Synthesis and Properties of Bio-Thermoplastic Polyurethanes with Different Isocyanate Contents

  • Bio-based polyester polyol was synthesized via esterification between azelaic acid and isosorbide. After esterification, bio-based polyurethanes were synthesized using polyester polyol, 1,3-propanediol as the chain extender, and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, in mixing ratios of 1:1:1.5, 1:1:1.8, 1:1:2, and 1:1:2.3. The bio TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) samples were characterized by using FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), TGA (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis), DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), and GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography). The mechanical properties (tensile stress and hardness) were obtained by using UTM, a Shore A tester, and a Taber abrasion tester. The viscoelastic properties were tested by an Rubber Processing Analyzer in dynamic strain sweep and dynamic frequency test modes. The chemical resistance was tested with methanol by using the swelling test method. Based on these results, the bio TPU synthesized with the ratio of 1:1:2.3, referred to as TPU 4, showed the highest thermal decomposition temperature, the largest molecular weight, and most compact matrix structure due to the highest ratio of the hard segment in the molecular structure. It also presented the highest tensile strength, the largest elongation, and the best viscoelastic properties among the different bio TPUs synthesized herein.

바이오디젤 혼합물의 함량변화에 따른 열적 특성에 대한 실험적인 연구 (Experimental Study on the Thermal Characteristics According to the Content Change of Biodiesel Mixture)

  • 연구목적: 신규로 사용되는 바이오연료를 기존 연료와 혼합하여 사용하는 경우 발생하는 위험성과 물성 변화를 열분석 방법(DSC, TGA)을 사용하여 화학 화재의 원인물질의 위험성을 확인하고, 평가할 방법과 그에 따른 물질의 위험성 관련 데이터를 확보함으로써 화재 원인 감식과 감정에 활용하기 위함이다. 연구방법: 본 실험에 사용된 연구 방법으로는 시차주사열량계(DSC : Differential Scanning Calorimeter)에 의하여 피크의 위치, 모양, 개수, 피크의 면적으로부터 열량 변화의 정량적인 정보를 통하여 열유속 차이(Difference in heat flux)를 측정하였고, 열중량분석(TGA : Analyzer)을 시행함으로써 특정한 온도에서 분해열 등에 의해 발생한 무게 변화를 연속적으로 측정하였다. 연구결과: 먼저 열 유속의 그래프에서 물질의 끓는점과 물질이 가지고 있는 고유 특성치 또는 분해에 필요한 에너지를 확인할 수 있다. 둘째 바이오디젤의 함량이 증가할수록 많은 피크를 확인 할 수 있었다. 셋째 비점이 낮은 물질들이 함유하고 있다는 것을 분석 결과로 확인할 수 있었다. 결론: 현재 새로운 에너지원으로 사용되고 있는 바이오디젤의 위험성을 다양한 물리·화학적 분석기법(DSC+TGA)을 통하여 사용함으로써 물질의 물적 위험성을 평가할 수 있음을 보여주었다. 아울러 본 연구의 시험방법별 차이의 비교와 실험에 대한 노하우를 축적하고 활용한다면 향후 위험물의 물성 연구와 물질 위험성 평가 연구에 있어 도움이 되리라 기대한다.

PE 이중벽관의 맞대기 융착 용접 강도 향상에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Improvement of Butt Welding Characteristic of Polyethylene Pipes)

  • Waste water is disposed to sewage disposal plant by underground PE double wall pipes. Various processes have been introduced to join PE pipes, but most of these methods have many disadvantages such as costs, lack of reliability and difficulties in joining, etc. Recently butt welding has been paid much attention to joint PE pipes as this process has many advantages such as cost, safety and reliability. In this study, newly developed heat plate, a patent-pending heat plate with a groove, was used to butt-weld PE double wall pipes with different misalignment gaps to simulate real underground conditions, and the butt welding temperature of PE pipe was determined by thermal analysis (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis). The resulting joining characteristics of double wall pipes were compared with those from a conventional heat plate, in terms of stiffness, flattening and leakage tests. The results from the stiffness and flattening test showed that there were no big differences between the butt-welded joints made from these two plates. From the leakage test, although PE pipes welded with a conventional heat plate did leak below the required test conditions (10 min. at 0.75kgf/cm2), the pipes welded with a patent-pending grooved heat plate did not show any leakage even at a pressure 1.5 times higher than the required conditions. It was noted that by utilizing a grooved heat plate more complete fusion at the pipe joints could be obtained, which in turn induced a high quality joints.

