  • During faults, the voltage and current signals available to the relay are affected by the decaying dc component and harmonics. In order to make appropriate and accurate decisions, most of the relaying algorithms require the fundamental frequency phasor information that is immune to decaying dc effect and harmonics. The conventional Fourier ph as or estimation algorithm is affected by the presence of decaying-exponential transients in the fault signal. This paper presents a modified Fourier algorithm, which effectively eliminates the decaying dc component and the harmonics present in the fault signal. The decaying dc parameters are estimated by means of an out-of-band filtering technique. The decaying dc offset and harmonics are removed by means of a simple computational procedure that involves the design of two sets of Orthogonal digital OFT filters tuned at different frequencies and by creating three off-line look-up tables. The technique was tested for different decay rates of the decaying dc component. It was also compared with the conventional mimic plus the full cycle OFT algorithm. The results indicate that the proposed technique has a faster convergence to the desired value compared to the conventional mimic plus OFT algorithms over a wide range of decay rates. In all cases, the convergence to the desired value was achieved within one cycle of the power system frequency.

  • The purpose of this paper is to recommend the Ministry of Defense(MOD) for revolutionizing the current defense education system. As an instructor and an education planning officer of the ROK Army College, for last dozen months, the author has been embarrassed whenever tried to figure out what would be the role, functions, and educational goals of the college. In a nutshell, there has not been any general guidance for educating field grade officers. This unbelievable defect mainly comes from the absence of a responsible organization in the MOD. Even though it has the education branch under the department of personnel affairs, it doesn't have capabilities to design and implement the consistent and valuable education policy. Therefore, the development of defense education should begin with reinforcing the organization and functions of the MOD education branch. We need more experts on education( i.e. Ph.Ds of Education) and experienced specialties on defense education so that we could develop the overall guidance for military professional education. In addition, we need to enact the "defense or military education act" in a tentative name. This will ensure the legitimacy and continuity of defense education guidance initiated by the MOD. In a conclusion, it is senseless to think the blueprint for the Army College out until the preconditions mentioned above are matured. We must begin with rectifying the higher educational system.

  • A new irradiation loop design has been developed, which provides the ability to carry out radiolytic resistance studies of extraction systems simulating process relevant conditions in an easy and simple way. The step-by-step loop configuration permits an easy modification of settings and has a relative low volume requirement. This irradiation loop has been initially set up to test the main EURO-GANEX process steps: the lanthanide (Ln) and actinide (An) co-extraction followed by the transuranic (TRU) stripping. The performance and changes in the composition have been analyzed during the irradiation experiment by different techniques: gamma spectroscopy and ICP-MS for the extraction and corrosion behavior of the full system, and HPLC-MS and Raman spectroscopy to determine the degradation of the organic and aqueous solvents, respectively. The Ln and An co-extraction step and the corrosion that occurred during the first irradiation step revealed the favorable expected results according to literature. The effects of acidity changes occurred during the irradiation process, the presence of stainless corrosion products in solution as well as the new possible degradation compounds have been explored in the An stripping step. The results obtained demonstrate the importance of developing realistic irradiation experiments where different factors affecting the performance can be easily studied and isolated.

  • The Web based multimedia programmes/courses are becoming widely available in recent years. Most of these courses focus on Behaviorist way of learning, which does not promote deep learning in any way. For Adults this approach further incapacitated, as it does not satisfy Andragogical needs. The search for Constructivist way of learning through the web applied to Indian conditions led to need for developing a curriculum development approach that would promote construction of knowledge through web based collaboration. This paper attempts to reengineer existing curriculum development processes and lays out a framework of‘Problem Based Online Learning (PBOL)’curriculum design. In this context, entire curriculum development life cycle is evolved and explained. This is a part of doctoral work (Ph.D), which is in progress and being undertaken by K.James Mathai, and guided of Dr.D.S.Karaulia.

