Permittivity Characteristic Analysis of Planar Substrates Using H-shaped Resonant Aperture (H-모양 공진 개구를 이용한 평면 기판의 유전율 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, a method for analyzing the dielectric constant of a planar substrate is proposed. To this end, a band-stop filter was created by adding a H-shaped resonant aperture to the ground plane of a microstrip transmission line. A planar substrate of 2 mm thickness was placed behind the ground plane of the microstrip transmission line and the change of the resonant frequency with the change of the dielectric constant of the substrate was investigated. It can be seen that the change ratio of the frequency to the reference resonant frequency is larger than that of the conventional complementary split ring resonator structure.

A Hybrid Resonant Mode Identification using Non-decaying Mode Analysis in Dielectric Loaded Cylindrical Cavity Resonators (비소멸 모드 해석을 이용한 유전체 삽입 원통형 공동 공진기 하이브리드 공진 모드 구분)

  • A rigorous field analysis by the non-decaying mode and the contour graph method is presented for dielectric-rod loaded cylindrical cavity resonators. Resonant frequencies and the lowest order modes for this resonator are calculated. The mode charts are presented to design the resonators. TE mode(transverse electric or H mode, having no Ez), TM mode(transverse magnetic or I mode, having no ㎐) and HEM mode(hybrid electromagnetic mode, having non-zero Ez and ㎐) are analyzed in detail using non-decaying mode method. The mode charts are completed. The validity of the theory is confirmed by experiments. The results were on the whole satisfactory. Experimental measurements show excellent agrement with the numerical results. The average error of TE, TM, and HEM mode is about 0.20 %, 0.14 %, and 0.28 %, respectively.

Microwave Measurement of Complex Permittivity of Dielectric Resonators (초고주파 유전체공진기의 복소유전율 측정)

  • A theoretical analysis and measurement technique to determine the complex permittivity and permeability of cylindrical and ring type dielectric resonators is given. The resonant frequency, unloaded quality factor and physical dimensions of dielectric resonator placed between two parallel conducting plates are used to evaluate the complex permittivity and permeability. This process is repeated for other higher-order modes to expand the evaluation at higher resonant frequencies. The nature of each mode is identified by measuring the variations of field strength along the azimuthal and longitudinal direction. An error analysis taking into account various error sources reveals that $TE_{0np}$ or quasi-TE modes yield the least amount of measurement error, which is less than $0.5{\%}$for the real part, $4{\%}$for the imaginary part of complex permittivity.

An Active Tunable Bandpass Filter Design for High Power Application (고출력 특성을 고려한 능동 가변 대역 통과 여파기 설계)

  • In this paper, a high power active tunable bandpass filter made of dielectric resonators and varactor diodes is designed using the active capacitance circuit generating negative resistance for tuning cellular TX, RX band. An active capacitance circuit's series feedback circuit using GaAs HFET whose $P_{1dB}$ is 32 dBm is used for compensating the losses from the varactor diodes of the tunable bandpass filter. The tuning elements, the varactor diodes are used as the back-to-back configuration to achieve the high power performance, The designed active capacitance circuit improves the insertion loss characteristics. The designed 2-stage active tunable dielectric bandpass filter at cellular band can cover from 800 MHz to 900 MHz. The insertion losses at 836 MHz and 881.5 MHz with 25 MHz bandwidth are 0.48 dB and 0.39 dB, respectively. The $P_{1dB}$ of the designed bandpass filter at TX and RX band are measured as 19.5 dBm and 23 dBm, respectively.

A study on Ba$(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics resonator for Nonradiative Dielectric waveguide (비방사유전체선로에 삽입되는 Ba$(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ 세라믹스 공진기에 관한 연구)

  • 5 mol% $BaWO_4$를 첨가시켜 합성한 Ba$(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$를 이용하여 비방사유전세선로에 삽입되는 세라믹스 공진기를 제자하고 기존의 $MgTiO_3-CaTiO_3$계 세라믹스 공진기와 공진특성을 비교하여 그 특성을 고찰하였다. 그 결과 BMT 세라믹스는 기존의 $MgTiO_3-CaTiO_3$계 세라믹스보다 품질계수가 2배 이상 크게 높게 측정되었고, 측정 사진의 관찰 결과 전파차단성도 우수할 것으로 예상되기 때문에 BMT가 비방사유 전체선로에 삽입되는 유전체 공진기 재료로서 적용될 경우 우수한 공진특성을 발휘할 것으로 판단된다.

  • The conventional geometry of a plate microstrip resonator is made up of a single metallic patch, which is printed on a monolayer dielectric substrate. Its arrangement is simple and easy to make, but it is limited in its functional abilities. Many searches have been realized to improve the bandwidth and the gain of the microstrip resonators. Among the various configurations proposed in the open literature, the stacked geometry seems to be very promising. By appropriate design, it is able to provide the operation in dual frequency mode, wide bandwidth enough and high gain. The theoretical investigations of structures composed of two stacked anti-reflection coatings, enhanced metallic coatings are available in the literature, however, for the stacked configurations involving three metallic coatings or more, not to exact or approximate analysis was conducted due to the complexity of the structure.

Front-to-Back Ratio Improvement of a Microstrip Patch Antenna Loaded with Soft Surface Structure in a Partially Removed Ground Plane

  • This study presents a new, simple method for improving the front-to-back (F/B) ratio of a microstrip patch antenna. The back radiation of the microstrip patch antenna is reduced by removing some metallic parts around the ground plane and placing a new soft-surface configuration, consisting of an array of stand-up split-ring resonators on a bare dielectric substrate near the two ground plane edges. Compared to the F/B ratio of a conventional microstrip patch antenna with a full ground plane of the same size, our proposed microstrip patch antenna experimentally achieves an improved F/B ratio of 9.6 dB.

  • 본 논문에서는 SPD(Sampling Phase Detector)를 이용한 위상고정 방법의 무선 CATV용 위상 고정 유전체 공진 발진기(PLDRO)를 설계·제작하였다. 이 발진기는 하이브리드 형태인 12.875 GHz의 VCDRO(Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator)와 완충 증폭기, 방향성 결합기, 주파수 체배기, 샘플링 위상 검출기, 루프 필터, 기준 주파수 발진기, VHF 증폭기로 구성되어 있다. 위상 고정 유전체 공진 발진기의 발진출력은 25.75 GHz에서 1.17 dBm, 기본주파수 억압 -27.83 dBc로 안정된 위상고정 상태를 나타내었다. 이때의 위상잡음은 -101.7 dBc/Hz @ 100KHz로 측정되었다.

  • In this paper, the band pass filter was designed and constructed for personal communication services of information facilities. For the band pass filter design, after dielectric resonator structures were analyzed. J-inverter design theory and its simulation method were studied. The parameters obtained from design theory were practically applied to filter construction. The simulation results are well agreed with the measured result of constructed filter after fine tunings.

  • In this paper, a small band pass filter is designed using new probe type for wireless communication system. In order to provide a band pass filter which can be reduced in dimension, can be reduced in height, and can be surface-mounted. The filter was fabricated using $TE_{01{\delta}}$ mode dielectric resonator. The input/output probes are attached to coner portion of the rectangular metal cavity. Results of the manufactured filter$(12{\times}12{\times}8mm)$ show that the center frequency is 9.953GHz, the insertion loss is -2.98 dB, the 3dB-bandwidth is 15 MHz, and the lode Q is 663.
