Recently, with the sharp increase of digital visual media such as photographs, animations, and digital videos, it has been necessary to generate mosaic blocks in a static or dynamic image intentionally or unintentionally. In this paper, we suggest a new method for detecting mosaic blocks contained in a color image using boundary features. The suggested method first extracts Canny edges in the image and finds candidate mosaic blocks with the boundary features of mosaic blocks. The method then determines real mosaic blocks after filtering out non-mosaic blocks using geometric features like size and elongatedness features. Experimental results show that the proposed method can detect mosaic blocks robustly rather than other methods in various types of input images.

In general, mosaic blocks are used to hide some specified areas, such as human faces and disgusting objects, in an input image when images are uploaded on a web-site or blog. This paper proposes a new algorithm for robustly detecting grid mosaic areas in an image based on the edge projection. The proposed algorithm first extracts the Canny edges from an input image. The algorithm then detects the candidate mosaic blocks based on horizontal and vertical edge projection. Subsequently, the algorithm obtains real mosaic areas from the candidate areas by eliminating the non-mosaic candidate regions through geometric features, such as size and compactness. The experimental results showed that the suggested algorithm detects mosaic areas in images more accurately than other existing methods. The suggested mosaic detection approach is expected to be utilized usefully in a variety of multimedia-related real application areas.
This paper presents a method for obtaining mosaic aerial photographs that are useful for a long-term shoreline change study in the Nakdong estuary. Although this method involves digital photogrammetry software of the shelf its usage can be simplified to accomodate the shoreline change study. Ground control points, which are common in aerial photographs, were measured from digital maps. Block triangulation was highly affected by land-based GCPs. Extension of tie points near the shoreline to vertical control points gave more reliable results for the block triangulation. A constant Digital Elevation Model (DEM), close to mean sea level, was employed to produce ortho-rectified photographs, from which mosaic photographs were made. Accuracy of photographs were found to be acceptable for the analysis of long-term shoreline change, and the promising construction of a shoreline change database in the Nakdong estuary.

A construction can be more convenient and safer with adequate informations. Consequently, studies on collecting various informations using newest surveying technology and applying these informations to a construction have been making progress recently. Digital images are easy to obtain and contain various informations. Therefore, with the recent development of image processing technology, the application field of digital images is getting wider. In this study, we proposed to use a fisheye lens camera in underground construction sites, especially tunnels, to overcome inconvenience in photographing with general lens cameras. A program for mapping the surface of a tunnel and making a mosaic image is also developed. This mosaic image can be applied to observe and analyze abnormal phenomenons on tunnel surface like cracks, water leakage, exfoliates, and so on.
In the past, mosaics were made by laying cloth on the floor and manually tiling the tiles. However, due to recent developments in technology, the data storage method has evolved from analog to digital, so that image representation and conversion can be realized through computer. Also, various expression techniques of mosaic are developed, and it is also used as a method of art representation in digital. There are various studies on the production process of mosaic. The proposed method is a crystallization mosaic that spreads spirally in real time and uses 3D quartz as a tile element. Although existing researches are mostly focused on the purpose of rendering images in more detail, this technique combines untried spiral drawing and crystallization, and attempts to explore new expression techniques in 3D space by attempting a new mosaic method in 3D space. 'Spiral Crystallization Photo', based on this technique, was selected as Top27 in MWU Award 18 and exhibited at Unite Seoul 2018.

The free-stereo mosaics image without GPS/INS and ground control data can be generated by using relative orientation parameters on the 3D model coordinate system. Its origin is located in one reference frame image. A 3D coordinate calculated by conjugate points on the free-stereo mosaic images is represented on the 3D model coordinate system. For determining 3D coordinate on the 3D absolute coordinate system utilizing conjugate points on the free-stereo mosaic images, transformation methodology is required for transforming 3D model coordinate into 3D absolute coordinate. Generally, the 3D similarity transformation is used for transforming each other 3D coordinates. Error of 3D model coordinates used in the free-stereo mosaic images is non-linearly increased according to distance from 3D model coordinate and origin point. For this reason, 3D model coordinates used in the free-stereo mosaic images are difficult to transform into 3D absolute coordinates by using linear transformation. Therefore, methodology for transforming nonlinear 3D model coordinate into 3D absolute coordinate is needed. Also methodology for resampling the free-stereo mosaic image to the geo-stereo mosaic image is needed for overlapping digital map on absolute coordinate and stereo mosaic images. In this paper, we propose a 3D non-linear transformation for converting 3D model coordinate in the free-stereo mosaic image to 3D absolute coordinate, and a 2D non-linear transformation based on 3D non-linear transformation converting the free-stereo mosaic image to the geo-stereo mosaic image.