  • Scaling and similitude large scale structural member to small scale model is considered the most important matter for the experimental tests because of the difficulty in controlling, lack of capacities and expenses, furthermore that most of MSc and PhD students suffering from choosing the suitable specimen before starting their experimental study. The current study adopts to take large scale slab with opening as a case study of structural member where the slab is squared with central squared opening, the boundary condition is fixed from all sides, the load represents by four concentrated force in four corners of opening, as well as, the study adopts Buckingham theorem which has been used for scaling, all the parameters of the problem have been formed in dimensionless groups, the main groups have been connected by a relations, those relations are represented by force, maximum stress and maximum displacement. Finite element method by ANSYS R18.1 has been used for analyzing and forming relations for the large scale member. Prediction analysis has been computed for three small scale models by depending on the formed relations of the large scale member. It is found that Buckingham theorem is considered suitable way for creating relations among the parameters for any structural problem then making similitude and scaling the large scale members to small scale members. Finally, verification between the prediction and theoretical results has been done, it is observed that the maximum deviation between them is not more than 2.4%.

  • Purpose: This study explores the impact of discrimination experience on stress levels among Seoul's public housing complex residents, emphasizing the moderating role of social capital. Research design, data and methodology: Utilizing the 2019 Seoul public housing (PH) panel data and an ordered logit model, the research categorizes residents based on personal and environmental factors, contrasting them across different local housing price levels. Results: We find that public housing residents' experience of discrimination has a significant impact on stress, and local housing prices are positively related to stress. Interestingly, stress due to discrimination is more pronounced in high-priced neighborhoods, which are associated with real estate inequality. Conversely, this impact is less pronounced in lower-priced neighborhoods. Importantly, social capital not only has a significant moderating effect on stress for all residents, but in high-priced neighborhoods, it also moderates the stress caused by experiences of discrimination for social housing residents. Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for policy interventions to strengthen social capital and address socioeconomic disparities in public housing, and are significant for analyzing the nuanced relationship between neighborhood, housing affordability, discrimination, and stress in urban communities for public housing residents, which is a socially problematic issue.

  • Purpose: This study analyzes factors influencing public interest in fermentation using Google search trends. Specifically, it examines how key elements such as oxygen, temperature, time, and pH influence fermentation-0related searches from December 2020 to September 2024. Research design, data and methodology: Data from Google Trends was collected under the Beauty & Fitness category for the terms "Fermentation," "Oxygen," "Temperature," "Time," and "pH." Time series analysis was used to track trends over four years, and a correlation analysis was conducted to assess the relationships between these terms. A linear regression model was built to determine the influence of each factor on fermentation-related searches. The dataset was split into 80% training data and 20% testing data for model validation. Results: The correlation analysis indicated moderate positive relationships between fermentation-related searches and both time and pH, while oxygen had little to no correlation. The regression model showed that time and pH were the strongest influencers of fermentation interest, explaining 25% of the variance (R-squared = 0.25). Oxygen and temperature had minimal impact in predicting fermentation-related search interest. Conclusions: Time and pH are significant factors influencing public interest in fermentation-related topics, as shown by search trends. In contrast, oxygen and temperature, while important in the fermentation process itself, did not strongly affect public search behavior. These findings provide valuable insights for businesses and researchers looking to better understand consumer interest in fermentation products.

  • Recently, agricultural methods are changing from experience-based agriculture to data-based agriculture. Changes in agricultural production due to the 4th Industrial Revolution are largely occurring in three areas: smart sensing and monitoring, smart analysis and planning, and smart control. In order to realize open-field smart agriculture, information on the physical and chemical properties of soil is essential. Conventional physicochemical measurements are conducted in a laboratory after collecting samples, which consumes a lot of cost, labor, and time, so they are quickly measured in the field. Measurement technology that can do this is urgently needed. In addition, a soil analysis system that can be carried and moved by the measurer and used in Korea's rice fields, fields, and facility houses is needed. To solve this problem, our goal is to develop and commercialize software that can collect soil samples and analyze the information. In this study, basic soil composition measurement was conducted using soil composition measurement sensors consisting of hardness measurement and electrode sensors. Through future research, we plan to develop a system that applies soil sampling using a CCD camera, ultrasonic sensor, and sampler. Therefore, we implemented a sensor and soil analysis UI that can measure and analyze the soil condition in real time, such as hardness measurement display using a load cell and moisture, PH, and EC measurement display using conductivity.
