Every year new tall buildings are being conceived, designed, and built with new schemes. Thus it is important to explore the factors that affect tall building design. Thus it is important to explore the tall building design factors. The planning and design of tall buildings require different criteria than those that exist in regular size buildings. Tall buildings are uniquely expressed by their structural systems where exterior esthetic and requirements of space drive the form and composition of the structural systems. Therefore the exploration of design factors is the key to achieve optimum building systems. Optimization as mentioned here is associated with the efficiency of the different building systems. To achieve an optimal system, there is a need for an understanding of the factors that affect on overall tall building design such as planning module, building function, lease span, floor-to-floor-height, building height (aspect ratio), structural system, environmental systems. In this paper a statistical approach will be used and will be based on data collected from the practice through a rigorous survey taken. This information is tabulated and analyzed. The major target of investigation will be lease span related to space requirement in the tall building planning. Factors related to lease spans, such as function, floor-to-floor height, planning module, building height, overall plan dimension, and plan ratio (building geometry), will be looked at carefully. IN conclusion, this approach of optimization can introduce a preliminary design guideline for tall building projects. The purpose of the paper should shed some light on the optimum tall building design criteria.
The effect of buildings on flow in urban canopy is one of the most important problems in local/micro-scale meteorology. A large eddy simulation model is used to simulate the flow structure in an urban neighborhood and the bulk effect of the buildings on surrounding flows is analyzed. The results demonstrate that: (a) The inflow conditions affect the detailed flow characteristics much in the building group, including: the distortion or disappearance of the wake vortexes, the change of funneling effect area and the change of location, size of the static-wind area. (b) The bulk effect of the buildings leads to a loss of wind speed in the low layer where height is less than four times of the average building height, and this loss effect changes little when the inflow direction changes. (c) In the bulk effect to environmental fields, the change of inflow direction affects the vertical distribution of turbulence greatly. The peak value of the turbulence energy appears at the height of the average building height. The attribution of fluctuations of different components to turbulence changes greatly at different height levels, in the low levels the horizontal speed fluctuation attribute mostly, while the vertical speed fluctuation does in high levels.
The article represents an experimental investigation on friction and turbulent flow characteristics of free airflow through a rectangular duct fitted with semicircular ribs of uniform height (e = 3.5 mm) on one principle wall. The aspect ratio of the rectangular duct was AR= 5 where the duct height (H) was of 30 mm. Four different rib pitches (P) of 28 mm, 35 mm, 42 mm and 49 mm were used for constant rib height to hydraulic diameter ratio (e/Dh = 0.07) and constant rib height to channel height ratio (e/H = 0.11). The experimental results show some significant effects on pressure drop as well as turbulent characteristics at various configurations among different numbers of rib arrangements varying Reynolds number in the range of 15000 to 30000. Pressure transducer and hot wire anemometer were used for data acquisition of this experiment.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to compare the spatio-temporal gait parameters between paretic and non-paretic limb while stepping over the different obstacle's heights in subjects with stroke. METHODS: Nine subjects with stroke were participated in this study. Subjects were asked to step over obstacles with a different height. 8 camera motion analysis system(Motion Analysis Corporation, Santa Rosa, USA) was used to measure spatio-temporal parameters. The two way repeated measurement ANOVA was used to compare spati-temporal gait parameters between paretic and non-paretic limbs while stepping over a different obstacle's height(0cm, 10cm, 20cm). RESULTS: Step width, velocity, single supoort time, and double support time were not different among obstacle's height(p>0.05) but stride length, step length, and cadence were significantly different(p>0.05). In stride length, cadence, and double support time, the interactions between obstacle's heights and limbs were not different(p>0.05) but it was significantly different in velocity, step length, and single support time(p<0.05). Velocity, stride length, cadence, and double support times were not different between paretic limb and non-paretic limb(p>0.05) but step length and single support times were significantly different between paretic limb and non-paretic limb(p<0.05). CONCLUSION: These results show that there are differences with spatio-temporal gait parameters among obstacle's heights and between paretic and non-paretic limb during obstacle crossing in subjects with stroke.
This paper presents an optimization method to determine the shoulder height of an angular contact ball bearing by 3D contact analysis using nondimensional-shaped variables. The load analysis of the ball bearing is performed to calculate the internal load distributions and contact angles of each rolling element. From the results of bearing load analysis and the contact geometry between the ball and inner/outer raceway, 3D contact analyses using influence function are conducted. The nondimensional shoulder height and nondimensional load are defined to give the generalized results. The relationship between the shoulder height and radius of curvature of the shoulder under various loading conditions is investigated in order to propose a design method for the two design parameters. Using nondimensional parameters, the critical shoulder heights are optimized with loads, contact angles, and conformity ratios. We also develop contour maps of the critical shoulder height as functions of internal loads and contact angles for the different contact angles using nondimensional parameters. The results show that the dimensionless shoulder height increased as the contact angle and dimensionless load increased. Conversely, when the conformity ratio increased, the critical shoulder height decreased. Therefore, if the contact angle is reduced and the conformity ratio is increased within the allowable range, it will be an efficient design to reduce the shoulder height of ball bearings.