In this study, we established the ortho mosaic imagery on the Korean Peninsula using KOMPSAT-2 images and conducted an accuracy assessment. Rational Polynomial Coefficient(RPC) modeling results were mostly less than 2 pixels except for mountainous regions which was difficult to select a Ground Control Point(GCP). Digital Elevation Model(DEM) which was made using the digital topographic map on the scale of 1:5,000 was used for generating an ortho image. In the case of inaccessible area, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission(SRTM) DEM was used. Meanwhile, the ortho mosaic image of the Korean Peninsula was produced by each ortho image aggregation and color adjustment. An accuracy analysis for the mosaic image was conducted about a 1m color fusion image. In order to verify a geolocation accuracy, 813 check points which were acquired by field survey in South Korea were used. We found that the maximum error was not to exceed 5m(Root Mean Square Error : RMSE). On the other hand, in the case of inaccessible area, the extracted check points from a reference image were used for accuracy analysis. Approximately 69% of the image has a positional accuracy of less than 3m(RMSE). We found that the seam-line accuracy among neighboring image was very high through visual inspection. However, there were a discrepancy with 1 to 2 pixels at some mountainous regions.
The aim of this study is to describe the problems and solutions for creating a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) mosaic covering the total territory of Mongolia and highlight the role of the available SAR database for updating different thematic layers stored in a geographical information system (GIS).
The CCDs are widely used in astronomical observations either in direct imaging use or spectroscopic mode. However, the areas of available sensors are too small for large imaging format. One possibility to obtain large detection area is to assemble mosaics of CCD, and drive them simultaneously. Parallel driving of many CCDs together rules out the possibility of individual tuning; however, such optimisation is very important, when the ultimate low light level performance is required, particularly for new, or mixed devices. In this work, a new concept is explored for an entirely novel approach, where the drive waveforms are multiplexed and interleaved. This simultaneously reduces the number of leadout connections and permits individual optimisation efficiently. The digital controller can be designed within a single EPLD (Erasable Programmable Logic Device) chip produced by a CAD software package, where most of the digital controller circuits are integrated. This method can minimise the component. count., and improve the system efficiency greatly, based on earlier works by Han et a1. (1996, 1994). The system software has an open architecture to permit convenient modification by the user, to fit their specific purposes. Some variable system control parameters can be selected by a user with a wider range of choice. The digital controller design concept allows great flexibility of system parameters by the software, specifically for the compatibility to deal with any number of mixed CCDs, and in any format, within the practical limit.
Physically-based resampling scheme for roughness coefficient of surface runoff considering the spatial landuse distribution was suggested for the purpose of effective operational application of recent grid-based distributed rainfall runoff model. Generally grid scale(mother scale) of hydrologic modeling can be greater than the scale (child scale) of original GIS thematic digital map when the objective basin is wide or topographically simple, so the modeler uses large grid scale. The resampled roughness coefficient was estimated and compared using 3 different schemes of Predominant, Composite and Mosaic approaches and total runoff volume and peak streamflow were computed through distributed rainfall-runoff model. For quantitative assessment of biases between computational simulation and observation, runoff responses for the roughness estimated using the 3 different schemes were evaluated using MAPE(Mean Areal Percentage Error), RMSE(Root-Mean Squared Error), and COE(Coefficient of Efficiency). As a result, in the case of 500m scale Mosaic resampling for the natural and urban basin, the distribution of surface runoff roughness coefficient shows biggest difference from that of original scale but surface runoff simulation shows smallest, especially in peakflow rather than total runoff volume.
