  • Reverse electrodialysis (RED) is a technique to produce electricity from two feed water that has different salinity. Recently, RED has been considered the attractive technology because this new process has large global potential and possibility to generate energy from abundant but largely unused resources. To make RED an economically attractive technology, the optimization of operation condition should be developed. In this study, we investigate the relation of internal resistance to power density of RED. And the effect of sea water and fresh water flow rate on power density was confirmed. To minimize the internal resistance and to increase power density of RED, the ratio of sea water and fresh water flow rate was optimized. Experimental result show the best performance with $1.30W/m^2$ of power density at 1.7 flow ratio of seawater/freshwater.

  • Ductile shear zones developed in Jurassic granites in the Yonggwang area show NE trend at the eastern part and nearly EW trend at the western part, respectively. Judged from shear sense indicators, they have resulted from dextral strike-slip movement. The intersection of both trends is thought to be due to the truncation and offset of NE shear zone Chonju Shear zone by the brittle Yonggwang fault which runs in near EW direction with sinistral movement sense. The simple shear deformation was predominate through the deformation in this ductile shear zone. Based on this deformation mechanism, the shear strain (${\gamma}$) estimated in domain 1 increases from 0.14 at the shear zone margin to 9.41 toward the center of shear zone. Total displacement obtained only from this measured section(JK 59 to JK14) appecars to be 1434.5 meters. The sequential development of microstructures can be divided into three stages; weakly-foliated, well-foliated and banded-foliated stages. In the weakly-foliated stage dislocation glide mechanism might be predominant. In the well-foliated stage grain boundary migration and progressive misorientation of subgrains was remarkable during dynamic recovery and recrystallization. In the banded-foliated stage grain boundary sliding and microfracturing mechanisms accompanied with crushing and cracking were marked. According to strain analysis from quartzites of the metasedimentary rocks, strain intensity (${\gamma}$) of the samples within the ductile shear zone ranges from 2.7 to 5.7, while that of the samples out of the ductile shear zone appears to be about 1.7.

  • In this study, stability of the new gabion system with vegetation base materials was analysed. New gabion system with vegetation base materials is a new approach which has been developed to achieve lope stabilization and revegetation of forest road cut-slope by making the best use of advantages of gabion systems with vegetation base materials. Results from stability analysis are as follows. For the soil density, the angle of internal friction and unit weight of the rock fill was assumed to be $1.90g/cm^3$, $30^{\circ}$ and $2.30t/m^3$, respectively, the slope stability analysis showed that the new gabion system couldn't require any poles to fix it up, and could keep stable during both rainy and dry seasons. As the results of checks against overturning and sliding, the retaining wall with. the new gabion system could produce suitable factors of safety for overturning and sliding. Vegetation established on the surface of the new gabion systems indirectly can help to increase slope stability by prevention of surface erosion. Consequently, the new gabion system with vegetation base materials could achieve the desired effect on slope stabilization as much as existing gab ion system could do, and could promote rapid establishment of vegetation on cut-slopes.

  • In this study, we developed a method to assess quantitatively the amount and the economic value of water quality regulating service of ecosystem services. Numbers of species and aquatic organisms such as fish increased because of the improved water, but it was due to complex factors such as water quality regulation services of ecosystems, installation of environmental facilities for water quality treatment, and water quality regulation. Therefore we sought ways to quantitatively estimate the value of ecosystem regulation services. In this study, we propose a method to estimate the quantitative value of water quality regulation service of ecosystem by utilizing the total amount of water pollution. In addition, the economic value evaluation method was proposed by multiplying the estimated the quantitative value of water quality regulation service of ecosystem by the unit cost per unit capacity. Finally, the ecosystem water quality regulation service was estimated by using the evaluation method for BOD and T-P in Nakdong river watershed.

