  • In this paper a forward-backward can extrusion process are analyzed by using rigid-plastic FEM simulation. FEM simulation is conducted to investigate forming characteristics such as deformation modes fur different process parameters. Design parameters such as thickness ratio, punch angle, friction factor and diameter ratio are selected to study the effect of them on the pattern of material flow. The analysis is focused mainly on the influences of the design factors on deformation pattern in terms of forming load, extruded length ratio and volume ratio. It is known for the simulation that the forming load, the length ratio and the volume ratio increase as the thickness ratio (TR), the wall thickness in forward direction to that in backward direction, decreases. The various punch angles have slight influence on the forming load. length ratio and volume ratio. However friction factor have little effect on the forming characteristics such as the forming load, volume ratio and so on. In addition the forming load increases as diameter ratio (DR), the outer diameter of a can in forward direction to that in backward direction, increases. Furthermore the extruded length ratio is lowest with a certain value of DR=0.85 among diameter ratios. Pressure distribution exerted on the die-material interface is illustrated schematically.

  • In order to examine the effect of anisotropy and stress ratio on fatigue crack propagation rate and opening-closing behavior and also arrest behavior by single tension peak overload, the fatigue tests of constant amplitude atress and single tension peak overload adding to cycle of constant amplitude were carried out in stress ratio of -0.4, -0.2, and 0.4 with materials of T-L and L-T directions in 2024-T3 aluminum alloy plate. Crack opening-closing begavior were measured by the compliance method using COD gage and strain gage. In case of the crack opening-closing behavior was measured by strain gage, the effect of stress ratio is unchangeable. But in the case of COD gage, that is remarkably decreased. Fictitious effective stress intensity factor(U sub(f)) and effective stress intensity factor ratio(U) in L-T direction was higher than those in T-L direction and also threshold arrest overload ratio incrased as stress ratio decreased and that of T-L direction was higher than that in L-T direction.

  • Finite element analysis is peformed about the crack propagation in half-space due to sliding contact. The analysis is based on linear elastic fracture mechanics and stress intensity factor concept. The crack location is fixed and the friction coefficient between asperity and half-space is varied to analyze the effect of surface friction on stress Intensity factor for horizontal crack. The crack propagation direction is predicted based on the maximum range of shear and tensile stress intensity factor.

  • This paper is results of investigating the dominant factors influencing to coefficient of consolidation in horizontal direction of Korean marine clays and their correlations through literature review. From the results of analyzing data obtained from field tests such as piezocone penetration and dilatometer tests as well as laboratory tests, coefficient of consolidation in the horizontal direction was found to increase with increase of stiffness index of soil while it decreases with the increase of dissipation time of pore pressure developed during field tests. In general, the coefficient of consolidation in the horizontal direction tends to increase with increase of undrained shear strength and preconsolidation pressure although correlation between them are relatively low. Friction ratio has a high correlation with coefficient of consolidation in the horizontal direction in case of friction ratio being greater than 1.0. For methods of estimating coefficient of consolidation in the horizontal direction with different testing device, values obtained from methods of P2-logt and DMT-A with dilatometer were quite similar to values from piezocone penetration test. Consistency of soil is quite proportional to coefficient of consolidation in the horizontal direction. Clear correlation between coefficients of consolidation in the horizontal and the vertical directions could not be found. coefficient of consolidation in the horizontal direction estimated from the results of field test tends to be 1.13~3.11 times greater than that obtained from laboratory tests.

  • The main purpose of this study is to suggest the more reliable flow direction methods within the framework of DEM by investigating the existing methodologies. To this end SFD(single flow direction method), MFD(multiple flow direction method) and IFD(Infinite flow direction method) are applied to determination of flow direction for water particles in Jeonjeokbigyo basin, and then assessed with respect to the variation of flow accumulation. As the main results the different patterns of flow accumulation are found out from each application of flow direction methods. As the flow dispersion increases on DEM contributing areas to outlet grow in sequence of SFD, IFD, MFD but contribution of individual pixels into outlet decreases. Especially MFD and IFD tend to make additional hydrologic abstraction from rainfall excess due to the flow dispersion within flow paths on DEM. Based on parameter estimation for power law distribution by maximum likelihood flow accumulation can be thought of as scale invariance factor. Combination of several flow direction methods could give rise to the more realistic water flow on DEM through separate treatment of flow direction methods for dispersion and aggregation effects of water flow within different topographies.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the sensibility images when the direction and width of stripes change on semi-tight skirts. The researcher made 12 stimuli consisting of images of skirts with a combination of six stripe directions and two stripe widths. The images were assessed by 126 subjects who were students majoring in apparel. Three sensibility image factors were found: personality, attractiveness, and activity. Images of skirts with different stripe directions were perceived as having significant differences among these factors. Stripe widths of 1.5cm and 3cm in upward diagonal, vertical side line, and downward diagonal directions influenced the personality factor. Diagonal stripes with a width of 1.5cm positively influenced attractiveness and activity. Stripes in a vertical direction increased attractiveness when the stripe width was 1.5cm rather than 3cm. Although the interaction of stripe direction and width significantly influenced perceptions of attractiveness and activity in images of semi-tight skirts, they did not significantly influence personality. In accordance with the analysis, stripe direction was significantly different for all factors. This analysis indicated that each factor has its own independent influence. Stripe width had major independent effects, showing significance in attractiveness and activity. However, personality did not indicate any significant difference. The results of this study will help women select suitable clothing according to their individual preferences and body shapes by influencing how images are depicted because women will be able to use the images to estimate their body images when the skirts are put on.

  • Rapid Prototyping(RP) is the technique which is used to make prototypes or functional parts directly using the 3-D solid data. Before building the prototype, several processes such as transfering 3D data from CAD system(STL) determination of build-direction, adding support structure and slicing are required. Among the above processes. determination of build-direction is the target of this study. The build direction is determined by many factors according to the objective of the user, like part accuracy, number of support structure, build time, amount of trapped volume, etc, But it is not easy to determine the build-direction because there are many factors and some factors have dependent properties with one another. So, in this study the part accuracy, the number of support structures and build time are considered as the main factor to determine the optimal build-direction. To determine the optimal build-direction for increasing part accuracy, sum of projected area which caused stairstepping effect was considered. The less the projected area is the better part accuracy is About the optimal build-direction to minimize the amount of support structure, sum of projected area of facets that require support structures was considered. About the build time, we considered the minimum height of part we intended. About the build time, we considered the minimun height of part we intended to make.

  • Rising oil price and environmental problems are causing automotive industry to increase fuel efficiency. Improved fuel efficiency in gasoline engine was made possible by development of DISI gasoline engine. Since fuel is injected inside cylinder directly, in-cylinder temperature can be reduced than multi-port injection engine and this leads to increased compression ratio. However, engine performance is largely dependent on mixture formation process due to in-cylinder fuel injection. Especially for spray guided and air guided DISI gasoline engine, injection direction is important factor to mixture preparation. It is because interaction between intake flow and spray affect fuel-air mixture. Hence, in this study, mixture formation characteristics were analyzed by varying injection direction using KIVA 3V release2 code. Residual gas was considered for assuming combustion. Therefore, initial condition for in-cylinder temperature was set equal to the end state of exhaust stroke of combustion cycle. Since angle between intake air flow direction and spray direction affects fluid flow and evaporation field, mixture distribution was affected by fuel injection direction dominantly.
