  • The study aims at exploring motivation, rationale, and values in twitter users' retweet behavior. It proposes that diffusion of message is based on the complex interactional relationships among attributes of original message, user's rationale, and values. Based on a pilot study, we constructed a total of 34 questions asking message attributes, motivation, and values of retweeting. Then, twitter users participated in an online survey, in which they evaluate their own 5 retweet messages based on the constructed questions(5 messages ${\times}$ 34 questions = 170). Then, a factor analysis is done in order to see the dimensions of the concepts in retweet behavior; and understand how message attributes, motivations, and values are inter-related with each other. The main factors extracted were: (1) public fairness, (2) fun and playfulness, (3) communal help, (4) news and information, etc. Factor 2 and 4 show the traditional journalism characteristics; while factor 1 and 3 do alternative journalistic values. The latter may work as a rectifying factors for traditional journalism; however, backfiring mechanism for group polarization. In addition, (1) users' internal identities, (2) communal unity and (3) belongness were identified as rationales and values for retweet behavior.

  • This study explored how rumor is diffused via Twitter and how the characteristics of rumor affect the interactivity among users in the Korea-U.S. FTA case. A key word search located three issues as major ones related to the Korea-U.S. FTA: appendectomy myth, collapse of health insurance, and increases in medicine prices. The arousal of rumor has two dimensions: fact and expression. The fact arousal was the highest in the issue of 'appendectomy myth', and the expression arousal the highest in 'increases in medicine prices'. The rumor diffusion took the 'explosive wave' in the issue of appendectomy myth, the 'latent wave' in the issue of increase in medicine prices, and the 'repetitive wave' in the issue of collapse of health insurance. Correlation analyses revealed a high correlation between the arousal intensity of rumor and the user interactivity in the issue of collapse of health insurance. The study showed that Twitter took a role of diffusing negative messages about the Korea-U.S. FTA. Results implies that government officials and journalists pay attention to Twitter for sensing the public opinion when building policies and managing crises.

  • This study explores diffusion of information on Covid-19 relating to China on You Tube. For this, information on Covid-19 relating to China was divided into factual information and disinformation, with factual information being categorized into positive and negative information. According to network analysis, there are lots of negative information and disinformation. On the contrary positive information is rare. There are lots of videos about rumor on the leak of Wuhan institute among disinformation. Rumor on the manipulation of genes has the highest average value of view count and betweenness centrality. Main stream youtube channel has only role of messenger which delivers messages as it is instead of fact-checking on disinformation. The fact which there are much more negative information or disinformation among videos about Covid-19 relating with China shows that Youtube users skewed toward negative information and disinformation than positive ones. In summary, disinformation on youtube brings spreadable effect by making user watch similar contents.

  • Sensor networks consist of small nodes with sensing, computation, and wireless communications capabilities. A number of routing protocols to transmit the data between the base station and sensor nodes have been proposed. Intanagonwiwat et al. proposed the directed diffusion in which the base station sends interest messages and waits for data from the nodes in the specific regions. Since the directed diffusion propagates every interest message to whole nodes in the network, it causes energy dissipation of nodes. In this paper, we propose a novel data propagation method, which limits the data transmission area according to a threshold value for reducing the energy consumption in the network. A fuzzy logic is exploited to determine the threshold value by considering the energy and density of all the deployed nodes. The simulation models are designed and implemented based on DEVS formalism which is theoretically well grounded means of expressing discrete event simulation models.

  • The sensor nodes on the sensor network transmit the reply for the queries of ADV(Advertisement) message from sink node, and the sink node presents the received information to users. To find the relevant sensor nodes, routing algorithms disseminates ADV messages to the whole network. Thus not only the relevant sensor nodes but also the irrelevant ones consume considerable amount of energy. To alleviate such kind of energy consumption, this thesis proposes a new routing algorithm and coins it Directed Messaging. It propagates ADV message only to the limited direction and changes the direction until the requested sensor node is found. In this way, Directed Messaging reduces unnecessary energy consumption and enhance the efficiency of the networks. Performance of the Directed Messaging algorithm is evaluated through simulation and compared with Directed Diffusion algorithm. Simulation results show that it has better performance than Directed Diffusion.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is facing growing security challenges due to its vulnerability. It is imperative to address the security issues using lightweight and efficient encryption schemes in resource-limited IoT. In this paper, we propose an enhanced message authentication encryption (MAE) scheme based on physical-layer key generation (PKG), which uses the random nature of wireless channels to generate and negotiate keys, and simultaneously encrypts the messages and authenticates the source. The proposed enhanced MAE scheme can greatly improve the security performance via dynamic keyed primitives construction while consuming very few resources. The enhanced MAE scheme is an efficient and lightweight secure communication solution, which is very suitable for resource-limited IoT. Theoretical analysis and simulations are carried out to confirm the security of the enhanced MAE scheme and evaluate its performance. A one-bit flipping in the session key or plain texts will result in a 50%-bit change in the ciphertext or message authentication code. The numerical results demonstrate the good performance of the proposed scheme in terms of diffusion and confusion. With respect to the typical advanced encryption standard (AES)-based scheme, the performance of the proposed scheme improves by 80.5% in terms of algorithm execution efficiency.

  • Information sharing behavior in the Internet has raised much interest. Recently, social network sites provide a new information sharing channel for the users who want to connect with others based on common social background or tastes. Especially, we focus that a social network site becomes one of major routes for information sharing about socially influential issues. Therefore, studying how information is diffused via a social network site may give theoretically, practically significant implication. Based on the assertion, we investigated user's behavior to mediate other user's information messages. We define information mediating behavior as concurrent actions of filtering and distributing behavior of the digital content that is originated from one of the connected users. In this study, we intended to understand the effects of information mediating behavior, and tried to understand characteristics of re-mediating of previously mediated information. Using an agent-based simulation model, we found that information mediating behavior increased the extent of information diffusion significantly. In addition, even a small degree of mediating probability could boost up the level of information diffusion in the case of a re-mediating condition. We believe that those findings provide remarkable insight of research and business application on both of information sharing and diffusion in a social network site.

  • In this paper, it proposes a protocol of resource adaptive data dissemination for sensor nodes in a wireless sensor network. In general, each sensor node used in a wireless sensor network delivers the required information to the final destination by conducting cooperative works such as sensing, processing, and communicating each other using the battery power of a independent sensor node. So, a protocol used for transferring the acquired information to users through the wireless sensor network can minimize the power consumption of energy resource given to a sensor node. Especially, it is very important to minimize the total amount of power consumption with a method for handling the problems on implosion. data delivery overlapping, and excessive message transfer caused by message broadcasting. In this paper, for the maintaining of the shortest path between sensor nodes, maximizing of the life time of a sensor node and minimizing of communication cost, it presents a method for selecting the representative transfer node for an event arising area based on the negotiation scheme and maintaining optimal transfer path using hop and energy information. Finally, for the performance evaluation, we compare the proposed protocol to existing directed diffusion and SPIN protocol. And, with the simulation results, we show that the proposed protocol enhances the performance on the power consumption rate when the number of overall sensor nodes in a sensor network or neighbor sensor nodes in an event area are increased and on the number of messages disseminated from a sensor node.
