  • This study was done to detect the topographic and terrain change of the vicinity of the west coast. To make the basic map of the change in topology and terrain, the mosaic images were made using the images from the satellite, which were given the geometric correction based on the GCP (Ground Control Point) and DEM (Digital Elenation Model) data. The accuracy of the images was examined by .empaling them with CCP through 1:25,000's digital map. After that, among the resultant images of the 1970s and 2000s, those of Sihwa, Hwaong and Ansan, the lands reclaimed by drainage were compared to observe the change in the area. From this study, the accuracy of the images of the west coast from satellite could be acquired and the change of the topology and terrain was detected effectively. From the results, it was known that, in case of the land the topological change was not so big due to the development in the reclaimed land or the bare land. In Sihwa, the size of the land was increased 180 $\textrm{km}^2$ and that of the seashore was decreased 110 km. in Hwaong the size was increased 50 $\textrm{km}^2$ and in Ansan the city space was increased 71 $\textrm{km}^2$ due to the formation of the industrial complex.

  • The article discusses the dead reckoning of the traveled path based on the analysis of the video data stream coming from the optoelectronic surveillance devices; the use of relief data makes it possible to partially compensate for the shortcomings of the first method. Using the overlap of the photo-video data stream, the terrain is restored. Comparison with a digital terrain model allows the location of the aircraft to be determined; the use of digital images of the terrain also allows you to determine the coordinates of the location and orientation by comparing the current view information. This method provides high accuracy in determining the absolute coordinates even in the absence of relief. It also allows you to find the absolute position of the camera, even when its approximate coordinates are not known at all.

  • This study aims for generating a city spatial model required for the creation of a 3D noise map. In this study, we propose an efficient method to generate 3D models of the terrain and buildings using only a digital map and draft maps previously established without using any sensory data. The terrain model is generated by interpolating into a grid the elevation values derived from both the contour lines and the elevation point of the digital map. Building model is generated by combining the 2D building boundaries and the building elevations extracted from the digital map and the draft map, respectively. This method has been then applied to a digital map and three sets of draft maps created in the different times. covering the entire area of Yeongdeungpo-gu. The generated city spatial model has been successfully utilized for the noise analysis and the 3D visualization of the analysis results.

  • The analysis of LOS(Line-Of-Sight) is defined as an "unobstructed view between two points". The LOS results may be influenced by terrain source, algorithm/interpolation method, etc. In the area denies any access and flight over, LOS results would be doubtful because of low precision of terrain data therefore have limitations of referring to many military applications. Using LIDAR data, LOS Analysis was performed by changing DTED resolution(1$\sim$30m) and LOS distance(50$\sim$2000m). The results of experiment shows that LOS analysis for small area, such as DMZ surveillance, were heavily influenced by DTED resolution.

  • LOS analysis is used for optimal deployment of mid-range guided weapon system or system engagement effectiveness simulation. Comparing to real-world, LOS analysis includes error sources such as coarse terrain data resolution, refraction of radio waves, and several ideal assumptions. In this research, exact LOS algorithm under assumption of constant earth curvature and error analysis of that is investigated. It proved that LOS algorithm under assumption of constant earth curvature has negligible error in mid-range guidance weapon system's scope.

  • The purpose of this preliminary study is the applied to geology using the Landsat TM satellite image of the Tanggung area of southern part of the Bandung, Indonesia to provide basic information for geological survey. For this, topography, geology and satellite image were constructed to spatial database. Digital elevation, slope, aspect, curvature, hill shade of topography were calculated from the topographic database and lithology was imported from the geological database. Lineament, lineament density, and NDVI were extracted the Landsat TM satellite image. The results showed the close relationship between geology and terrain and satellite image. Each sedimentary rock seldom corresponds with geology and analyses of topography but as a whole for sedimentary rocks coincide with them. Tuff and volcanic breccia in the volcanic rocks correspond with the result of terrain analyses. Talus deposits is well matched with the analyses of opography/satellite image.

  • Several curvature parameters, solar radiation parameter and topographic flow generation parameters have been summarized and calculated to predict the spatial distribution of soil moisture content. The spatial distribution of soil moisture data can be obtained using Global Positioning System(GPS) and portable soil moisture monitoring equipment, Theta-Probe. Correlation analysis has been performed between the parameters of soil moisture prediction and measured data of soil moisture. Multiple regression analysis of soil moisture prediction shows the potential capability and limitations of existing methods of digital terrain analysis.

  • In this paper, air-defense simulation model, called "DADSim", will be introduced. DADSim(Distributed Air Defense Simulation Model) was developed by Modeling&Simulation Lab of K.N.D.U.(Korea National Defence Univ) Weapon Systems Department. This model is an analysis-purpose model in the engagement-level. DADSim can simulate not only the global air-defense or Korean Peninsula but also the local air-defense or a battle field. DADSim uses the DTED(digital terrain elevation data) LeveII it for the representation of peninsula terrain characteristics. The weapon systems cooperated in the model are low/medium-range missile systems such as HAWK, NIKE, SAM. DADSim was designed in the way of object-oriented development method, implemented by C++ language. The simulation view is an event-sequenced object-orientation. For the convenience of input, output analysis, GUI(Graphic User Interface) of menu, window, dialog box, etc. are provided to the user, For the execution of DADSim, Silicon Graphic IRIX 6.3 or high version is required. DADSim can be used for the effectiveness analysis ofdefence systems. Some illustrative examples will be shown in this paper.

  • Among components of digital topographic maps used officially in Korea, only contours have 3D values except buildings and trees that are demanded in landscape planning. This study presented a series of processes for 3Dreconstructing landscape features such as terrain, buildings and standing trees using LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data and aerial digital photo graphs. The 3D reconstructing processes contain 1) building terrain model, 2) delineating outline of landscape features, 3) extracting height values, and 4) shaping and coloring landscape features using aerial photograph and 3-D virtual data base. LiDAR data and aerial photograph was taken in November 2006 for $50km^{2}$ area in Sorak National Park located in eastern part of Korea. The average scanning density of LiDAR pulse was 1.32 points per square meter, and the aerial photograph with RGB bands has $0.35m{\times}0.35m$ spatial resolution. Using reconstructed 3D landscape features, visibility with the growing trees with time and at different viewpoints was analyzed. Visible area from viewpoint could be effectively estimated considering 3D information of landscape features. This process could be applied for landscape planning like building scale with the consideration of surrounding landscape features.
