Experimental approach was investigated to improve gear rattle noise of a small car. During the development of a small car serious problem occurred inside the transmission gear units. The transmission was a carried over system from a less powered predecessor. Several components of suspicion were investigated, and applied to reduce rattle noise. In general, backlash, the assembly gaps, and the clutch disk rattle induce gear rattle noise. Above mentioned improvements were applied to reduce the noise, but still problem remained. Meanwhile, the temperature inside the gearbox was reported to be unusually high and the life of transmission oil quality deteriorated drastically, Temperature increment caused the large gap between the bearing outer diameter and the transmission housing. Large gap made the gear shaft assembly move intermittently and impact each other. The tighter control of the assembly gap allowed the rotating shafts smoothly and reduced the gear rattle noise even in the high temperature range.

Flow over a bluff body is an attractive research field in thermal engineering. In the present study, laminar flow over a confined heated square cylinder using CuO-Water nanofluid is considered. Unsteady two-dimensional Navier-Stokes and energy equations are solved numerically using finite volume method (FVM). Recent correlations for the thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluids, which are function of nanoparticle volume fraction, temperature and nanoparticle diameter, have been employed. The results of numerical solution are obtained for Richardson number, nanoparticle volume fractions and nanoparticle diameters ranges of 0-1, 1-5% and 30-100 nm respectively for a fixed Reynolds number of Re = 150. At a given volume concentration, the investigations reveal that the decreasing in size of nanoparticles produces an increase in heat transfer rates from the square cylinder and a decrease in amplitude of the lift coefficient. Also, the increment of Nusselt number is more pronounced at higher concentrations and higher Richardson numbers.

Flying trajectories of fine particles within a size range of $10{\sim}60{\mu}m$ were studied during centrifugal atomizing processes. A FORTRAN program was written by using increment method. Calculation results revealed that the drag force might reach very high value of 522-7800 g for fine powder of $10{\sim}60{\mu}m$. Flying distance in horizontal direction could be shortened if the particles fly obliquely due to the huge drug force. On the other hand, very fine powder could be projected to far distances when the atmosphere flow velocity is much stronger. Fortunately such particles could be contracted within a cylinder closed to the atomizer when the atmosphere flow was weaken or retained in a limited diameter.

Tube erosion can be defined as a phenomenon for an increment of bore diameter, a declination of accuracy and utility of tube by firing. This study introduces the characteristics of tube life for the 155 mm K9 SHP Using a tube history book with bore measurement data and firing data of standard charge, this study analyzed the EFC vs Tube life and EFC with heat transfer effect formula as a consideration of continuous firing vs tube life. The results were compared with Firing Table(FT 155-K9-1) after the analysis. Also, this study suggests that CN98 tube can be rifled as 1000 EFC through the severe condition with continuous firing.
Shielding effects in conductive and magnetic materials were investigated as a function of properties, thickness and diameter. In this work, evaluations on passive conductive and magnetic shield specimens were achieved through experimentation set-up using 50 Hz single and three phase induction field sources. Analysis on material microstructure properties and characteristics of shielding specimens were performed with the use of vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). An induction field at $136{\mu}T$ of single phase system and $50{\mu}T$ of three phase systems were observed to the shield specimens with the thickness ranged of 0.2 mm to 0.4 mm. It is observed that shield specimen efficiency becomes inversely proportionate to the increment of induction fields. The decrease was attributed to the surface structure texture which relates to the crystallization and non-crystallization geometrical effects.
This experiment was carried out to find out proper soil acidity (pH) that can enhanced ornamental worth and marketability on flowerpot cultivation of Saxifraga stolonifera. It was treated 3 replications of randomized complete block design to pH 4.5, 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. Soil was used peatmoss and young plant of Saxifraga stolonifera planted at 10cm pot of diameter. It was investigated to growth characteristics at intervals of twenty days after planting. On the growth characteristics at different soil acdity (pH) of Saxifraga stolonifera, It was many growth increment of plant width, plant height, leaf length and leaf width on pH 4.5, but was remarkably reduced growth increment on a higher soil acidity (pH). Therefore, Saxifraga stolonifera was showed the best growth when planted at soil of $pH4.5{\sim}5.0$.
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of light intensity on the growth of Korean white pine (Pinus koraiensis) seedlings. The seedlings were grown under four different relative light intensities: 100%, 63%, 37%, and 19% of full sunlight by covering with saran screen on seed bed. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. The highest shoot elongation was found at 37% in relative light intensity (RLI) plot, and the best growth in root, seedling length and diameter increment appeared at 100% on RLI plot. Contribution rates of shading to growth in shoot elongation, root growth, seedling length, and diameter increment were 9.3%, 26.2%, 21.0%, and 48.7%, respectively. 2. The greatest number of one-year-old needle fascicle was found at 100% in RLI plot, whereas that of two-year-old needle fascicle appeared at 37% in RLI plot. The contribution rate of the light intensity to number of needle fascicle was 3.9% and factor of leaf age contributed to number of needle fascicle in 27.8%. The length of needles grown under different light intensities varied with needle ages. The longest length of new needles appeared at 37% in RLI plot, but old needles were not clear in influence of light intensity. The contribution rate to needle length by the light intensity was 2.5%. 3. The heaviest value of the fresh and dry weight of seedlings appeared at 100% of RLI plot then decreased with light intensity. The contribution rates to fresh and dry weight by the shading were 38% and 7.6% respectively. 4. The largest value of the dry weight of needles appeared at 100% of RLI plot and then decreased with light intensity. The contribution rates to dry weight of needles by the light intensity was 13.18%. 5. The values of T/R ratio increased with decreased light intensity and the contribution rate was 7.0%. 6. Positive correlation and linear regressions were recognized between dry weight of leaf and other factors (dry weight of shoot, root, seedling and diameter increment).

