For the reliable strut-and-tie model (STM) design of disturbed regions of concrete members, structural designers must accurately determine the strength of concrete struts to check the strength conditions of a selected STM el and the anchorage of reinforcing bars in nodal zones. In this study, the author proposed a consistent numerical method for strut strength, applicable to all two-dimensional STMs. The proposed method includes the effects of a biaxial stress state associated with tensile strains in reinforcing bars crossing a strut, deviation angle between strut orientation and compressive principal stress flow, and degree of confinement provided by reinforcement. The author examined the method's validity through the STM prediction of the ultimate strengths of 517 reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams, 24 RC panels, and 258 RC corbels, all tested to failure.

Purpose: The aim of this study was simply assessing linear measurements in the lateral and medial approach, respectively, for bone harvesting using anatomic and three-dimensional(3D) computed tomographic(CT) analyses on a dried cadaveric proximal tibia. In addition, the availability of the three-dimensional computed tomographic(3D-CT) analysis was also estimated. Materials and methods: Ten dried proximal tibia were obtained from five Korean cadavers. Four the reference points, the SM(superior-medial), IM(inferior-medial), SL(superior-lateral), and IL(inferior-lateral) were marked around the tibial tuberosity. The PM(posterior-medial) and PL(posterior-lateral) points were randomly marked at points farthest from the lateral and medial reference points, respectively, in the posterior border of the superior articular surface of both condyles. All measurements were obtained on the dried proximal tibia. After computed tomography had been performed, the three dimensional images were reconstructed using V works $4.0^{TM}$(Cybermed Inc., Seoul, Korea), and the length between the reference points were measured three dimensionally using the method described above. The error between the mean actual and mean 3D-CT measurements was calculated in order to determine the availability of the three dimensional computed tomographic analysis. Results: The length between the reference points was greatest at the IL-PM, which averaged $65.39mm{\pm}10.35$. This was followed by the SL-PM with $63.24mm{\pm}8.10$, the IM-PL with $58.09mm{\pm}10.02$, and the SM-PL with $51.99mm{\pm}9.06$. The differences between the IL-PM and SM-PL were 13.4 mm. The mean values were 55.04 mm in the medial approach and 64.32 mm in the lateral approach, and the differences between medial and lateral were 9.28 mm. The error between the mean actual and mean 3D-CT measurements was 0.31% and the standard deviation was 0.28%. Conclusion: The anatomical and three dimensional computed tomographic analysis indicates that there was only a 9.28 mm linear difference between the lateral and medial approach. This is consistent with previous studies, which showed that there was little difference between the two approaches in terms of the bone volume. In addition, the error(0.31%) and the standard deviation(0.28%) were considered low, demonstrating high accuracy of 3D-CT. Therefore it can be used in preoperative treatment planning.
Objective: This study assessed the differences in soft tissue deviations of the nose, lips, and chin between different mandibular asymmetry types in Class III patients. Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography data from 90 Class III patients with moderate-to-severe facial asymmetry were investigated. The sample was divided into three groups based on the extent of mandibular rolling, yawing, and translation. Soft tissue landmarks on the nose, lips, and chin were investigated vertically, transversely, and anteroposteriorly. A paired t test was performed to compare variables between the deviated (Dv) and nondeviated (NDv) sides, and one-way analysis of variance with Tukey's post-hoc test was performed for intergroup comparisons. Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated to assess the relationship between the soft and hard tissue deviations. Results: The roll-dominant group showed significantly greater differences in the vertical positions of the soft tissue landmarks between the Dv and NDv than other groups (P < 0.05), whereas the yaw-dominant group exhibited larger differences in the transverse and anteroposterior directions (P < 0.05). Moreover, transverse lip cant was correlated with the menton (Me) deviation and mandibular rolling in the roll-dominant group (P < 0.001); the angulation of the nasal bridge or philtrum was correlated with the Me deviation and mandibular yawing in the yaw-dominant group (P < 0.01). Conclusions: The three-dimensional deviations of facial soft tissue differed based on the mandibular asymmetry types in Class III patients with similar amounts of Me deviation. A precise understanding of soft tissue deviation in each asymmetry type would help achieve satisfactory facial esthetics.
Objective: Three-dimensional (3D) printing is a recent technological development that may play a significant role in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment. It can be used to fabricate skull models or study models, as well as to make replica teeth in autotransplantation or tooth impaction cases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of fabrication of replica teeth made by two types of 3D printing technologies. Methods: Fifty extracted molar teeth were selected as samples. They were scanned to generate high-resolution 3D surface model stereolithography files. These files were converted into physical models using two types of 3D printing technologies: Fused deposition modeling (FDM) and PolyJet technology. All replica teeth were scanned and 3D images generated. Computer software compared the replica teeth to the original teeth with linear measurements, volumetric measurements, and mean deviation measurements with best-fit alignment. Paired t-tests were used to statistically analyze the measurements. Results: Most measurements of teeth formed using FDM tended to be slightly smaller, while those of the PolyJet replicas tended to be slightly larger, than those of the extracted teeth. Mean deviation measurements with best-fit alignment of FDM and PolyJet group were 0.047 mm and 0.038 mm, respectively. Although there were statistically significant differences, they were regarded as clinically insignificant. Conclusions: This study confirms that FDM and PolyJet technologies are accurate enough to be usable in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment.

