The kinetics of photoinitiated polymerization of dimethacrylate macromonomers have been studied to determine the diffusion-controlled reaction parameters using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). A predicted kinetic rate expression with a diffusion control factor was employed to estimate an effective rate constant and to define the reaction-controlled and diffusion-controlled regimes in the photopolymerization. An effective rate constant, k$_{e}$, can be obtained from the predicted kinetic rate expression. At the earlier stages of polymerization, the average values of kinetic rate constants do not vary during the reaction time. As the reaction conversion, $\alpha$, reaches the critical conversion, $\alpha$$_{c}$, in the predicted kinetic expression, the reaction becomes to be controlled by diffusion due to the restricted mobility of dimethacrylate macromonomers. A drop in value of effective rate constant causes a drastic decrease of reaction rate at the later stages of polymerization. By determining the effective rate constants, the reaction-controlled and diffusion-controlled regimes were properly defined even in the photopolymerization reaction system.m.m.
The NOx emission characteristics of double-concentric diffusion flames and normal diffusion flames fueled with CH$_4$ were studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for double-concentric diffusion flame with varying central air flow rate and normal diffusion flame. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by numerical model based on detailed chemistry. From the comparison between double-concentric diffusion flames and normal diffusion flames, the results show that EINOx of double-concentric diffusion flames are lower than normal diffusion flame, because of Prompt EINOx was decreased. EINOx of double-concentric diffusion flames increase with central air flow rate increasing.

Characteristics of a laminar diffusion flame placed near wall in microgravity have been numerically analyzed in a two-dimension. The fuel for the flame is $C_2H_4$. The flame is initiated by imposing a high temperature ignition source. The flow field, temperature field, and flame shape in microgravity diffusion flame are detailed. Especially, effects of surrounding air velocity and fuel injection velocity on the microgravity diffusion flame have been discussed accounting for standoff distance. And, the effect of curvature rate has been also studied. The results showed that velocities in a diffusion flame were overshoot because of volumetric expansion and distribution of temperature showed regularity by free-buoyancy This means that the diffusion flame in microgravity is very stable, while the flame in normal gravity is not regular and unstable due to buoyancy. Standoff distance decreases with increase in surrounding air velocity and with decrease in fuel injection velocity. With increasing curvature rate, the position of reaction rate moves away the wall.
Five diffusion models are estimated using three different foreign exchange rates to find an appropriate model for each. Daily spot exchange rates expressed as the prices of 1 euro, 1 British pound and 100 Japanese yen in US dollars, respectively denoted by USD/EUR, USD/GBP, and USD/100JPY, are used. The maximum likelihood estimation method is implemented after deriving an approximate log-transition density function (log-TDF) of the diffusion processes because the true log-TDF is unknown. Of the five models, the most general model is the best fit for the USD/GBP, and USD/100JPY exchange rates, but it is not the case for the case of USD/EUR. Although we could not find any evidence of the mean-reverting property for the USD/EUR exchange rate, the USD/GBP, and USD/100JPY exchange rates show the mean-reversion behavior. Interestingly, the volatility function of the USD/EUR exchange rate is increasing in the exchange rate while the volatility functions of the USD/GBP and USD/100Yen exchange rates have a U-shape. Our results reveal that more care has to be taken when determining a diffusion model for the exchange rate. The results also imply that we may have to use a more general diffusion model than those proposed in the literature when developing economic theories for the behavior of the exchange rate and pricing foreign currency options or derivatives.
Fluorescence quenching of coumarin 153 and coumarin 481 with N,N-dimethylaniline in various solvents was investigated. Quenching rate constants are related to diffusion-limited rate constants to some extent. It is noted that smaller discrepancy was observed between the diffusion-limited rate constant and the experimental quenching rate constant when the stick boundary condition rather than the slip boundary condition was applied for estimating the diffusion coefficients. In nonpolar solvent like cyclohexane fluorescence quenching is adequately explained by the diffusion controlled process within the experimental error, but in acetonitrile the quenching rate constant was estimated to be consistently smaller than the diffusion limited rate constant. This may suggest that fluorescence quenching of coumarin dyes be affected not only by the molecular diffusion but also by the intramoleccular process such as charge separation.
