  • The purpose of this study was to present the method to choose the optimum machining condition for the wire EDM. This was completed by examining the ever-changing quality of the material and by improving the function of the wire electric discharge machine. Precision metal mold products and the unmanned wire electric discharge machining system were used and then applied in industrial fields. This experiment uses the wire electric discharge machine with brass wire electrode of 0.25mm. To measure the precision of the machining surface, average values are obtained from 3 samples of measures of center-line average roughness by using a third dimension gauge and a stylus surface roughness gauge.

  • Recently, Lesieutre constructed a 6-dimensional projective variety X over any field of characteristic zero whose automorphism group Aut(X) is discrete but not finitely generated. As an application, he also showed that X is an example of a projective variety with infinitely many non-isomorphic real structures. On the other hand, there are also several finiteness results of real structures of projective varieties. The aim of this short paper is to give a sufficient condition for the finiteness of real structures on a projective manifold in terms of the structure of the automorphism group. To be more precise, in this paper we show that, when X is a projective manifold of any dimension≥ 2, if Aut(X) does not contain a subgroup isomorphic to the non-abelian free group ℤ ∗ ℤ, then there are only finitely many real structures on X, up to ℝ-isomorphisms.

  • To examine how London energy controls the c-dimensions of phyllosilicates, London energy, as well as Coulomb and Pauli repulstion energy was calculated as a function of d(001) for 1M and d(002) for 2M 1 phyllosilicates. London and Pauli repulstion energy calcualtion use a direct interaction calculation method and Coulomb energy calculation adopts Fourier synthesis method. The energy calculations show that Coulmb and Pauli repulsion energy dominantly control the c-dimensions of phyllosilicates having the interlayer cationss, i.e., the layer charges. On the other hand, if phyllosilicates have no interlayer cations, London energy is solely responsible for holding the layers and maintain the c-dimensions. The significance of London energy in determining the c-dimensions of phyllosislicates de-creases as the layer charge increases. When the layer charge is lower than one equivalent on the basis of Oη(OH)2 formula, London energy plays an important role in determing the c-dimensions. however, if the layer charge is higher than one equivalent, London energy becomes insignifi-cant in determining the c-dimension.

  • In recent years, ZnO nanostructures have drawn considerable attentions for the development of futuristic electronic devices due to their superior structural and optical properties. As the growth of ZnO nanowires by MOCVD is a bottom-up technique, the nature of substrates has a vital role for the dimension and alignment of the nanowires. However, in the pursuit of next generation ZnO based nanodevices, it would be highly preferred if well-ordered ZnO nanowires could be obtained on various substrates like sapphire, silicon, glass etc. Vertically aligned nanowires were grown on A and C-plane sapphire substrates, where as nanopencils were obtained on R-plane sapphire substrates. In addition, C-axis oriented vertical nanowires were also found using an interfacial layer(aluminum nitride film) on silicon substrates. On the other hand, long nanowires were found on Ga-doped ZnO film on glass substrates. Structural and optical properties of the ZnO nanowires on various substrates were also investigated.

  • We propose a novel neuro-fuzzy system based on an efficient clustering method. It is a very useful method that improves the performance of a fuzzy model with small number of fuzzy rules. The fuzzy clustering methods are studied in the wide range of fuzzy modeling. One of them, the grid partition method has problem of exponentially increasing number of rules when the dimension of input or number of membership function is linearly increased. On the other hand, the Expectation Maximization algorithm is an efficient estimation for unknown parameters of the Gaussian mixture model. Here it is noted that the parameters can be used for fuzzy clustering method. In a fuzzy modeling, it is desired that...

  • Two categories in the design of thick cylinders are suggested and their computer programs are developed; the one termed processing design to ensure the precise inner radius of the cylinder and the other, termd stress compensation design to reduce peak stresses in the cylinder wall. The processing design seeks suitable interference by the method of linear iteration to determine either the radius of the mandrel R or the inner radius ofthe chlinder R$\sub$1/. On the other hand, the stress compensation design seeks first the suitable m and which satisfies the design criteria .sigma.$\sub$actual/ < .sigma.$\sub$allowable/ and then tries to find the suitable interference for given m and .zeta. The design program developed here may be used either in the office at the planning stage of thick chlinders as machine elements of on the processing line to get precise final dimension of inner radius.

  • In this paper we study the consensus problem of SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) linear multi-agent systems under a fixed weighted undirected network communication. The dynamics of each agent can be of any order, while it is constrained to be neutrally stable. Based on a simple root locus argument, we show that the problem at hand is always solvable if the gain and zeros of the dynamic compensator, of which dimension is the same as the number of plant poles on the imaginary axis, are chosen suitably, finally the result is successfully verified by an example.

  • In this paper, we designed the computer input device for rehabilitation of people with hand disabilities. This input device is made up of two Gyrostar sensors attached in the orthnormal directions of x, y axes. Gyrostar is a sensor for angular Acceleration. This device is attached by the user's head side. Head movement is detected by analysing and processing the output wave signals from the sensors therefore enabling the user to move the mouse pointer that helps to operate the computer. This method does not necessitate a complex hardware or a long installation process, which was formerly the case, and uses real time algorithms which enables simple emulation of a computer mouse. The interface of this device and the mouse are the same.

  • Switched reluctance motors have the advantage a high torque/weight ratio, as the large reluctance torque is made by salient poles of both stator and rotor, and a high reliability. On the other hand, the switched reluctance motors have the disadvantage of a large ripple torque which is made by salient poles. So the application for the industrial fields have been limited to special cases. This paper describes the design of a 12/8 switched reluctance motor using a enemy layer method of the asymmetry rotor. The design is focussed to reduce the torque ripple and radial force in the demanded value. The three dimension finite element analysis method(3D-FEM) was used for decides a enemy layer angle of the asymmetry rotor. This paper presents modifications of the rotor pole shape which reduces the torque ripple.

  • This paper presents a system which recognizes the Korean Sign Language(KSL) and translates into normal Korean speech. A sign language is a method of communication for the deaf-mute who uses gestures, especially both hands and fingers. Since the human hands and fingers are not the same in physical dimension, the same form of a gesture produced by two signers with their hands may not produce the same numerical values when obtained through electronic sensors. In this paper, we propose a dynamic gesture recognition method based on feature analysis for efficient classification of hand motions, and on a fuzzy min-max neural network for on-line pattern recognition.
