  • As disasters have been increasing in recent years, disaster health literacy is gaining more important for a population such as middle-age women. This is because they face developmental crises (menopause) and situational crisis (disaster). Due to the growing elderly population, it is imperative to seriously consider the issue of aging women's healthcare, and their educational needs relative to emergencies and disasters. The purpose of study was to clarify the importance of disaster health literacy for middle-age women. This study is a review of the literature using PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Google Scholar, SCOPUS, OVID, ProQuest, Springer, and Wiley. Data was collected with keywords related to the research topic ("Women's health" OR "Geriatric health") AND ("Health literacy" OR "Disaster health literacy" OR "Disaster prevention literacy" OR "Risk knowledge" OR "Knowledge management") AND ("Disasters" OR "Risk" OR "Crises") in combination with the Boolean-operators OR and AND. We reviewed full text English-language articles published November 2011 November 2017. Additional references were identified from reference lists in targeted publications, review articles and books. This review demonstrated that disaster health literacy is critical for elderly women, because they may suffer from physical and psychological problems triggered by developmental crises such as menopause and situational crises such as disasters. Disaster literacy could enable them to improve resiliency and reduce disaster risk. Education has vital role in health promotion of middle-age women. Policymakers and health managers should be aware of the challenges of elderly women as a vulnerable group in disasters and develop plans to incorporate disaster health literacy for preparedness and prevention in educating this group.

  • To analyze the seismic reliability of concrete rectangular liquid storage structures (CRLSSs), assuming that the wall thickness and internal liquid depth of CRLSSs are random variables, calculation models of CRLSSs are established by using the Monte Carlo finite element method (FEM). The principal stresses of the over-ground and buried CRLSSs are calculated under three rare fortification intensities, and the failure probabilities of CRLSSs are obtained. The results show that the seismic reliability increases with the increase of wall thickness, whereas it decreases with the increase of liquid depth. Between the two random factors, the seismic reliability of CRLSSs is more sensitive to the change in wall thickness. Compared with the over-ground CRLSS, the buried CRLSS has better reliability.

  • In school safety education, it was difficult to apply how to link the safety education according to grades year, and student's interest was reduced due to the repetition of existing safety education contents and the absence of new teaching methods and tools. In this study, as a new type of safety education, a performance forms fire safety education program was developed. This program aims to increase students' interest and satisfaction in safety education, and to this end, it was connect with korean elementary science curriculum and combined various engineering teaching materials or tools and methods. Developed program was applied to 2,231 students, 25 schools in 10 regions of Gyeonggi-do and surveyed 476 fifth and sixth grade students program satisfaction and 3 factors of interest in fire safety education who could respond to the survey. As a result of applying the program, more than 90% of students responded more than 'satisfied' in all areas. and statistical test(independent t-test and non-parametric test) indicates over-all satisfaction and interest factors in the program are high regardless of gender and grade, so the effectiveness can be guessed indirectly and there is a universal applicability also. Moreover, examining the influence of student interest level in the satisfaction of the fire safety program, it was found that in order to increase the satisfaction of fire safety education, students should have more fun with the content and feel interest in the teacher's teaching method or explanation.

  • To explore the influence of coal thickness on the mechanical behavior and the failure characteristics of rock-coal-rock (RCR) mass, the experimental investigation of uniaxial compressive tests was conducted first and then a systematic numerical simulation by particle flow code (PFC2D) was performed to deeply analyze the failure mechanical behavior of RCR specimens with different coal thicknesses in conventional compression tests. The overall elastic modulus and peak stress of RCR specimens lie between the rock and the coal. Inter-particle properties were calibrated to match the physical sample strength and the stiffness response. Numerical simulation results show that the deformation and strength behaviors of RCR specimens depend not only on the coal thickness, but also on the confining pressure. Under low confining pressures, the overall failure mechanism of RCR specimen is the serious damage of coal section when the coal thickness is smaller than 30 mm, but it is shear failure of coal section when the coal thickness is larger than 30 mm. Whereas under high confining pressures, obvious shear bands exist in both the coal section and the rock section when the coal thickness is larger than 30 mm, but when the coal thickness is smaller than 30mm, the failure mechanism is serious damage of coal section and shear failure of rock section.

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose the level of disaster safety perception (disaster safety importance, accident possibility, personal safety, and regional safety) of local residents, and to analyze the impact of individual and accident cause characteristics. The analysis method used multiple regression analysis, and the main analysis results are as follows. First, disaster safety importance and accident possibility were higher as residents who had experience in safety education and were willing to visit the safety experience center in the province. Second, disaster safety importance was higher as the cause of the accident was the lack of response 119 and police. And accident possibility was higher as the cause of the accident was the lack of prior treatment by the state and local governments. Third, personal safety and regional safety were higher for men, and especially personal safety was lower as residents with children. The results of this study can be used as basic data for establishing regional customized disaster safety policies based on the perception of local residents, who are policy consumers.

  • In this study, by classifying latent groups for disaster safety awareness focusing on the four sub-factors of the developed disaster awareness scale of high school students, the characteristics of each group were examined, and the differences between latent classes according to inter-individual differences were investigated. As a result of analysis based on the data of a total of 1054 high school students, the disaster safety awareness of high school students was classified into three latent groups. Each latent group was named 'High Safety Awareness Type(SAT)', 'Normal SAT', and 'Low SAT' according to its characteristics. In all four fire safety awareness sub-factors, 'High SAT', which had a high score, accounted for 56.5% of the total, and 'Normal SAT', which had a moderate score in the sub-factors, had the lowest ratio at 20.3%. There were no significant differences by gender, grade, and academic achievement of the latent group. These results are not only meaningful as the first study of the latent profile analysis of high school students on disaster safety awareness, but also help to identify the characteristics of individuals in each latent group with more subdivisions and provide useful data for disaster safety awareness education according to individual differences. The implications of this study and suggestions for follow-up studies were discussed.

  • With the mining depth continuously increasing, gas emission behaviors become more and more complex. Gas emission is an important basis for choosing the method of gas drainage, gas controlling. Thus, the accurate prediction of gas emission is of great significance for coal mine. In this work, based on the sources of gas emission from the heading faces and the fluid-solid coupling process, we established a gas continuous dynamic emission model, numerically simulated and applied it to the engineering. The result was roughly consistent with the actual situation and shows the model is correct. We proposed the measures of reducing the excavation distance and borehole gas drainage based on the model. The measures were applied and the result shows the overproof problem of gas emission disappears. The model considered the influence factors of gas emission wholly, and has a wide applicability, promotional value. The research is of great significance for the controlling of gas disaster, gas drainage and pre-warning coal and gas outbursts based on gas emission anomaly at the heading face.
