With the rapid distribution and active usage of the Internet, information search and retrieval through Internet has become a primary form of information access. This ubiquity of information access through Internet means the increased significance of search performance offered by Internet portals, since the optimization of search performance by portal has strong implication for the effective access of information through Internet in general. In this context, this paper investigates the classification scheme used in the directory service of internet portals, which provides selected and organized access to Internet information. First, the author analyzes the deployment of directory classification of standard subdivision topics used in traditional library classification system, with emphasis on the table composed of the form and approach, which are applicable to diverse subject areas. Then, based on this analysis, he proposed a method of applying certain subdivisions of the standard subdivision to directory service of Internet portals.

The web server is configured to display the list of files contained in this directory. This is not recommended because the directory may contain files that are not normally exposed through links on the web site. The directory list have some serious vulnerability to show internal files and directory to outsider attackers. Therefore, the proposed countermeasure of directory list is presented to prevent unnecessary valuable information from outsider attackers.

This paper proposes directory service protocol in distributed environment. By adding an condition retrieval function to Modify operation, the ExtModify operation improves the inconvenience to transfer a search operation and resume a Modify operation. The method suggests how to correct all the entries which require retrieval condition out of other entries designated by LDAPND.

Recently, information systems that require storage and retrieval of huge amount of data are becoming used widely. Accordingly, research efforts have been made to develop Linux cluster file systems in the SAN environment in which clients themselves can manage metadata and access data directly. Also a semi-flat directory structure based on extendible hashing has been proposed to support fast retrieval of files[1]. In this research, we have designed and implemented the semi-flat extendible hash directory under the Linux system. In order to evaluate the practicality of the directory, we have also implemented the B+-tree based directory and experimented the performance. According to the performance comparisons, the extendible hash directory has the better performance at insert, delete, and search operations. On the other hand, the B+-tree directory is better at sorting files.

Most web portals provide a web directory service which selects and classifies web sites according to their subject matter. In order to investigate the directory access behavior of general Korean web users, this study analyzes directory access logs of NAVER, a major Korean web search engine. This study suggests a methodology to classify the total sessions into six different session types. This study also discusses directory access behaviors of the NAVER users by examining the distribution of sessions according to session types, the lengths of navigation within a session, and the most frequently visited categories. It is expected that this study could contribute to the development of more effective web directory services.

While the amount of information exchanged through internet has dramatically increased recently, certain inefficiencies still exist with regard to the storage, distribution, and retrieval of information. As a means of improving efficiency in accessing information, many search portals provide directory services to present organized guidance to information, based on the classification schemes. This study examines the classification activities practiced by the major search portals in Korea and makes some suggestions to improve the quality of directory services.

The study measured whether two search engines retrieve different Web documents for 6 queries. Two different search engines, Alta Vista in terms of keyword search engines and Yahoo in terms of subject directory engines were measured using as criteria, total number of documents retrieved, total number of relevant documents retrieved, recall and precision ratios. In addition, Alta Vista was suitable for specific and technical terms, while Yahoo was effective for general and plain terms. However, more elaborate research needs to be tested in terms of query characteristics.

Mobile directory has offered just the same function until now, SNS service also has offered for our to meet other people and liaise between person and person. But it has a important thing which can not offer direct to liaise between person and person. In this paper, we has developed the "SNS Consolidation Directory" for solve the problem which needs to modern people with. A main purpose of SNS Consolidation Directory will develop the smart directory which offer to improve SNS service and personal relation supervision. This system function has initial search, anniversary, birthday alarm, using the UI contact frequency, SNS service and directory exchange.

This study examines coverage and coverage overlap of the three major Korean web directories, Naver, Yahoo Korea, and Empas. This study also suggests a methodology for collecting and processing web sites provided by these web directories. A method for napping main categories was developed. Each directory provided registered web pages in a slightly different way. Reference links had a significant influence on the coverage of each web directory. The overlap of pages among three directories was quite low, It is expected that this study could contribute to the field of web research by providing insights to how directories provide web pages and suggesting a methodology for the analysis of directory coverage.

The most widely used information searching method in the current internet environment is the keyword-based one, which has certain limitations in terms of precision and recall. Most major internet portals provide directory-based searching as a means to complement these limitations. However, that they adopt different classification schemes brings significant inconvenience to the users, and it consequently suggests a need to develop mapping gateway to provide cross-portal, or cross-directory information searching. In this context, this study attempts to develop a prototype system of intermediary gateway for integrated search, using the directory services of three major portals, Naver, Yahoo and Empas, and test its performance.