Between 1985 and 1997 the diffusion of private passenger cars first occurred in major cities such as Seoul, Busan, Daegu and the satellite cities of the capital city that enjoyed high incomes and advanced service industries and then it gradually expanded to industrial and major provincial cities while posting a downturn in the major cities. Factor contrbuting to this phenomenon most significantly was the rate of employment in the financial insurance, real estate, and business service sectors in 1985 and 1990. The most ingluential factor in 1997 was the rate of employment in agriculture, hunting, forestry, and fishery. When measured against 1991 as a yardstick, the spatiotemporal ditribution rate of private passenger cars was highly between 1985 and 1990 in Seoul's satellite cities and major regional cities, showing a large inter-regional gap in terms of diffusion rate. The period from 1991 to 1997 showed a high rate of diffusion in cities within the capital region as well as in major regional cities, but inter-regional diffusion rate became similar. Key factors responsible for regional types of the diffusion were {1}the rate of employment in the service industrier and income in the major citier, and (2)the geogtaphic distamce between counties and Seoul plus the size of population in the county regions.
We will deal with an n locus model in which mutation and gene conversion are taken into consideration. Also random partitions of the number n determined by chromosomes with n loci should be investigated. The diffusion process describes the time evolution of distributions of the random partitions. In this paper, we find the probability of distribution of the diffusion process with special diffusion operator $L_1$ and we show that the average probability of genes at different loci on one chromosome can be described by the rate of gene frequency of mutation and gene conversion.
Membrane-coated tablet of isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INAH) which releases INAH at the zero-order kinetics was deveoped. It consisted of a soluble tablet core surrounded by a porous membrane which controls the diffusion rate. Tablet cores were prepared by compressing granules of INAH and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) dissolved in methyl ethyl ketone in which micronized sucrose were suspended. Diffusion rate of INAH from the tablet through the membrane was constant until the loaded INAH in the core was almost released. The rate was independent of pH of the dissolution medium. Water-soluble sucrose particles behaved as a poreproducing material in the water-insoluble PVC film coat. The pH independency of the rate was probably due to the high solubility of INAH in the water of wide pH range. The diffusion rate of INAH could be controlled by chnaging the composition of the membrane or the coat weight. This membrane-coated INAH tablet seemed to be a powerful candidate for the controlled release drug delivery system (DDS) of INAH or other highly watersoluble drugs.

Radiation-induced oscillatory instability in CH$_4$/Air diffusion flames is numerically investigated by adopting detailed chemistry. Counterflow diffusion flame is employed as a model flamelet and optically thin gas-phase radiation is assumed. Attention is focused on the extinction regime induced by radiative heat loss, which occurs at low strain rate. Once a steady flame structure is obtained for a prescribed value of initial strain rate, transient solution of the flame is calculated after a finite amount of strain-rate perturbation is imposed on the steady flame. Depending on the initial strain rate and the amount of perturbed strain rate, transient evolution of the flame exhibits various types of flame-evolution behaviors. Basically, the dynamic behaviors can be classified into two types, namely oscillatory decaying solution and diverging solution leading to extinction.
A numerical model for diffusion and dissolution controlled transport from dispersed matrix is presented. The rate controlling process for transport is considered to be diffusion of drug through a concentration gradient coupled with time-dependent surface change and/or disappearance of the dispersed drug in response to the dissolution. The transport behavior of drug was explained in terms of ${\nu}$ parameter: ${\nu}$ value means a ratio of diffusion time constant and dissolution time constant. This general model has wide range of application from where release is controlled by the diffusion rate to where release is governed by the dissolution rate. Based on this model, theoretical drug concentration, particle size distributions in the polymer matrix system and the resulting release rate were also investigated.
