Gait analysis is an effective clinical tool across a wide range of applications. Recently, inertial measurement units have been extensively utilized for gait analysis. Effective gait analyses require good estimates of heel-strike and toe-off events. Previous studies have focused on the effective device position and type of triaxis direction to detect gait events. This study proposes an effective heel-strike and toe-off detection algorithm using a smart insole with inertial measurement units. This method detects heel-strike and toe-off events through a time-frequency analysis by limiting the range. To assess its performance, gait data for seven healthy male subjects during walking and running were acquired. The proposed heel-strike and toe-off detection algorithm yielded the largest error of 0.03 seconds for running toe-off events, and an average of 0-0.01 seconds for other gait tests. Novel gait analyses could be conducted without suffering from space limitations because gait parameters such as the cadence, stance phase time, swing phase time, single-support time, and double-support time can all be estimated using the proposed heel-strike and toe-off detection algorithm.
Cracks are an important distress of concrete bridges, and may reduce the life and safety of bridges. However, the traditional manual crack detection means highly depend on the experience of inspectors. Furthermore, it is time-consuming, expensive, and often unsafe when inaccessible position of bridge is to be assessed, such as viaduct pier. To solve this question, the real-time automatic crack detecting system with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) become a choice. This paper designs a new automatic detection system based on real-time comprehensive image processing for bridge crack. It has small size, light weight, low power consumption and can be carried on a small UAV for real-time data acquisition and processing. The real-time comprehensive image processing algorithm used in this detection system combines the advantage of connected domain area, shape extremum, morphology and support vector data description (SVDD). The performance and validity of the proposed algorithm and system are verified. Compared with other detection method, the proposed system can effectively detect cracks with high detection accuracy and high speed. The designed system in this paper is suitable for practical engineering applications.

RFID tag is detected by an RFID antenna and information is read from the tag detected, by an RFID reader. RFID tag detection by an RFID reader is very important at the deployment stage. Tag detection is influenced by factors such as tag direction on a target object, speed of a conveyer moving the object, and the contents of an object. The water content of the object absorbs radio waves at high frequencies, typically approximately 900 MHz, resulting in unstable tag signal power. Currently, finding the best conditions for factors influencing the tag detection requires very time consuming work at deployment. Thus, a quick and simple RFID tag detection scheme is needed to improve the current time consuming trial-and-error experimental method. This paper proposes a back-propagation learning-based RFID tag detection prediction scheme, which is intelligent and has the advantages of ease of use and time/cost savings. The results of simulation with the proposed scheme demonstrate a high prediction accuracy for tag detection on a water content, which is comparable with the current method in terms of time/cost savings.
A traffic detection system is a device that collects traffic information around an intersection. Most existing traffic detection systems provide very limited traffic information for signal control due to the restriction of vehicle detection area. A signal control scheme determines the transition among signal phases and the time that a phase lasts for. However, the existing signal control scheme do not resolve the traffic congestion effectively since they use restricted traffic information. In this paper, a new traffic detection system with a zone division signal control scheme is proposed to provide correct and detail traffic information and decrease the vehicle's waiting time at the intersection. The traffic detection system obtains traffic information in a way of vehicle-to-roadside communication between vehicles and sensor network. A new signal control scheme is built to exploit the sufficient traffic information provided by the proposed traffic detection system efficiently. Simulation results show that the proposed signal control scheme has 121 % and 56 % lower waiting time and delay time of vehicles at an intersection than other fuzzy signal control scheme.
Although the object detection accuracy with a single image has been significantly improved with the advance of deep learning techniques, the detection accuracy for pig monitoring is challenged by occlusion problems due to a complex structure of a pig room such as food facility. These detection difficulties with a single image can be mitigated by using a video data. In this research, we propose a method in pig detection for video monitoring environment with a static camera. That is, by using both image processing and deep learning techniques, we can recognize a complex structure of a pig room and this information of the pig room can be utilized for improving the detection accuracy of pigs in the monitored pig room. Furthermore, we reduce the execution time overhead by applying a pruning technique for real-time video monitoring on an embedded board. Based on the experiment results with a video data set obtained from a commercial pig farm, we confirmed that the pigs could be detected more accurately in real-time, even on an embedded board.