Climate change affects all biological processes in terrestrial ecosystems including photosynthesis, plant growth and productivity. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of experimental warming on the growth of Quercus variabilis seedlings. One-year-old Q. variabilis seedlings were planted in control and warmed plots in April 2010. The air temperature of warmed plots was increased by $3^{\circ}C$ compared to control plots using the infrared lamp from November 2010. Shoot height and root collar diameter were measured in March 2011 and June 2012, respectively, and aboveground and belowground biomass were also measured in March 2011 and 2012, respectively. Shoot height and root collar diameter were significantly higher in warmed plots than in control plots, except for root collar diameter in March 2011. Increment (mm) of shoot height and root collar diameter were also higher in warmed plots ($529{\pm}30$, $5.6{\pm}0.5$) than in control plots ($464{\pm}28$, $4.5{\pm}0.4$). However, there were no significant differences between warmed and control plots except for root collar diameter. Increment (g/year) of total, aboveground and belowground biomass were higher in warmed plots ($36.88{\pm}6.52$, $11.91{\pm}3.44$, $24.97{\pm}3.73$) than in control plots ($30.59{\pm}5.51$, $8.73{\pm}1.66$, $21.86{\pm}3.88$), however, the differences were not statistically significant. Higher seedling growth and biomass of warmed plots might be related to the enhanced net photosynthetic rates in spring and the extended growing season.
In this study the stem analysis program, which can be operated with personal computer was developed to reduce time and cost of calculation, and to increase accuracy of analysis. The stem analysis method used in this program was compared with other methods. The results obtained were as follows : The value, 1/100mm measured from the latest annual ring measurement machine (Jahrringme${\beta}$geraete Johan Type II) was automatically inputed to the computer and saved into given file name. Turbo Pascal program was written to do this. The measured data was analyzed by stem analysis calculation program written by Fortran-77. Volume and height increments were approximated by spline function, and diameter of the stem disk was calculated by quadratic mean method. The increment values calculated by the programs were printed annually and in every five-year. Stem analysis diagram and several increment graphs were also easily printed. The result compared between those analysis methods showed that quadratic mean could reduce the error caused from eccentric pith. When the stem taper curve method, approximated by spline function, was used in the calculation of tree height and volume, increments would be more exactly calculated.

Total phosphorous removal rate was examined of a subsurface-flow treatment wetland system which was constructed on floodplain in the down reach of the Kwangju Stream in Korea from May to June 2001. Its dimensions were 29 meter in length, 9 meter in width and 0.65 meter in depth. A bottom layer of 45 cm in depth was filled with crushed granite with about 15~30 mm in diameter and a middle layer of 10 cm in depth had pea pebbles with about 10 mm in diameter. An upper layer of 5 cm in depth contained course sand. Reeds(Phragmites australis) were transplanted on the surface of the system. They were dug out of natural wetlands and stems were cut at about 40 cm height from their bottom ends. Water of the Kwangju Stream flowed from a submerged dam into it via a pipe by gravity flow and treated effluent was funneled back into the Stream. The number of reed stems increased from 80 stems/$m^2$ in July 2001 to 136 stems/$m^2$ in September 2001. The hight of stems was 44.2 cm in July 2001 and 75.3 cm in September 2001. The establishment of reeds at early operating stage of the system was good. Volume and water quality of inflow and outflow were investigated from July 2001 through December 2001. The average inflow was 40 $m^3$/day and hydraulic detention time was about 1.5 days. The concentration of total phosphorous n influent and effluent was 0.83 and 0.33 mg/L, respectively. The removal rate of total phosphorous averaged about 60%. The removal efficiency was slightly higher, compared with that of subsurface-flow wetlands operating in North America, whose retention rate of total phosphorous was reported to be about 56%. The good abatement rate could be attributed to sedimentation of particle phosphorous in pores of the media and adsorption of phosphorous to the biofilm developed on the surface of them. Increase of standing density of reeds within a few years will develop root zones which may lead to increment in the phosphorous retention rate.
