  • This paper examines the recent changes of urban center in metropolis in terms of land use. Jung-Gu, Daegu City is analyzed for a case study, and publicly notified individual land price data of 2000 and 2011 are used as analysis materials. The analyzing results show that a lot of residential land uses diminished in urban center, but residential function is still significant despite such decrease. Commercial land uses also decreased. Office land uses increased, but the increase is insignificant. On the contrary, unused or miscellaneously used land increased considerably. The phenomena implicate that land uses in the urban center are not positive under the influence of inner city decline. Overall, more land use changes occurred in the frame than in the core of urban center. That is, land uses in the core is more stable than them in the frame. However, decreasing commercial land uses in the core is noticeable, comparing to the frame. Mixed land uses for residence and commerce are most deconcentrated and office land uses most concentrated. Mean center point and standard deviation distance of land uses did not change significantly from 2000 to 2011, despite considerable change of land uses. The finding reveals that land use changes are widely occurring in urban center.

  • Mines are an important infrastructure for securing resources, but safety problems can arise in the course of operation. Recently, the mining process is very complicated due to the large scale and mechanization. Therefore, it is necessary to construct accurate geospatial information on mine for systematic and safe mine operation. The geospatial information construction using the existing total station has a disadvantage that a lot of work time is required because the target must be collimated and measured. In this study, the data of the mines were acquired with the total station and the 3D laser scanner, and the mine spatial information was constructed by using the shape based registration method. By using the static scanner data of some area applying the reference point surveying result of the total station, it was possible to construct the accurate result on the wide area acquired by the mobile scanner effectively. Also, the accuracy of the constructed geospatial information was evaluated and the deviation of mean 0.083m was shown. Point cloud products constructed through the research can contribute to the efficiency improvement of mine management by enabling quantitative analysis such as visualization of mine shape, distance, area and slope, and automation of drawing creation for cross section shape.

  • This study is aimed at assessing whether dynamic wedge filters are appropriate to be used instead of physical wedge filters. The X-ray energy generated from linear accelerator is commercialize 6 MV and 10 MV. $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$ of physical wedge filter was irradiated by dose rate 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 MU/min for each angle and for comparison with a dynamic wedge filter, irradiate 96 times under the same conditions. The measurement conditions are as 100 cm source-film distance and $10{\times}10cm$ irradiated surface. A developed film was scanned and analyzed after a calibration through a dose analysis program and the dose rate was compared after calculating the standard deviation. Dynamic wedge filters make dose, scattered rays and treatment time reduced and very useful due to less irradiated doses to patients. The errors at each dose rate under the same conditions were irrelevant. Thus, treatment based on a high dose rate depending on the patient is expected to be feasible.

  • This paper developed the algorithm for improving the performance the auto pilot in the autonomous vehicle system consisting of the Track keeping control, the Automatic steering, and the Automatic mooring control. The automatic steering is the control device that could save the voyage distance and cost of fuel by reducing the unnecessary burden of driving due to the continuous artificial navigation, and avoiding the route deviation. During the step of the ship autonomic navigation control, since the wind power or the tidal force could make the ship deviate from the fixed course, the automatic steering calculates the difference between actual sailing line and the set course to keep the ship sailing in the vicinity of intended course. first, we could get the transfer function for the modeling of ship according to the Nomoto model. Considering the maneuverability, we propose it as linear model with only 4 degree of freedoms to present the heading angle response to the input of rudder angle. In this paper, the model of ship is derived from the simplified Nomoto model. Since the proposed model considers the maximum angle and rudder rate of the ship auto pilot and also designs the Fuzzy controller based on existing PID controller, the performance of the steering machine is well improved.

  • A method of instrumentally estimating seismic intensity (MMI) based on the Fourier Acceleration Spectrum of earthquake ground-motion, the so-called 'FAS MMI method' of Sokolov and Wald (2002), was evaluated for its applicability to Korea based on the empirical models of mean (m) and standard deviation (${\sigma}$) for Korea according to individual seismic intensity for MMI ${\leq}$ IV (Yun et al., 2009). This evaluation showed that the error in estimating the seismic intensity using the FAS MMI method is ${\sigma}$ = 0.74 MMI, and was further reduced to ${\sigma}$ = 0.61 MMI if the dependency of the error on earthquake magnitude and distance is additionally corrected. It is also shown that FAS MMI based on the FAS semi-empirically evaluated from small earthquakes for damaging earthquakes in Korea with maximum MMI ${\geq}$ VI could predict the observed MMI with the maximum error of 0.63 by using the combined FAS m-${\sigma}$ models of Korea for MMI ${\leq}$ IV and global region for MMI ${\geq}$ V.