  • Since most domestic apartment, built in bearing wall system limiting variability of space, in spite of its good durability, cannot accept life style change and is being wasted, dumped scraps of which cause environmental pollution and waste of resources. As a response for this, researches on sustainable housing, that is, 'long-life housing' which has high durability, and variability responding life style change of the resident are in progress in and out of country. Therefore, this article aims, in suggesting the various status appearing on apartment and the interior plan responding the problem, to research on the house plan in the future which can be used continuously instead consuming type of apartment shortly used and discarded with understanding of long-life housing developed in foreign countries, and grasping the factors of application plan. Various reports from previous researches were comparatively analyzed and the studies on the characteristics, the real examples and the types of the surfaces were performed on the experimental model of long-life housing and similar residential surfaces to find the concept to be applied to Long-Life Housing and the introduction method of such concept. This article tries not only to prevent 'scarp and build', the serious cause of environmental pollution, but also to be basic materials for interior construction plan afterwards through 'long-life housing interior design plan' as the new conception which can accept life style and life cycle change.

  • The geology of the Tumbang Lapan area consists of Permian to Carboniferous metamorphic rocks, Cretaceous granitic rocks, and Permian to Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic rocks. Three faults are developed in surveyed area, and are functioned as channels of the hydrothermal solution which farmed quartz veins within tuff3. In the mineralized area, argillic and propylitic alterations are dominant. Argillic altered rocks show the alteration mineral assemblages of kaolinte+sericite+quartz+chlorite+pyrite. Mineral association in propylitic alteration is chlorite+epidote+feldspar+quartz+pyrite+ magnetite. Vein type, fracture filling, stockwork are observed in survey area. As a result of analysis of samples from quartz veins and altered rocks, some mineralized rocks showed $0.01\~4.6g/t$ of gold.

  • Soil aquifer treatment is a water reuse technology that secondary or tertiary treated wastewater is infiltrated into the aquifer in which physical and biochemical reactions occur. Major consideration in SAT is the removal and transport of DOC and nitrogen species. In this study, reaction mechanism in SAT was examined considering nitrification, denitrification and organic oxidation. In addition, SAT modeling system was developed as the reaction mechanism was applied to groundwater flow and transport model. In verification of the reaction module by 1-dimensional unsaturated soil column test, the experimental data of all of the species, ammonium, nitrate, DOC and DO, were well matched with the simulation results. In sensitivity analysis, ammonium partition coefficient, dissolved oxygen inhibition constant and biomass decay rate affect ammonium, DOC and DO concentration of effluent, respectively.

  • For imaging complex subsurface structures such as salt dome, faults, thrust belt, and folds, seismic prestack reverse-time migration in depth domain is widely used, which is performed by the cross-correlation of shot-domain wavefield extrapolation with receiver-domain wavefield extrapolation. We apply the prestack reverse-time migration, which had been developed at KIGAM, to the seismic field data set of Block 5 in Jeju basin of Korea continental shelf in order to improve subsurface syncline stratigraphy image of the deep structures under the shot point 8km at the surface. We performed basic data processing for improving S/N ratio in the shot gathers, and constructed a velocity model from stack velocity which was calculated by the iterative velocity spectrum. The syncline structure of the stack image appears as disconnected interfaces due to the diffractions, but the result of the prestack migration shows that the syncline image is improved as seismic energy is concentrated on the geological interfaces.

  • In modem petroleum reservoir engineering, the characterization of reservoir heterogeneities is very important to accurately understand and predict reservoir production performance. Formation evaluation for the description of reservoir is generally conducted by performing the analysis of well logging, core testing, and well testing. However, the measured data points by well logging or core testing are in general very sparse and hence reservoir properties should be interpolated and extrapolated from measured points to uncharacterized areas. In assigning the data for the unknown points, simple averaging technique is not feasible as optimum estimation method since this method does not account the spatial relationship between the data points. The main goal of this work is to develop PC-version of multi-purpose geostatistical model in which several stages are systematically proceeded. In the development of model, the simulator employs a automatic selection of semivariogram function such as exponential or spherical model with the best values of $R^2$. The simulator also implements a special algorithm for the fitting of semivariogram function to experimental sernivariogram. The special algorithm such as trial and error scheme is devised since this method is much more reliable and stable than Gauss-Newton method. The simulator has been tested under stringent conditions and found to be stable. Finally, the validity and the applicability of the developed model have been studied against some existing actual field data.