콘크리트의 사용연한에 따른 중성화의 진행에 관한 실험적 연구 (The Experimental Study on the Progress of Concrete Carbonation According to the Service Life)

  • This study was performed to find out variation of carbonation progress of agricultural hydraulic concrete structures along the used years with using Thermo Gravimetric analysis/Differential Thermal Analysis(TG/DTA) and Indicator(phenolphthalein). In this study some conclusions such as follows were derived. Firstly, The result that the age of structures and the content of $Ca(OH)_{2}\;and\;CaCO_{3}$ in concrete have proportional relationships was found in the method of TG/DTA. This relational functions could be used to estimate remain lifetime of structures, obtaining the limits of the content of $CaCO_{3}$ in concrete which reinforcement corrosion could be occurred with breaking protection cover of alkalinity. Second, if the result of strength, voids, permeability characteristics could be combined with this relational function this may be able to be used as a new more accurate assessment technique for the quality of concrete than current usual methods. Third, environmental affect could be more superintendent for concrete carbonation than the age of agricultural hydration structures. Forth, It is difficult to estimate the used year of agricultural hydraulic concrete structures with the carbonation depth measured by indicator method. Finally, the accuracy of this relational function could be decided to be upgraded with continue analysis for more structures.

  • 지오폴리머의 반응성은 원재료의 구성성분 및 Si/Al비, Na/Al비, 물-결합재비, 비정질 요소 등을 고려하여 명확한 메커니즘을 규명하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 따라서 원재료 및 알칼리 활성화제의 구성성분을 고려한 %Na2O, Ms는 반응성을 결정하는 중요한 요소가 된다. 하지만 다수의 연구에서는 알칼리 활성화제의 농도와 양생 조건 등의 기본적인 요소만을 고려하는 한계점을 나타내고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 %Na2O, Ms 및 고로슬래그 미분말의 혼입량에 따른 지오폴리머 페이스트의 강도특성, 반응열, 길이변화, 미세구조 분석을 실시하였다.

CO2 sequestration and heavy metal stabilization by carbonation process in bottom ash samples from coal power plant

  • Coal-fired power plants supply roughly 50 percent of the nation's electricity but produce a disproportionate share of electric utility-related air pollution. Coal combustion technology can facilitate volume reduction of up to 90%, with the inorganic contaminants being captured in furnace bottom ash and fly ash residues. These disposal coal ash residues are however governed by the potential release of constituent contaminants into the environment. Accelerated carbonation process has been shown to have a potential for improving the chemical stability and leaching behavior of bottom ash residues. The aim of this work was to quantify the volume of $CO_2$ that could be sequestrated with a view to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and stabilize the contaminated heavy metals from bottom ash samples. In this study, we used PC boiler bottom ash, Kanvera reactor (KR) slag and calcined waste lime for measuring chemical analysis and heavy metals leaching tests were performed and also the formation of calcite resulting from accelerated carbonation process was investigated by thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA).

Characterization of Microcapsules for Self-Healing in Polymeric Composites

  • Two different diene monomers [dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) and 5-ethylidene-2-norbomene (ENB)] as self­healing agent for polymeric composites were microencapsuled by in-situ polymerization of urea and formaldehyde. The healing agents were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Exothermic reaction and glass transition temperature from DSC and storage modulus (G') and tan $\delta$ from DMA curves were analyzed for the samples cured for 5 min and 24 h in the presence of different amounts of catalyst. Micorcapsules were successfully formed for both diene monomers. Microcapsules containing the healing agent were manufactured and its thermal properties were characterized by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). Optical microscope (OM) and particle size analyzer (PSA) were employed to observe morphology and size distribution of microcapsules, respectively. Comparison of the two self-healing agents and their microcapsules with the two was made in this study.

