  • Single crystalline silicon wafers having (100), (110), and (111) directions are employed as specimens for obtaining slowness profiles. Leaky Lamb waves (LLW) from immersed wafers were detected by varying the incident angles of the specimens and rotating the specimens. From an analysis of LLW signals for different propagation directions and phase velocities of each specimen, slowness profiles were obtained, which showed a unique symmetry with different symmetric axes. Slowness profiles were compared with elastic moduli of each wafer. They showed the same symmetries as crystal structures. In addition, slowness profiles showed expected patterns and values that can be inferred from elastic moduli. This implies that slowness profiles can be used to examine crystal structures of anisotropic solids.

  • Microarray technology allows the monitoring of expression levels for thousands of genes simultaneously. In time-course experiments in which gene expression is monitored over time we are interested in testing gene expression profiles for different experimental groups. We propose a statistical test based on the ANOVA model to identify genes that have different gene expression profiles among experimental groups in time-course experiments. Using this test, we can detect genes that have different gene expression profiles among experimental groups. The proposed model is illustrated using cDNA microarrays of 3,840 genes obtained in an experiment to search for changes in gene expression profiles during neuronal differentiation of cortical stem cells.

  • Radiative transfer by nongray gas mixtures with nonuniform concentration and temperature profiles were studied by using the statistical narrow-band model and ray-tracing method with the sufficiently accurate $T_{60}$ quadrature set. Transmittances through the nonhomogeneous gas mixtures were calculated by using the Curtis-Godson approximation. Three different cases with different temperature and concentration profiles were considered to obtain benchmark solutions for nongray gas mixtures with nonuniform concentration and temperature profiles. The solutions obtained from this study were verified and found to be very well matched with the previous solutions for uniform gas mixtures. The results presented in this paper can be used in developing various solution methods for radiative transfer by nongray gas mixtures.

  • A motion-control chip contains major functions that are necessary to control the position of each motor, such as generating velocity command profiles, reading motor positions, producing control signals, driving several types of servo amplifiers, and interfacing host processors. Existing motion-control chips can only generate velocity profiles of fixed characteristics, typically linear and s-shape smooth symmetric curves. But velocity profiles of these two characteristics are not optimal for all tasks in industrial robots and automation systems. Velocity profiles of other characteristics are preferred for some tasks. This paper proposes a motion-control chip to generate velocity profiles of desired acceleration and deceleration characteristics. The proposed motion-control chip is implemented with a field-programmable gate array by using the Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language and Handel-C. Experiments using velocity profiles of four different characteristics will be performed.

  • The current profiles in a coated conductor with transport current were calculated using an iterative inversion method from the data of the magnetic flux density profiles measured. The applied current was increased from 0 to 60 A by 10A step and decreased down to -60A by 20A step. The magnetic flux profiles were measured at a distance of 400 mm above the surface of the coated conductor using a scanning hall probe method. The current profiles calculated were very different from the Bean model: current density profile is not a constant in the critical region. However the aspect of the change of the current and magnetic flux density profiles in the case of decreasing applied current are similar to the theoretical calculations in Brandt's paper.

  • As becoming the age of ubiquitous, there are many discussion and publication for standards to express platform profile. These various platform profiles have some problems. The solve these problems, we propose and develop a new posting mechanism which improve the performance of contents adaptation engine by simplifying platform profile and processing various type of platform profiles; we introduce the way to integrate different profiles to solve nut to recognize the profile which is used by different adaptation system and simplify platform profile by grouping the similar attributes of platform profiles. Proposed system can processing different profiles and also the system overhead to processing a profile and creating a dynamic profile has reduced. As a result overall performance of content adaptation system has increased.