  • Object-based classification methods provide a valid alternative to traditional pixel-based methods. This study reports the results of an object-based classification to examine land cover in the demilitarized zones(DMZs) of Inje-gun. We used land cover classes(7 classes for main category and 13 classes for sub-category) selected from the criteria by Korea Ministry of Environment. The average and standard deviation of the spectrum values, and homogeneity of GLCM were chosen to map land cover types in an hierarchical approach using the nearest neighborhood method. We then identified the distributional characteristics of land cover by considering 3 topographic characteristics (altitude, slope gradient, distance from the Southern Limited Line(SLL)) within the DMZs. The results showed that scale 72, shape 0.2, color 0.8, compactness 0.5 and smoothness 0.5 were the optimum weight values while scale, shape and color were most influenced parameters in image segmentation. The forests (92%) were main land cover type in the DMZs; the grassland(5%), the urban area (2%) and the forests (broadleaf forest: 44%, mixed forest: 42%, coniferous forest: 6%) also occupied mostly in land cover classes for sub-category. The results also showed that facilities and roads had higher density within 2 km from the SLL, while paddy, field and bare land were distributed largely outside 6 km from the SLL. In addition, there was apparent distinction in land cover by topographic characteristics. The forest had higher density at above altitude 600m and above slope gradient $30^{\circ}$ while agriculture, bare land and grass land were distributed mainly at below altitude 600m and below slope gradient $30^{\circ}$.

  • While high-definition precipitation maps with a 270 m spatial resolution are available for South Korea, there is little information on geospatial availability of precipitation water for the famine - plagued North Korea. The restricted data access and sparse observations prohibit application of the widely used PRISM (Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model) to North Korea for fine-resolution mapping of precipitation. A hybrid method which complements the PRISM grid with a sub-grid scale elevation function is suggested to estimate precipitation for remote areas with little data such as North Korea. The fine scale elevation - precipitation regressions for four sloping aspects were derived from 546 observation points in South Korea. A 'virtual' elevation surface at a 270 m grid spacing was generated by inverse distance weighed averaging of the station elevations of 78 KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) synoptic stations. A 'real' elevation surface made up from both 78 synoptic and 468 automated weather stations (AWS) was also generated and subtracted from the virtual surface to get elevation difference at each point. The same procedure was done for monthly precipitation to get the precipitation difference at each point. A regression analysis was applied to derive the aspect - specific coefficient of precipitation change with a unit increase in elevation. The elevation difference between 'virtual' and 'real' surface was calculated for each 270m grid points across North Korea and the regression coefficients were applied to obtain the precipitation corrections for the PRISM grid. The correction terms are now added to the PRISM generated low resolution (~2.4 km) precipitation map to produce the 270 m high resolution map compatible with those available for South Korea. According to the final product, the spatial average precipitation for entire territory of North Korea is 1,196 mm for a climatological normal year (1971-2000) with standard deviation of 298 mm.

  • In this study, the application of the single beam echosounder and multi beam echosounder was analyzed for the Youngsan river, from the Juksanbo to the Juksan bridge, length of 840m, width 230m and area $0.16km^2$. A single beam echosounder and a multi beam echosounder are mounted on an USV (Unmanned Surface Vessel), and each data is acquired. Then, TIN (Triangular Irregular Network) is created and the grid depth of 10m intervals is extracted. The grid depth of the single beam echo sounder and the grid depth of the multi beam echo sounder were overlapped to compare the two data. As a result of analysis using 5,024 data, the mean depth difference was 0.0319m and the standard deviation was 2.4095m. The river bed shape was similar to each other. If the multi-beam echo sounder is regarded as the standard, the volume difference of the stream is $161,882m^3$. With a multi-beam echo sounder installed, the operating distance increased by approximately 55% to 4595.85m, and the operating time increased by approximately 59% to approximately 47%.

  • Reckless development of the underground by rapid urbanization causes inspection delay on replacement of existing structure and installation new facilities. However, frequent accidents occur due to deviation in construction design planned by inaccurate location information of underground structure. Meanwhile, the electrical resistivity survey, knowns as non-destructive method, is based on the difference in the electric potential of electrodes to measure the electrical resistance of ground. This method is significantly advanced with multi-electrode and deep learning for analyzing strata. However, there is no study to quantitatively assess change in electrical resistance according to geometric conditions of structures. This study evaluates changes in electrical resistance through geometric parameters of electrodes and structure. Firstly, electrical resistance numerical module is developed using generalized mesh occurring minimal errors between theoretical and numerical resistance values. Then, changes in resistances are quantitatively compared on geometric parameters including burial depth, diameter of structure, and distance electrode and structure under steady current condition. The results show that higher electrical resistance is measured for shallow depth, larger size, and proximity to the electrode. Additionally, electric potential and current density distributions are analyzed to discuss the measured electrical resistance around the terminal electrode and structure.

  • The fleshy shrimp, Fenneropenaeus chinensis, is the family of Penaeidae and one of the most economically important marine culture species in Korea. However, its genetic characteristics have never been studied. In this study, a total of 240 wild F. chinensis individuals were collected from four locations as follows: Narodo (NRD, n = 60), Beopseongpo (BSP, n = 60), Chaesukpo (CSP, n = 60), and Cheonsuman (CSM, n = 60). Genetic variability and the relationships among four wild F. chinensis populations were analyzed using 13 newly developed microsatellite loci. Relatively high levels of genetic variability (mean allelic richness = 16.87; mean heterozygosity = 0.845) were found among localities. Among the 52 population loci, 13 showed significant deviation from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. Neighbor-joining, principal coordinate, and molecular variance analyses revealed the presence of three subpopulations (NRD, CSM, BSP and CSP), which was consistent with clustering based on genetic distance. The mean observed heterozygosity values of the NRD, CSM, BSP, and CSP populations were 0.724, 0.821, 0.814, and 0.785 over all loci, respectively. These genetic variability and differentiation results of the four wild populations can be applied for future genetic improvement using selective breeding and to design suitable management guidelines for Korean F. chinensis culture.
