  • The scattering characteristics are analysed for the dielectric cylinder with arbitrary cross section partially covered by thin conductors. The integro differential equations consistant with boundary conditions of conductor and dielectric boundaries are derived by the equivalence principle. They are transformed into matrix equations by moment method. The circular dielectric cylinder covered by conductors at the upper and bottom side of the cylinder is chosen for the numerical example. Current distributions on conductors and scattering cross section by the cylinder are computed for incident wave perpendicular to the conductor plane.

  • This paper presents an examination of theoretical scattering models for radar cross sections (RCS) of lossy dielectric cylinders, such as exact analytical solution, low frequency approximation (Rayleigh) and high frequency approximation (Physical Optics). The validity regions of the PO and Rayleigh models are closely examined with exact solution in terms of various wavelengths and dielectric constants of a circular cylinder. And also this paper examines the PO and Rayleigh models for back and forward scatter RCS of a cylinder at various incidence angles and polarizations. It was found that the PO and Rayleigh model have their validity regions for estimating the RCS of a circular cylinder.

  • The acattering characteristics by the TE incident wave are analysed for its dielectric cylinder with arbitrary cross section partially covered by thin conductors. The integro differential equations consistent with boundary conditions of conductors and dielectric boundaries are derived by the equivalence principle. They are transformed into matrix equations by moment method. The rectangular dielectric ctlinder partially coverd by conductors at the upper and bottom side of the cylinder is chosen for the numerical example. Current distributions on conductors and sacttring cross sections by the cylinder are computed for the TE incident perpendicular to the conductor plane.

  • In this paper, using the principle of duality between the spatial and spectral domain, we proposed a new microwave imaging technique of a coherent tomographic formulation in the spatial domain and reconstructed the image of dielectric cylinder through simulation and experiment. The numerical and experimental results for the variety o object size, relative dielectric constant have shown the limitation of Born approximation to be used and the effect of retrieved images for various signal bandwidth.

  • Thrust force induced by the dielectric barrier discharge inside of cylinder pipes is measured for various conditions. The input peak-to-peak voltage and frequency are varied from 2 to 9 kVpp and from 5 to 15 kHz, respectively. The height of cylinder is varied from 50 to 100 mm. The results of the measurements show that the magnitude of the generated thrusts increases as the voltage and the frequencies increase. It also shows that the generated thrusts are decreased according to the increase in the height of the cylinder. The cause of the thrust decrease is discussed in terms of energy losses due to the frictions on the wall surface.

  • The previous RST postulates that the scattering field, within each modal partial wave, comprise of the resonance and the background components. The new RST is recently developed by the product expansion of the scattering functions in the field of acoustics. The new formulation suggests that the scattering coefficients consist of resonance, non-resonance, and their interactional portions. In the scattering problems of acoustic waves, the moduli and phase of the resonance coefficient are obtained correctly by the new RST. In our recent works the new RST was successfully applied to the scattering problem of electromagnetic waves for coated conducting cylinder and sphere. In this paper, the new RST is extended to the 2-dimensional scattering problem of electromagnetic waves for a homogeneous dielectric cylinder, and the numerical results are compared with the previous RST.

  • When the cylindrical wave is incident on a plane dielectric interface from a denser medium to a rarer one, the asymptotic solution for the transmitted wave in the near region is different from the one in the far region. In this paper, we have derived a novel uniform asymptotic solution represented by using the parabolic cylinder function for the transmitted and scattered waves observed in the rarer medium when the cylindrical wave is incident on the plane dielectric interface from the denser medium. The validity of the uniform asymptotic solution has been confirmed by comparing with the reference solution calculated numerically. It has been clarified that the transition wave plays an important role to connect smoothly the asymptotic solution in the near region to the one in the far region through the transition region. We have shown the very interesting phenomenon that the lateral wave type transmitted wave is observed in the far and shallow region.

  • Analytic series solution for the problem of transverse magnetic (TM) scattering by an elliptic dielectric cylinder loaded slot is presented for an electric line source illumination. The solution is based on using matching functions and mode matching technique (MMT) and it converges very fast.

  • The scattered electric field from a multilayered circular dielectric cylinder is caculated. Approximate boundary condition used in on-surface radiation boundary condition(OSRC) method has been applied to all the boundary surface of N-layered dielectric cylinder. It was assumed that scattered electric field at inner boundary surface in one region transmitted to the adjacent region at outer boundary surface. In the whole region, the unknown coefficients of electric field are acquired by the given incident electric field with ease. Electric field distribution at each boundary surface and the scattered electric field in free space are taken with the calculated unknown coefficients. the results obtainted were compared with those results that were used by regular surface boundary condition.