  • To investigate the influence of blade profiles on cavitation behavior in impeller of centrifugal pump, a centrifugal pump with five different blade profiles impellers are studied numerically. The impellers with five different blade profiles (single arc, double arcs, triple arcs, logarithmic spiral and linear-variable angle spiral) were designed by the in-house hydraulic design code using geometric parameters of IS 150-125-125 centrifugal pump. The experiments of the centrifugal pump have been conducted to verify numerical simulation model. The numerical results show that the blade profile lines has a weak effect on cavitation inception near blade inlet edge position, however it has the key effect on the development of sheet cavitation in impeller, and also influences the distribution of sheet cavitation in impeller channels. A slight changing of blade setting angle will induce significant difference of cavitation in impeller. The sharp changing of impeller blade setting angle causes obvious cavitation region separation near the impeller inlet close to blade suction surface and much more flow loss. The centrifugal pump with blade profile of setting angle gently changing (logarithmic spiral) has the super cavitation performance, which means smaller critical cavitation number and lower vapor cavity volume fraction at the same conditions.

  • Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the impact of high-fat diets composed of different animal and vegetable fat sources on serum metabolic health markers in Japanese quail, as well as the overall lipid content and fatty acid profiles of the edible bird tissues following significantly increased dietary lipid supplementation. Methods: Fifty seven male quail were divided into six groups and fed either a standard diet or a diet enriched with one of five different fats (22% coconut oil, lard, palm oil, soybean oil, or sunflower oil) for 12 weeks. The birds were subjected to an oral glucose tolerance test following the feeding period, after which they were euthanized and blood, liver, breast, and thigh muscle samples collected. Total fat content and fatty acid profiles of the tissue samples, as well as serum uric acid, triglyceride, cholesterol, total protein, albumin, aspartate transaminase, and total bilirubin concentrations were assessed. Results: High-fat diet feeding had no significant effects on the glucose tolerance of the birds. Dietary fatty acid profiles of the added fats were reflected in the lipid profiles of both the liver and breast and thigh muscle tissues, indicating successful transfer of dietary fatty acids to the edible bird tissues. The significantly increased level of lipid inclusion in the diets of the quail used in the present study was unsuccessful in increasing the overall lipid content of the edible bird tissues. Serum metabolic health markers in birds on the high-fat diets were not significantly different from those observed in birds on the standard diet. Conclusion: Thus, despite the various high-fat diets modifying the fatty acid profile of the birds' tissues, unlike in most mammals, the birds maintained a normal health status following consumption of the various high-fat diets.

  • The objective of this work was to analyze the population of sequence variants of citrus tristeza virus (CTV) isolates in Korea and to make the phylogeny trees of CTV in Korea. We also tried to analyze and find the mild strain of CTV to apply for the cross protection. The CTV isolates from yuzu (C. Junos) collected from different geographic areas of Southern provinces such as Namhae-Do, Kerche-Do, Bosung, Wan-Do and Koheung and Jeju-Bo, Korea were used for SSCP analysis. The SSCP profiles of the cDNAS obtained by RT-PCR with primers specifically designed for the p20 of the CTV population. The SSCP profiles obtained from 150 PCR products in yuzu contained two or three DNA bands, whereas, in some case, others contained four or more bands of similar intensity. The pathologically mild isolates of CTV usually yielded two DNA bands by SSCP profiles, whereas the SSCP profiles of the most virulent isolates contained more than two DNA bands. Plants shown severe stem pitting were corresponded to those plants with typical SSCP profiles of severe strains, and vice versa. This results indicate that the primers designed for SSCP analysis can be used for distinguishing the mild strains from severe strains of CTV.

  • We measured the field profiles, H(x)'s of coated conductors by using scanning Hall probe method when various magnetic fields, $H{_\alpha}'s$ or currents, I's were applied. From the measured field profiles, we calculated the current profiles, J(x)'s by the inversion method. The calculated J(x)'s of coated conductors show some different properties from the standard critical state model. $J{_c}'s$ are inhomogeneous varying with the positions and are not constant when $H_{\alpha}$ or I changes. And when I decreases the features of current reversion are remarkably different from the model.
