Development of Thermal Error Model with Minimum Number of Variables Using Fuzzy Logic Strategy

  • Thermally-induced errors originating from machine tool errors have received significant attention recently because high speed and precise machining is now the principal trend in manufacturing proce sses using CNC machine tools. Since the thermal error model is generally a function of temperature, the thermal error compensation system contains temperature sensors with the same number of temperature variables. The minimization of the number of variables in the thermal error model can affect the economical efficiency and the possibility of unexpected sensor fault in a error compensation system. This paper presents a thermal error model with minimum number of variables using a fuzzy logic strategy. The proposed method using a fuzzy logic strategy does not require any information about the characteristics of the plant contrary to numerical analysis techniques, but the developed thermal error model guarantees good prediction performance. The proposed modeling method can also be applied to any type of CNC machine tool if a combination of the possible input variables is determined because the error model parameters are only calculated mathematically-based on the number of temperature variables.

  • Surface roughness is widely used as an index for processing degree of accuracy. Recently, regression analysis to predict the machining results are actively used to characterize a cutting operations. In the past, diamond machining had been used for ultra precision cutting operation, but now industrial diamond tools like PCD(Polycrystalline Diamond) have been widely used in ultraprecision machining of nonferrous metals. In this study, the authors focus on the effect of PCD tool property on the surface roughness of Al5083 aluminum alloy after cutting process by CNC operated lathe. Based on the regression analysis approach on a surface roughness data obtained by experiment, predictive analysis of surface roughness is effective to achieve better surface quality.

  • Composite material is combined with two or more chemical ingredient and different components. FRP has been widely used for the structure of aircraft, ships, automobiles, sporting goods and other machines because of their high specific strength, high specific stiffness and excellent fatigue strength. Recently, the development of machine tool and cutting tool greatly relies on high speed process to satisfy high precision, high efficient machining, shortened process time to maximize material removal rate (MRR) through high cutting speed and feed speed. The research molded CFRP, GFRP as stacking sequence methods of two direction (orientation angle $0^{\circ}\;and\;0^{\circ}/9^{\circ}$) hand lay-up, drilled molded plates using cemented carbide drill and examined chip shapes, surface roughness properties.

  • On-machine measuring system of Numerically Control(NC) machines permit computer control of basic material cutting processes of moulds. A part of mould designed within a CAD/CAM system can be manufactured by generation of tool paths by the measuring systems. Since the three-dimensional geometry by AutoCAD of the part is contained in the data base, the manufacturing specialist combined with the appropriate software simulation, can not only create the commands to drive the virtual measuring and standardization of measuring modules but also can check for mistakes by viewing the computer graphics simulation of the tool cutting sequence.

  • When function modeling with IDEF0 which is called as a standard methodology for CALS (FIPS 183), the initial work is to determine the purpose and viewpoint, and the next work is to generate a data list and an activity list. This work requires participant's discussion and agreements. The main problems for these working are a communication between participants and efficient discussion processing. Brainstorming is the most useful method for this work. The paper is for development for the modeling assistant tool to promote the business modeling. In this paper, we will introduce the tool which name is 'MindMapper' and 'Dyna-IDEF'. Mind-mapper is software for mind-map method that is used for creative thinking. Using this tool, we refine the result of the brainstorming about activity list and translate the result into the functional model of IDEF0 using Dyna-IDEF. The translated functional model is prototype model without ICOM arrows.

  • System integration is an important element for the construction of naval combat ships. In particular, because impeccable combat system integration together with the sensors and weapons can ensure the combat capability and survivability of the ship, the integrated performance of the combat system should be verified and validated whether or not it fulfills the requirements of the end user. In order to conduct systematic verification and validation, a data analysis tool is requisite. This paper suggests the Data Extraction, Recording and Analysis Tool (DERAT) for the data analysis of the integrated performance of the combat system, including the functional definition, architecture and effectiveness of the DERAT by presenting the test results.

  • The recent manufacturing industry in Japan has found it difficult to transfer skills from trained workers to inexperienced workers because the former ages and then retires. This is a particular problem for lathe process, as this operation requires explicit and tacit knowledge, and defining the skills clearly in a manual is difficult. This study aims to develop a training system for lathe operation by using a simulator; this includes formulas that help define the relationship between the speed of tool feed and cutting sound/shape of chips which were proposed in the preceding study. The developed training system is verified the effectiveness.

  • Chip breaker of cutting tool is an important feature to enhance cutting performance. Powder injection molding process was used to produce a triangular-shape cermet grooving insert which has three chip breakers. Attrition milled cermet powders were mixed with wax-based binder system in continuous twin screw extruder. Three-plate injection mold with slide cores was used to produce injection-molded parts. After molding, solvent and thermal debinding was carried out. Sintering was conducted in a batch furnace with a graphite heater. The sintered parts satisfy the requirements of dimensional tolerances and material properties.

  • git에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있는 요즘 각종 업계에서 Version Control System을 사용하는 인원들은 git을 svn보다 복잡하다고 생각한다. 물론, 전문적인 소프트웨어 개발자라면 컴퓨터 시스템에 대한 이해가 높기 때문에 이에 별로 구애받지 않을 수도 있다. 하지만, 그 외 디자이너, 학생과 같이 전문 개발자가 아닌 인원들은 git을 이해하기 어려워하고 있다. git을 처음 접하는 인원들이 어려움을 느끼는 이유는 개념의 이해와 명령어 사용이었는데, 이들에게 git 사용을 보다 편안하게하기 위한 git GUI tool 개발을 위한 모델을 제안을 한다.

  • Embedded systems are used in many fields such as home appliances, terminals, controls, communications, etc. So, to manage, control, and test these embedded systems, monitoring programs have been developed variously. In this paper, to overcome the characteristic faults of embedded systems which have resource restrictions, we implemented a development environment based on NFS and designed a monitoring tool that can evaluate and analyze kernel performance in embedded equipment by using LTT(Linux Trace Toolkit). Also, we designed a method to show monitoring data collected by using a monitoring tool, called MONETA 2.0, through the web-page.
