This paper discusses the strategies for the future qf the Hong Kong Port and Buasn Port. We assess whether they prepare the ports for the position of being the logistics hub, and as such could assist the ports to maintain their position in the world's container port. We reviewed both the current situation qf the Hong Kong Port and the strategy of the port for the future (Master Plan 2020) to keep the status of logistics hub. With the case study on the Port of Hong Kong, this study attempts to examine what the strategic planning is needed for the Busan Port. We debate the Port of Busan could be seen as a logistics chain for the future. In our discussion, the strategic planning on "Port Vision 2020" for Port of Busan does not address the issues regarding this part, nor does it make any recommendations in terms of the requirement of the logistics private sector.

The application of computer model to the port and harbor development is categorized in the field of port development policy, economic analysis and evaluation, civil engineering analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, evaluation of social and natural environment effect, etc. The study in this paper, however, is limited to hydrodynamic analysis, especially the analysis of water wave propagation and response to the shore structure due to the construction and implementation of shore boundary, the mathematical formulation of the numerical model is established systematically based on the hybrid Element Method and applied to solving the wave refraction, diffraction and radiation problems for a circular basin, the artificial beach or lagoon in terms of coastal zone development.

Gwangyang port has aimed to establish and expand infrastructure since 2004 as a way of logistics industry development plan for activation of port and increase in traffic. However, it faces many changes due to reduced development of Gwangyang port, slowdown of traffic, and decrease in terminal operators. The need for review of plan and direction regarding infra is on the rise at this point for the purpose of ensuring the stable growth foothold of Gwangyang port and attaining independence of Port. This report focuses on the software infrastructure improvement alternative rather than hardware infrastructure. To analyze the priority of this alternative, AHP technique was applied as a research methodology. In this study, as a measure for decision-making, profitability, ease, urgency, and prospects have been selected, and alternatively, buildup of global networking, training of logistics professionals, operation of environment-friendly & low cost port, and development of specialized logistics companies have been selected. Survey has been conducted toward shipping companies which use Gwangyang port, port operators, hinterland logistics companies and consignor' logistics professionals. As a result of survey, the priorities of measuring range were shipping companies, port operators, consignor, and hinterland logistics companies. Meanwhile, the priorities of measuring elements were profitability, prospects, urgency and then ease. The priorities of alternatives were found to be a buildup of global networking, operation of environment-friendly & low cost port, development of specialized logistics companies and training of logistics professionals.

With development of Asia's economy, the ports in trunk route have increased its handling capacity According to previous studies, main determinants to become hub-port are referred to location, connection inland transport with hinterland, port service availability and efficiency, cost of port handling, socio-economic stability and port information system etc. This study aims to investigate the changes in factors determine port's competitiveness particularly in Asian neighbor ports such as Hong Kong port and Shenzen port, and Singapore port and the Port of Tanjung Pelapas in Malaysia by comparing and analyzing main indicators relating to those ports. In conclusion, main reasons which gained competitiveness by newly developed ports such as Shenzen port and the Port of Tanjung Pelapas were port price and massive hinterland space offered.

The study analyzed the current status of fisheries port market and presented the direction of developments. The fisheries port market has become increasingly widespread due to the aging of the facilities and the scale of the fish product trade, and the number of distribution workers has also increased. The problems of fisheries port market are as follows. First, the transaction structure was changed as the proportion of aquaculture products increased. Second, the trading structure has changed, but it has failed to keep pace with the changes in the production structure. Third, the volume and amount of fish traded in aquaculture products and fish stocks increased. As a result, the growth rate of the fisheries port market is decreasing and profitability is deteriorating. The development direction of the fisheries port market is as follows. First, it is necessary to standardize the fisheries port market facilities, according to the type of fish products. Second, it needs to diversify its trade targets such as processed fish products and imported fish products. Third, it is necessary to diversify the business of the fisheries port market in order to increase profitability.

This paper is designed to look for a specialized strategies by drawing the special features of Busan New Port from both a comparative analysis of major factors of harbor competitiveness and a SWOT analysis of Yangshan Port, one of the biggest competitive ports in Northeast Asia, so that Busan New Port may preoccupy a status as the hub port of the area. The researcher would like to suggest the following measures to make Busan New Port serve as the central port of Northeast Asia on the basis of the findings; Korea should push ahead with creating a railroad transportation linking with Eurasia Contient, secure the amount of goods and resources with the help of the early development of the surrounding complex of the port, make a considerable progress in the level of port service, come up with a differentiation strategies for harbor marketing activities and improve its productivity.

This study evaluated the results of a questionnaire survey taken by visitors and residents likely to be directly or indirectly affected by a proposed fishing village and port development in the Busan region. The questionnaire focused on various potential effects that the development would have on the local community and on ways to improve the development process, as well as on the priorities of such investment and the direction the development should take. Our goal was to determine the sentiments of the local citizenry regarding the proposed fishing village and port development in the Busan region.

The objective of this study is to review the methodology of economic analysis of fishing ports by examining the economical feasibilities of a national fishing port (Jeongja Port) in Ulsan. This study utilized market value evaluation method to measure the benefits and costs related to the development of ports. The benefit variables are income effects resulting from the developments while the cost variables are sum of construction costs and maintenance costs. The income effects are measured in two ways: (1) income from individual project resulting from the developments, (2) the income effects by utilizing investment multipliers. The results shows that the BC ratio (Benefits/Costs) of Jeongja port by using (1) income from individual project resulting from the developments was 1.07 while the BC ratio by using (2) the income effects by utilizing investment multipliers was 1.10 due to a relative short period of useful life for investment multipliers. However, the income variable utilizing investment multipliers is more sensitive to the period of duration than the income variable from individual project.

On the other hand, considering competitive environment & swelling of Chinese Economic scale, the structural reforms are imperative in korea. Korea have to convert the traditional sects into new high added value sects. In these trends, provincial government also should look for the plan for reinforcement of Regional competitiveness. The focus of this study is to look for the reinforcement methods on regional competitiveness of Gyeongnam Provincial Government. First, competitive industries in Gyeongnam, and second, Masan Free Trade Zone will be surveyed from data. Finally, the effects of New Hub port developing in Pusan-Jinhae will be discussed.

The purpose of this paper is to present some main economic factors which influence Gaza Seaport. Without direct access to the international market, the Palestinian economy will continue its dependence on Israeli economy mainly in employment, transport facilitation, and international trade. The greatest potential for Palestinian economic growth lies in trade. The port is important for creating new job opportunities, and for enhancing exporting capabilities, which are the most essential elements for development of the Palestinian economy. Israeli policies and procedures incur Palestinian exporters additional transportation costs when delivering their products to Israeli Ports or when transit these products to neighboring countries through Israeli controlled area. The public profit for the port is greater than the private profit. Therefore, constructing the port will have a great effect on the Palestinian economy. There are many challenges facing the port, some of them are the political stability, the economies of scale, and Israeli security measures and procedures.
