Purpose - Among the various pricing approaches used to set fares for express trains, this study explores a method of utilizing a customer-based pricing approach. The purpose of this study is to figure out how to apply the customer-based pricing approach to fares of new railway services using express trains. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was conducted through a literature review and case studies. In the literature review, we examined three approaches, focusing on the customer-based pricing approach and its application. In the case studies, we show how a customer-based pricing approach can be applied to determining the fares for railway services. Result - Some studies have used a customer-based pricing approach to set railway service rates, adapting the concepts of customer-based pricing such as demand, elasticity, value and willingness to pay. When setting fares of new railway services, it is recommended to use the customer-based approach in conjunction with other pricing approaches. Conclusion - This study demonstrates that a customer-based pricing approach is a promising tool in making decisions on railway fares. By applying a customer-based pricing approach to fares for new railway services using express trains, railway operators can utilize new service rates and increase the profitability of the railway business.

This study tried to suggest a new direction of rail freight pricing in Korea. Determinant factors of rail freight fare are collected and pricing principles are introduced. Marginal social costs are to be fare of rail freight in theory and those costs should be estimated in the near future. From the market pricing of North American rail freight carriers we can find a direction of future pricing and from the EU efforts to estimate social marginal costs we can also find research agenda.

관광지역 내 궤도교통수단 요금은 사업 타당성 판단의 중요한 변수가 되는 요소이다. 기존 운영자 위주의 요금 결정에서 벗어나, 이용자 측면까지 동시에 고려된 요금을 산출함으로써 운영자와 이용자를 동시에 만족시키는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 대상은 인천광역시 중구 월미도 일대를 순환하는 월미은하레일이다. 본 연구에서는 요금의 적정 범위를 판단하기 위해 운영자 비용과 이용자 비용을 최적화하는 모형을 구축하였다. 최적화된 모형을 활용하여 각 변수의 값을 산출한 결과, 정류장 간격은 0.532km, 운행 간격은 0.206시, 정류장 수는 12개소, 운행 대수는 3대로 도출되었다. 이렇게 도출된 변수들을 활용하여 이용자가 지불해야하는 최소요금과 운영자가 징수해야 하는 최소요금을 산출하고, 이를 근거로 요금의 적정범위를 분석한 결과 최소 1,261원에서 최대 5,063원인 것으로 분석되었다. 관광교통수단의 경우 정류장 자체가 관광지 내에 위치하므로 모형 적용시 접근거리 감소폭이 매우 적어 접근비용의 변화폭이 미미하다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다.

Competition between air transportation and railways has grown fiercer in major countries around the world with the rise of high-speed railways. In South Korea, air passenger travel has been rapidly decreasing since the initial launch of the Seoul-Pusan KTX line in 2004 and second opening that followed in 2010. Further expansion of the high-speed railway is expected. At present, research efforts to verify the validity of constructing an underwater express railway tunnel between Ho-nam and Jeju Island are taking place. Considering the possible high speed railway connection between Seoul and Jeju Island, this thesis has analyzed the choice behavior of existing passengers of the major and low-cost carriers. For this, Stated Preference (SP) research has been performed for three variables, including fare, travel time and the number of runs, to estimate the substitution rate of each of the three variables. Binomial Logit Model has been estimated with the obtained data. The estimation of the model has found that airline passengers of major and low-cost carriers are willing to pay approximately 7,200 KRW and 5,000 KRW, respectively, to reduce travel time by one hour. If the number of runs in one day increases, it has been estimated that the passengers are willing to pay additional fares of about 390 KRW and 30 KRW, respectively. On the other hand, the substitution rate between the number of runs and the travel time was found to be somewhat insignificant. If the construction of the Seoul-Jeju line progresses in the future, this study could be used as preliminary data for determining fares, travel time and the number of runs.

부산광역시는 대중교통이용활성화정책의 하나의 방안으로 2007년부터 버스준공영제를 실시하였다. 준공영제 실시 후 노선개편과 요금제도 개선 등의 효과로 인해 일정기간 동안 버스이용객은 증가하였지만 다시 이용객이 감소하고 있는 추세이다. 이는 시스템적인 측면의 개선을 통해 가져올 수 있는 효과만으로는 시내버스 이용증가에 한계가 있다는 것을 시사한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 시내버스 이용을 증가시키기 위하여 새로운 방안이 필요하다고 판단되어 친절서비스 향상 방안에 대해 분석을 실시하였다. 부산광역시 시내버스이용자와 운전자에게 16가지 친절서비스항목에 대해 설문을 진행하여 분석하였으며 주요 내용은 다음과 같다. 시내버스이용자와 운전자를 대상으로 친절서비스 항목에 대한 중요 정도를 판단하는 분석을 실시한 결과 친절서비스를 유지강화 해야 할 분야, 점진적으로 개선해나가야 할 분야, 향상을 위해 권장해야 할 분야, 그리고 집중적으로 개선해나가야 할 분야로 분류되었다. 상기 4가지 친절서비스 분야에 대한 업체별 차이를 파악하고자 부산광역시 시내버스 33개 업체를 대상으로 군집분석을 실시 한 결과 4개의 군집으로 나누어졌으며 친절서비스에 대해 높은 중요도를 보이는 2개의 군집(14개 업체)과 낮은 중요도를 보이는 2개의 군집(19개 업체)으로 분류되었다. 또한 4개의 친절서비스 분야가 군집 간에 유의한 차이를 보이는지 살펴보기 위하여 다변량 분산분석(MANOVA)을 실시한 결과 차이가 명확히 있는 것을 파악되었으며 이를 통해 부산광역시 시내버스 친절서비스 향상을 위한 제고방안에 대하여 고찰 하였다.