In this research, we made a one and two-dimensional analysis of numerical data collected from the bend curvature of a bended river section. According to the result from the numerical analysis, the inflow & output angle caused a water level deviation which increased with an increase of the flood discharge. From the water level deviation of our two-dimensional numerical model, we obtained the maximum slope of 6,67% when the inflow and output angle was 105 degrees and the flood discharge was 500 CMS. As for the right side, the differences with the one-dimensional numerical model were reduced when the angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. As for the left side the differences were reduced when the angle was more than $105^{\circ}$. For a river with more than 90 degrees bend curvature, a hydraulic experiment would be more appropriate than a numerical analysis.
PURPOSE. When performing an occlusal procedure, it is recommended that the patient should be sitting straight with the head in a natural position. An inappropriate mandibular position caused by an incorrect occlusal record registration or occlusal adjustment can result in damaged teeth and cause functional disorders in muscles and temporomandibular joints. The purpose of this study was to clarify the influence of horizontal cephalic rotation on mandibular position by investigating the three-dimensional positions of condylar and incisal points. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A three-dimensional jaw movement measurement device with six degrees of freedom (the WinJaw System) was used to measure condylar and incisal points. The subjects were asked to sit straight with the head in a natural position. The subjects were then instructed to rotate their head horizontally $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $40^{\circ}$, $50^{\circ}$and $60^{\circ}$ in the right or left direction. RESULTS. The results indicated that horizontal cephalic rotation made the condyle on the rotating side shift forward, downward, and toward the inside, and the condyle on the counter rotating side shift backward, upward, and toward the outside. Significant differences in deviations were found for angles of rotation higher than $20^{\circ}$. The incisal point shifted in the forward and counterrotating directions, and significant differences were found for angles of rotation higher than $20^{\circ}$. CONCLUSION. The mandibular position was altered by horizontal cephalic rotations of more than $20^{\circ}$. It is essential to consider the possibility of deviation of the mandibular position during occlusal procedures.
This paper considers internal pressure fluctuations for a range of building volumes and dominant wall opening areas. The study recognizes that the air flow in and out of the dominant opening in the envelope generates Helmholtz resonance, which can amplify the internal pressure fluctuations compared to the external pressure, at the opening. Numerical methods were used to estimate fluctuating standard deviation and peak (i.e. design) internal pressures from full-scale measured external pressures. The ratios of standard deviation and peak internal pressures to the external pressures at a dominant windward wall opening of area, AW are presented in terms of the non-dimensional opening size to volume parameter, $S^*=(a_s/\bar{U}_h)^2(A_W^{3/2}/V_{Ie})$ where $a_s$ is the speed of sound, $\bar{U}_h$ is the mean wind speed at the top of the building and $V_{Ie}$ is the effective internal volume. The standard deviation of internal pressure exceeds the external pressures at the opening, for $S^*$ greater than about 0.75, showing increasing amplification with increasing $S^*$. The peak internal pressure can be expected to exceed the peak external pressure at the opening by 10% to 50%, for $S^*$ greater than about 5. A dominant leeward wall opening also produces similar fluctuating internal pressure characteristics.

A simple model of the tip leakage flow models of the rotor downstream flow is developed, based on Lakshminarayana's theoretical concept on the tip clearance flow and the experimental data published in open literature. And new spanwise distribution models of deviation angle and pressure loss coefficient due to the tip leakage flow are formulated for use in association with the streamline curvature method as a through flow analysis. Combining these new models and previous deviation and loss models due to secondary flow, a robust streamline curvature method is established for flow analysis of single-stage, subsonic axial turbines with wide ranges of turning angle, aspect ratio and blading type. At the exit from rotor rows, the flow variables are mixed radially according to a spanwise transport equation. The proposed streamline curvature method is tested against a forced vortex type turbine as well as a free vortex type one. The results show that the spanwise variations of flow angle, axial velocity and loss coefficients at rotor exit are predicted with good accuracy, being comparable to a steady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. This simple and fast flow analysis is found to be very useful for the turbine design at the initial design phase.

The boiler tube failure often experienced in the superheater of a utility boiler can seriously affect the economic and safe operation of the power plant. It has been known that this failure is mainly caused by the thermal load deviation in the superheater tube system, and deeply intensified by the non-uniform distribution of steam flow rates. The nonuniform steam flow is distinctively prominent at low power load rather than at full power load. In this paper, we analyze the steam flow distribution in the superheater tube system by using one dimensional flow network model. At 30% power load, the deviation of steam flow rate is predicted to be within 0.8% of the averaged flow rate. This deviation can be reduced to 0.1% and 0.07% by assuming two cases, that is, the removal of 13th tube at each tube rows and the installation of intermediate header, respectively. The assumed two cases would be effective for the uniform steam flow distribution across 85 superheater tube rows.
The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the present condition of pants grading and the methods for the specific dimensional increments, a questionnaire has been conducted. For the questionnaire, 16 casual wear brands, which were on higher ranking of sales in Korea, were selected. The results are summarized as follows. Based on the pants grading data resulting from the research conducted on the (16) domestic clothing brands, the grading method could be classified into three different types. According to the criteria; i.e., the front and back divided by crease of pants and the deviation ratio of the grading increments of the waist and the hip girth, the grading types were (1) G1: front 5:5, back 5:5, (2) G2: front 4:6, back 4:6, and (3) G3: front 4:6, back 3:7.
