converters are commonly designed for CCM(Continuous Conduction Mode). However, DCM(Discontinuous Conduction Mode) appears in the input current near the ZCP(Zero Crossing Point) at light loads, resulting in input current distortion. It is caused by inaccurate average current values obtained in DCM. This paper studies a simple digital control scheme that can be operated in both CCM and DCM with minimal changes to the CCM average current control structure.

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of ZCS-PFM high frequency series resonant inverter using IGBT power module for electromagnetic induction eddy current-heated roller in copy and printing machines. The operating principle and unique features of this voltage source half bridge inverter with two additional soft commutation inductor snubber are presented including the transformer modeling of induction heated rolling drum. This soft switching inverter can achieve stable zero current soft commutation under a discontinuous and continuous resonant load current for a widely specified power regulation processing. The experimental results and computer-aided analysis of this inverter are discussed from a practical point of view.

  • In high power application, PFC(Power Factor Correction) pre-regulators are generally required. PFC pre-regulators could achieve unity power factor, reduce line input current harmonics and utilize full line power. Interleaving PFC converters could reduce input ripple current, output capacitor ripple current and inductor size. With this closed loop interleaving method, both two phase converters are working at the boundary between continuous and discontinuous mode and accurate 180 degree phase shift is achieved. Implementation of this strategy could be easily integrated to the control chip. Finally, experimental results of a two-phase interleaved boost PFC are presented to verify the discussed features.

  • The conventional non-isolated boost converter has some drawbacks such as poor dynamic performance and a discontinuous output current, which make it unsuitable for battery charging applications. In spite of its compactness and lightness, it is not preferred as a charger of portable electronic devices. In this paper, a non-isolated boost converter topology for Li-ion batteries suitable for fuel cell powered laptop computers is proposed and analyzed. The proposed converter has an additional inductor at the output to make a continuous output current. This feature makes it suitable for charger applications by eliminating the disadvantages of the conventional non-isolated boost converter mentioned above. A prototype of the proposed converter is built for the Li-ion battery charger of a laptop computer to prove the validity and advantages of the proposed topology.

  • The high efficiency full-bridge LLC resonant converter using a contact-less transformer Is proposed for the photovoltaic power generation system. For the series resonance with a series capacitor, the LLC resonant converter utilizes the leakage inductance and magnetizing inductance of a contact-less transformer Unlike the conventional series resonant converter operated to the continuous resonant current at above resonance frequency, the proposed converter operates to the discontinuous resonant current at the narrow frequency control range below resonance frequency. Due to the discontinuous mode resonant current, the proposed converter can be achieved the zero voltage switching (ZVS) in the primary switches and the zero current switching (ZCS) in the secondary rectification diodes without my auxiliary circuit. In this paper, the experimental results of the proposed full-bridge LLC resonant converter using a contact-less transformer are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 150W experimental prototype.