In this paper, in-process chatter detection methodology which utilizes nondimensional characteristic variables is introduced. To obtain nondimensional chatter detection indexes which are constant regardless of the cutting conditions during machining with the same tool and workpiece material, both the cutting forces and accelerations are measured and processed in time and frequency domain. The indexes are calculated from the present and past value of the acceleration and cutting force signals in time and frequency domain. The chatter is identified when these chatter detection indexes are bigger than the threshold which is decided by preliminary experiments. The experiment shows that these indexes works very well in-process chatter detection.

Existing Outlier detections have been widely studied in geosensor networks. Recently, machine learning and data mining have been applied the outlier detection method to build a model that distinguishes outliers based on anchored criterion. However, it is difficult for the existing methods to detect outliers against incoming time-variant data, because outlier detection needs to monitor incoming data and classify irregular attacks. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, we propose a time-variant outlier detection using 2-dimensional grid method based on unanchored criterion. In the paper, outliers using geosensor data was performed to classify efficiently. The proposed method can be utilized applications such as network intrusion detection, stock market analysis, and error data detection in bank account.
Algorithms based on the QR decomposition of the equivalent space-time channel matrix have been proved useful in the detection of V-BLAST systems. Especially, the parallel detection (PD) algorithm offers ML approaching performance up to 4 transmit antennas with reasonable complexity. We show that when directly applied to STBCs, the PD algorithm may suffer a rather significant SNR degradation over ML detection, especially at high SNRs. However, simply extending the PD algorithm to allow p ${\geq}$ 2 candidate layers, i.e. p-PD, regains almost all the loss but only at a significant increase in complexity. Here, we propose a simplification to the p-PD algorithm specific to STBCs without a corresponding sacrifice in performance. The proposed algorithm results in significant complexity reductions for moderate to high order modulations.
In the field of industrial applications, the real-time performance of the target detection problem is very important. The most serious time consumption in the pedestrian detection process is the extraction phase of the candidate window. To accelerate the speed, in this paper, a fast extraction of pedestrian candidate window based on the BING (Binarized Normed Gradients) algorithm replaces the traditional sliding window scanning. The BING features are extracted with the positive and negative samples and input into the two-stage SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier for training. The obtained BING template may include a pedestrian candidate window. The trained template is loaded during detection, and the extracted candidate windows are input into the classifier. The experimental results show that the proposed method can extract fewer candidate window and has a higher recall rate with more rapid speed than the traditional sliding window detection method, so the method improves the detection speed while maintaining the detection accuracy. In addition, the real-time requirement is satisfied.
In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm using characteristics of th ereconstructed phase trajectory by topological mapping developed for a real-tiem detection of the QRS complexes of ECG signals. Using fill-factor algorithm and mutual information algorithm which are in genral used to find out the chaotic characteristics of sampled signals, we inferred the proper mapping parameter, time delay, in ECG signals and investigated QRS detection rates with varying time delay in QRS complex detection. And we compared experimental time dealy with the theoretical one. As a result, it shows that the experimental time dealy which is proper in topological mapping from ECG signals is 20ms and theoretical time delays of fill-factor algorithm and mutual information algorithm are 20.+-.0.76ms and 28.+-.3.51ms, respectively. From these results, we could easily infer that the fill-factor algorithm in topological mapping from one-dimensional sampled ECG signals to two-dimensional vectors, is a useful algorithm for the detemination of the proper ECG signals to two-dimensional vectors, is a useful algorithm for the detemination of the proper time delay. Also with the proposed algorithm which is very simple and robust to low-frequency noise as like baseline wandering, we could detect QRS complex in real-time by simplifying preprocessing stages. For the evaluation, we implemented the proposed algorithm in C-language and applied the MIT/BIH arrhythmia database of 48 patients. The proposed algorithm provides a good performance, a 99.58% detection rate.
