The corrosion failure of electronic devices has been a major reliability concern lately. This failure is an ongoing concern because of miniaturization of integrated circuits (IC) and the increased use of polymers in electronic packaging. Recently, plasma-polymerized cyclohexane films were considered as a possible candidate for a interlayer dielectric for multilever metallization of ultra large scale integrated (ULSI) semiconductor devices. In this paper the protective ability of above films as a function of deposition temperature and RF power in an 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution were examined by polarization measurement. The film was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and contact angle measurement. The protective efficiency of the film increased with increasing deposition temperature and RF power, which induced the higher degree of cross-linking and hydrophobicity of the films.

Ferroelectric europium-substitution $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ thin films were fabricated by spin-coating onto a Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate. The $Bi_{3.25}Eu_{0.75}Ti_3O_{12}$ (BET) films have polycrystalline structure annealed at 700 C. We investigated that the influence of $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ thin films by substituting for Bi ions with Bi ions using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From the XPS measurement, it was suggested that the stability of the metal-oxygen octahedral should be related to substitute for Bi ions with Eu ions at annealed $800^{\circ}C$. The BET thin films showed a large remanent polarization (2Pr) of $60.99C/cm^2$ at an applied voltage of 10 V. The BET thin films exhibited no significant degradation of switching charge at least up to $5{\times}10^9$ switching cycles at a frequency of 50 kHz.

High dielectric (Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$ thin films were etched in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) as a function of C1$_2$/Ar gas mixing ratio. Under Cl$_2$(20)/Ar(80), the maximum etch rate of the BST films was 400$\AA$/min and selectivities of BST to Pt and PR were obtained 0.4 and 0.2, respectively. We investigated the etched surface of BST by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). From the result of XPS analysis, we found that residues of Ba-Cl and Ti-Cl bonds remained on the surface of the etched BST for high boiling point. The surface roughness decreased as Cl$_2$ increases in Cl$_2$/Ar plasma because of non-volatile etching products. This changed the nature of the crystallinity of BST. From the result of XRD analysis, the crystalliility of etched BST film maintained as similar to as-deposited BST under Ar only and Cl$_2$(20)/Ar(80). However, (100) orientation intensity of etched BST film abruptly decreased at Cl$_2$ only plasma. It was caused that Cl compounds were redeposited on the etched BST surface and damaged to crystallinity of BST film during the etch process.
The Thermally Stimulated Current(TSC) spectroscopy has been applied to study the influence of the structual cahange and interface on the electrical properties of epoxy composites. Three DGEBA-MeTHPA matrix model samples mixed different ratios and silica($SiO_2$) filled sample and silaln treating-filled sample has been studied. Above room temperature, the relaxation mode $\alpha$ peak associated with Tg has been located at $110^{\circ}C$. Below glass transition temperature(Tg), three relaxation modes are observed in all samples: a $\beta$ mode situated at $10^{\circ}C$, a $\gamma$ mode located at $-40^{\circ}C$ and a $\delta$ mode appeared in $-120^{\circ}C$. The analysis of its fine structure indicates that constitution of elementary processes is characterized by the activation energy and relaxation time. Also the dielectric relaxation properties have been investigated to compare the the change of the molecular structure and motion to the relaxation properties and conduction mechanism in TSC spectra.
In this paper, ITO gate electrode surface was modified using $O_2$ plasma and organic gate insulating layers were deposited on the ITO surface using plasma polymerization technique. In order to investigate the influence of the plasma coupling method and plasma conditions on the plasma polymerized methyl methacrylate (ppMMA) thin film properties, inductively coupled (ICP) and capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) were used to generate the plasma and the plasma parameters were varied. The ppMMAs were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and a Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Dielectric constants of the ppMMA thin films were investigated using a impedance analyzer (HP4192A, LF Impedance Analyzer). Current-Voltage (I-V) characteristics of the organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) were investigated using a source measurement unit (SMU: Keithley 2612). Proposed method can be applied to dry-process to fabricate OTFTs during overall fabricating steps.

Magnesium oxide is thermodynamically very stable, has a low dielectric constant and a low refractive index, and has been widely used as substrate for growing various thin film materials, particulary oxides of the perovskite structure. There has been a considerable interest in integrating the physical properties of these oxides with semiconductor materials such as GaAs and Si. In this regard, it is considered very important to be able to grow MgO buffer layers epitaxially on the semiconductors. Various oxide films can then be grown on such buffer layers eliminating the need for using MgO single crystal substrates. Vapor phase epitaxy of magnesium oxide has been accomplished on Si(001) substrates in a high vacuum chamber using the single precursor methylmagnesium tert-butoxide in the temperature range 750-80$0^{\circ}C$. For the epitaxy of the MgO films, SiC buffer layers had to be grown on Si(001). The films were characterized by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) in situ in the growth chamber, and x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray pole figure analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) after the growth.

Oxide-based thin film transistors have been attempted as powerful candidates for driving circuits for active-matrix organic light-emitting diodes and transparent electronics. The oxide TFTs are based on the amorphous multi-component oxides involving zinc, indium, and/or tin elements as main cation sources. The current work employed RF sputtering in order to deposit zinc-tin oxide thin films applicable to transparent oxide thin film transistors. The deposited thin film was characterized and probed in terms of materials and devices. The physical/chemical characterizations were performed using X-ray diffraction, Atomic Force Microscopy, Spectroscopic Ellipsometry, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The thin film transistors were fabricated using a bottom-gated structure where thermally-grown silicon oxide layers were applied as gate-dielectric materials. The inherent properties of oxide thin films are combined with the corresponding device performances with the aim to fabricating the multi-component oxide thin films being optimized towards transparent electronics.

Hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorods were synthesized with various Sn contents on quartz substrates, ranging from 0 to 2.5 at% in increment 0.5 at%. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ultraviolet (UV)- visible spectroscopy were used to determine the effect of Sn doping on the structural and optical properties. In the SEM images, the nanorods have hexagonal wurzite structure and the diameter of the nanorods increase with increase in the Sn contents. The optical parameters of the Sn-doped ZnO nanorods such as the absorption coefficients, optical bandgaps, Urbach energies, refractive indices, dispersion parameters, dielectric constants, and optical conductivities were gained from the transmittance and reflectance results. In the PL spectra, the NBE peaks in the UV region decrease and blue-shift with increase in the Sn contents. In addition, the DLE peaks in the visible region of the nanorods shift toward low-energy region when the ZnO nanorods doped with various Sn contents.
Metamaterials operating in the terahertz frequency range show promising potential for use in highly sensitive microbial sensors that are capable of effectively detecting microorganisms in the ambient environment. We were able to detect extremely small numbers of microorganisms by measuring the differential transmission spectra (DTS) of the metamaterial resonances. This was possible because their sizes are on the same scale as the microgaps of the terahertz metamaterials. DTS depend critically on the number of microorganisms placed in the gap area, and their dielectric constant. In addition, these metamaterial microbial sensors are reusable, because the microorganisms can be completely removed by fungicide solution. Finite-difference time-domain simulations successfully reproduce our experimental data.

In this paper, solution based Indium Zinc Oxide thin film transistors (IZO TFTs) were fabricated with PVP gate dielectric. To enhance the electrical properties, UV-O3 treatment is proposed on solution based IZO TFTs. The gate leakage current and interface trap density is compatible with conventional ZnO-based TFT with inorganic gate insulator. Especially, the UV-treated device shows improved electrical characteristics compared to the untreated device. These results can be explained by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, which shows that the oxygen vacancy of UV-O3 treatment is higher than that of no treatment.