PURPOSE: This study compared the activities of the trunk muscles during crutch walking to determine which of the crutch length measurements is most beneficial. METHODS: Twenty young women volunteered to participate in this study. After adjusting crutch length, the participants performed a three-point walking with nondominant leg limited in weight bearing. This study used six crutch length measurements: (1) Height-40.6cm, (2) Height'.77, (3) Olecranon-to-finger length, (4) Axillary-toheel length, (5) Arm-span length-40.6cm, and (6) Arm-span length'.77. The EMG activities of the internal oblique (IO), rectus abdominis (RA), multifidus (MF), and erector spinae (ES), muscles on the weight bearing side were monitored using wireless surface EMG. RESULTS: The EMG activities of the RA and ES appeared to be significantly different among the crutch length measurements (p<.05). The post-hoc test showed that the 'Arm-span length-40.6cm' was significantly greater in the RA activity when compared to the 'Height'.77' and 'Axillary-to-heel length' measurements, and in the ES activity when compared to 'Height'.77' measurements. Furthermore, IO/RA and MF/ES ratios showed significant differences among the crutch length measurements (p<.05). In the post-hoc test, significant difference was observed between 'Olecranon-to-finger length' and 'Arm-span length-40.6cm' for the IO/RA ratio, and between 'Height'.77' and 'Olecranon-to-finger length' and between 'Height'.77' and 'Arm-span length-40.6cm' measurement for the MF/ES ratio. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the 'Height'.77' measurement is relatively advantageous to optimize the activities of trunk muscles during the crutch walking, and allow simple measurements of the crutch length.

It is very important to minimize the die roll height of gear, in order to maximize the shear cutting surface(tooth surface) of fine blanking. In this paper, the fine blanking tool sets were manufactured in order to study the die roll height according to V-ring position and die chamfer shape. They were constituted of the various die inserts and guide plate inserts with different die chamfer shape and different V-ring distance. The fine blanking experiment was conducted with the fine blanking tool sets and the die roll height of the gear samples was measured. It should be noted that die roll height on the fine blanked gear increased with increasing the V-ring distance and die chamfer angle.
Statement of problem: Currently, there are some 20 different geometric variations in implant/abutment interface available. The geometry is important because it is one of the primary determinants of joint strength, joint stability, locational and rotational stability. Purpose: As the effects of the various implant-abutment connections and the prosthesis height variation on stress distribution are not yet examined this study is to focus on the different types of implant-abutment connection and the prosthesis height using three dimensional finite element analysis. Material and method. The models were constructed with ITI, 3i TG, Bicon, Frialit-2 fixtures and solid abutment, TG post, Bicon post, EstheticBase abutment respectively. And the super structures were constructed as mandibular second premolar shapes with 8.5 mm, 11 mm, 13.5 mm of crown height. In each model, 244 N of vertical load and 244 N of $30^{\circ}$ oblique load were placed on the central pit of an occlusal surface. von Mises stresses were recorded and compared in the crowns, abutments, fixtures. Results: 1. Under the oblique loading, von Mises stresses were larger in the crown, abutment, fixture compared to the vertical loading condition. 2. The stresses were increased proportionally to the crown height under oblique loading but showed little differences with three different crown heights under vertical loading. 3. In the crown, the highest stress areas were loading points under vertical loading, and the finish lines under oblique loading. 4. Under the oblique loading, the higher stresses were located in the fixture/abutment interface of the Bicon and Frialit-2 systems compared to the ITI and TG systems. Conclusions: The stress distribution patterns of each implant-abutment system had difference among them and adequate crown height/implant ratio was important to reduce the stresses around the implants.

Many workers like welders work in squatting postures with the object on the ground during an entire work shift. It is suspected that such prolonged squatting without any supporting stool would gradually cause musculoskeletal injuries to workers. This study is to examine the physical stress caused by the prolonged squatting and to recommend a safe work/rest schedule for a welding task with squatting posture based on the lab experiments. In this study, 8 healthy student subjects participated in the experiment. They maintained a squatting work posture for 16 minutes with 4 different stool height conditions: no stool; 10cm height; 15cm height; and 20cm height. Every 2 minutes, the discomfort was subjectively assessed with the magnitude estimation method for the whole body, lower back, upper leg and lower leg. Based on discomfort ratings, we found that a 10cm height stool relieved the workload most. Discomfort rating results also indicated that a 20cm height stool showed the highest workload, and the there were no difference in workload between a 15cm height stool and no stool. We recommend to use low height stools and to maintain such working postures no longer than 6 minutes for prolonged squatting tasks.

This study reports numerically the characteristics of dust scattering around the coal storage pile yards, substantially affected by the windbreak wall height. The dust scattering is closely associated with the frictional effect of wind flows as well as the pressure variation that consequently affect the dust particle behavior. In the present study, with the use of the commercial code of FLUENT, the distribution of wind velocity and pressure are predicted around coal storage pile yard for four different heights of the wind break wall. From the results, it was found that for the case 1 with the outer windbreak wall height of 3 m and inner windbreak wall height of 6 m, the amount of scattering dust for a year was estimated to be 1451 kg, whereas for the case 4 where a height of outer windbreak wall is 10 m and a height of inner windbreak wall is 16 m, the amount of scattering dust for a year was 358 kg. It shows that the dust scattering can be reduced by 75%, indicating important role of windbreak wall height on particle scattering. The numerical results would be useful in decision of the appropriate height of windbreak wall for decreasing the amount of scattering dust under various environmental conditions.
