This paper describes a new detecting method of initial rotor position for PMSM without a position sensors. The proposed method uses the fact that the back-EMF is differently generated according to tile initial rotor position of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). The voltage with short duty is impressed to each phase at standstill. Then, we can detect the rotor position by comparing the amplitudes and signs of three phase current each other. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed method.
This Paper describes a method for indirect sensing of the rotor position in switched reluctance motors(SRM's) using only current sensors. The detailed operation and simulation of this technique is shown. In particular, current waveform should have at least one peak and estimate the speed and rotor position by detecting position. The simulation result shows that the technique can gives the information of rotor position.

This paper describes the characteristics of Electronic Throttle Controller (ETC) module in BLDC motor without the hall sensor for detecting a rotor position. The proposed ETC control system, which is mainly consisted of a BLDC motor, a throttle plate, a return spring and reduction gear, has a position sensor with an analogue voltage output on the throttle valve instead of BLDC motor for detecting the rotor position. So the additional commutation information is necessarily needed to control the ETC module. For this, the estimation method is applied. In order to improve and obtain the high resolution for the position control, it is generally needed to change the gear ratio of the module or the electrical switching method etc. In this paper, the 3-phase switching between successive commutations is adapted instead of the 2-phase switching that is conventionally used. In addition, the position control with a variable PI gain is applied to improve a dynamic response during a transient period and reduce vibration at a stop in case of matching position reference. The mentioned method can be used to estimate the commutation state and operate the high-precision position control for the ETC module and the high response characteristics. The validity of the proposed method is examined through the experimental results.
This paper propose initial rotor position detecting algorithm of incremental encoder. The proposed algorithm estimates d-axis initial position of PMSM using 6 step operation. The proposed algorithm is verified by experimentally.
This paper presents a method of detecting rotor position for single phase Switched Reluctance Motors(SRMs) using searchs coil. In the single phase SRM, mainly Hall effect sensors or photo interrupters have been used to detect the rotor position. But these sensors cause high cost and increase the volume of the motor, Furthermore when the motor is used in very hostile environment like high temperature or pressure, its reliability goes down. In this paper, low cost and robust characteristics of rotor position detection method are focused in order to compensate for disadvantage of existing sensors. Search coils wound around the stator pole are used for detection of the rotor position in single phase SRM. Rotor position detection is achieved through electromotive force patterns induced by time-varying flux linkage in the search coil. The validity of the method is verified by experimental results.
This paper presents a new method of detecting rotor position in Toroidal Switched Reluctance Motor(TSRM). In this paper, low cost and robust characteristics of rotor position detection method are focused in order to compensate for disadvantage of general sensors. Search coils wound through the hole of the stator poles are used for detection of the rotor position in TSRM. Rotor position detection is achieved through electromotive force patterns induced by time-varying flux linkage in the search coils and then adequate phase is excited for drive. The initial rotor position estimation method is also described. The validity of the method is verified by experimental results.
The information on the actual voltages and actual currents of the motor is required for the sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor without rotor position sensors. In the model-based rotor position estimator of a PM synchronous motor, the reference voltages, which are the outputs of the current controller, are commonly used. The reference voltages in over-modulation regions for high-speed operation differ from the actual voltages applied to the motor. Consequently, the estimated rotor position and rotor speed may fail to track the real rotor position and real rotor speed. In this paper, the sensorless control for a PM synchronous motor in over-modulation regions for high-speed operation is proposed. The three-phase voltages applied to the motor are measured by using additional voltage detection circuits, and the performance of the rotor position estimator based on the measured three-phase voltages is validated through the experimental results.
This paper describes a new method of detecting rotor position in switched reluctance motor(SRM). Some strategies of position sensorless control methods for the motor include the measurement of phase current and applied pulse voltage in an unexcited phase. The principle of the estimation of a rotor position is based on the detection of inductance by pulse currents. Suggested method is verified by some experimental tests.
This paper presents a novel scheme to estimate the rotor position of a single-phase hybrid switched reluctance motor (HSRM). The proposed method uses the differential of back-EMF within a position region to estimate rotor position. By detecting the crossing-zero signal of back-EMF differential value, the minimum position of back-EMF corresponding to an absolute rotor position can be captured and used for position estimation four times in every mechanical rotation. In this way, a sensorless operation with adjustable turn on/off angle can be achieved without substantial computation. For the starting, two current comparators are adopted. The experimental verification using a prototype drive system is provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed sensorless scheme.