22.9kV 수변전설비의 실태 및 계기용변성기 절연커버의 출화특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fire Properties of MOF Insulation Cover and Field Condition of 22.9kV Class Power Receiving System)

  • We studied fire properties of MOF(Metering Out Fit) insulation cover and field condition of 22.9kV power receiving system. $49.5\%$ of formal equipments were installed indoors, whereas $40.8\%$ of informal equipments were installed as H-type. Insulation treatment was not done at a $22.4\%$ ratio of main line($27.7\%$ of transformer, $70.2\%$ of COS, $10.4\%$ of MOF). Fire pattern analysis showed that the fire started at the secondary part of OC wire. In the result of DTA(Differential Thermal Analysis), normal cover showed exothermic reactions at $310^{\circ}C,\;399^{\circ}C\;and\;510^{\circ}C$ (endothermic reactions at $382^{\circ}C$). Whereas damaged cover showed exothermic reactions at $412^{\circ}C$(endothermic reactions at $389^{\circ}C$). In the result of TGA(Thermo Gravimetric Analysis), the thermal weight change of normal cover was similar compared to damaged cover. In the result of FT-IR analysis, normal cover showed absorption peaks at $3,024cm^{-l},\;2,921cm^{-l},\;1,600cm^{-1},\;1,492cm^{-1},\;1,451cm^{-1},\;1,154cm^{-l},\;1,027cm^{-1},\;906cm^{-1}$. Whereas, in case of tracked cover, the absorption peaks that were shown in normal cover disappeared and different absorption peak was shown at $966cm^{-1}$.

백석지(白石脂)의 품질표준(品質標準) 설정(設定)을 위한 약용광물학적(藥用鑛物學的) 연구(硏究) (Mineralogical Studies for the Standadization of the Kaolinitum)

  • Objectives : This study was carried out to characterize the 'Kaolinitum' used as mineral medicine before and after physical and chemical manipulation. Methods : The mineralogy of the original raw kaolinitumes with different localities was identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. The concentrations of major, minor and trace elements of samples, furthermore, measured by the X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). In order to understand the variety of kaolinitum after thermal treatment, the differential thermal analysis (DTA) and the thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) were carried out. Results : According to the result of X-ray diffraction analysis, the kaolinitumes are composed ofcalcite, alunite and quartz. Si and Al are the major ions and heavy metals such as Cd, Cr, Pb, Zn, As, Ni and Cu are included in the kaolinitumes as trace ions. The concentration of these metals in the samples decreased after physical and chemical manipulation. The weight of kaolinitum was also decreased at $500^{\circ}C$ and about $700^{\circ}C$during experiment of TGA. Conclusion : The results of this study can be used to provide the scientific basis of the medical usage of kaolinitum.

High Char-Yield in AN-AM Copolymer by Acidic Hydrolysis of Homopolyacrylonitrile

  • Acrylonitrile (AN)-acrylamide (AM) copolymers were prepared by nitric acidic hydrolysis of homopolyacrylonitrile. The acrylamino group increased as a function of hydrolysis time, while crystallinity decreased. Differential scanning calorimetry and a thermal gravimetric analysis indicated that the acylamino introduced by acidic hydrolysis effectively enhanced the cyclization reaction at low temperature due to the change of the cyclization reaction mechanism. Char-yield of AN-AM copolymers also gradually increased with increasing hydrolysis time. The maximum char-yield was 49.48% when hydrolized at $23^{\circ}C$ in 65% nitric acid solution for 18 h, which was 30% higher than that of non-acidic hydrolysis of homopolyacrylonitrile. Simulation of the practical process also showed an increase of char yields, where the char yields were 55.43% and 62.60% for homopolyacrylonitrile and copolyacrylonitrile, respectively, with a hydrolysis time of 13 h.
