강도로교의 피로설계하중에 관한 연구 (The Study on Fatigue Design Loads of Steel Highway Bridges)

  • 최근 중화물 차량의 적재율 증가와 교통량의 증가 등으로 인해 강도로교에서는 반복하중에 의한 피로손상이 많이 발생하고 있으며 이러한 손상은 교량의 안전성에 심각한 영향을 미치고 있다. 따라서 사용기간 동안에 발생하는 피로손상을 합리적으로 반영할 수 있는 피로설계하중을 결정하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 미국 AASHTO의 LRFD 피로설계방법을 고찰하였으며 그 결과 교폭에 관계없이 1대의 피로설계트럭을 재하하여 설계하는 것은 일정한 안전수준을 확보하지 못하는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서, 교폭에 따라 설계하중 재하방법을 다르게 하는 것이 보다 일관성 있는 안전수준을 가지는 것으로 나타났으며 본 연구에서는 다양한 교량구조형식과 통행특성에 따라 발생하는 피로손상을 합리적으로 반영할 수 있는 피로설계하중의 재하방법과 수준 및 형식을 제시하였다.

A Study on the Performance Comparison of 3D File Formats on the Web

  • 3D file formats typically include OBJ (Wavefront file format), STL (STereoLithography), and FBX (Filmbox). Each format has limitations depending on its configuration and usage, and supported formats are different depending on the software application. glTF helps uniform integration of 3D file formats and allows for more efficient transmission of large 3D geometry files by organizing them in a binary format. This paper presents explanation on OBJ, FBX, and STL which are major examples of existing 3D file formats. It also explains the concept and characteristics of glTF and compares its performance with other 3D file formats on the web. The loading time and packets of each 3D file format are measured according to the web browser environment by means of Google Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Experimental results show that glTF is the most efficient and that it exhibits the best performance. As to STL, relatively excessive traffic was observed. This study is expected to contribute to reducing rendering time on the web as 3D file formats are used.

RC beams retrofitted using external bars with additional anchorages-a finite element study

  • Study on flexural retrofitting of RC beams using external bars with additional intermediate anchorages at soffit is reported in this paper. Effects of varying number of anchorages in the external bars at soffit were studied by finite element analysis using ANSYS 12.0 software. The results were also compared with available experimental results for beam with only two end anchorages. Two sets of reference and retrofitted beam specimens with two, three, four and five anchorages were analysed and the results are reported. FE modeling and non-linear analysis was carried out by discrete reinforcement modeling using Solid65, Solid45 and Link8 elements. Combin39 spring elements were used for modeling the frictional contact between the soffit and the external bars. The beam specimens were subjected to four-point bending and incremental loading was applied till failure. The entire process of modeling, application of incremental loading and generation of output in text and graphical format were carried out using ANSYS Parametric Design Language.

nT-T/n 단면형상을 갖는 프로펠러 뿌리 필렛의 구조 성능 분석과 설계방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Structural Performance and the Design of Propeller Root Fillet Surfaces having nT-T/n section)

  • The blade root fillets which have strong influences on the performance of propellers in the both structural and hydrodynamic points of view, are mechanical parts for smooth connection surface with a blade and a hub. A few related researches (Sabol, 1983; Kennedy, 1997) have noted that 3T-T/3 double radius section design would be suitable for reducing Stress Concentration Factor(SCF) and increasing Cavitation Inception Speed(CIS). In this paper, it is confirmed that this compound cross-section design has come close to the optimum solution in the shape optimization standpoint so that it could protect the propeller blade under the frequent and various loading cases. On that basis, we suggest the definite and simple fillet design methodology that has the cross-section with nT-T/n compound radius and elliptic shape which could sustain the given derivatives information as well as the offsets at the boundary and all inner region of the fillet surface. In addition, the result of design is presented in form of IGES file format in order to connect with NC machine seamlessly.

Towards guidelines for design of loose-laid roof pavers for wind uplift

  • Hurricanes are among the most costly natural hazards to impact buildings in coastal regions. Building roofs are designed using the wind load provisions of building codes and standards and, in the case of large buildings, wind tunnel tests. Wind permeable roof claddings like roof pavers are not well dealt with in many existing building codes and standards. The objective of this paper is to develop simple guidance in code format for design of loose-laid roof pavers. Large-scale experiments were performed to investigate the wind loading on concrete roof pavers on the flat roof of a low-rise building in Wall of Wind, a large-scale hurricane testing facility at Florida International University. They included wind blow-off tests and pressure measurements on the top and bottom surfaces of pavers. Based on the experimental results simplified guidelines are developed for design of loose-laid roof pavers against wind uplift. The guidelines are formatted so that use can be made of the existing information in codes and standards such as American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) 7-10 standard's pressure coefficients for components and cladding. The effects of the pavers' edge-gap to spacer height ratio and parapet height to building height ratio are included in the guidelines as adjustment factors.

플라스틱 V-벨트 풀리 설계 및 시작품 제작에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Product Design and Prototype Manufacturing of a Plastic V-Belt Pulley)

  • In this study, product design and prototype manufacturing of a plastic water-pump pulley has been tried. The designed model is supposed to be made of 33 % glass reinforced resin of which the tensile strength is 180 MPa, and has 24 ribs on each side to increase its structural strength. Structural analysis under a static load of 300 kgf acting on both edges of the belt has been carried out using a commercial finite element code, MARC. The analysis result showed the maximum effective stress near a rib of designed model would be at most 35 MPa (less than 20% of the tensile strength), therefore, the plastic product would be sufficiently safe under that loading condition. On the basis of the structural analysis, a prototype of the designed model has been manufactured by using the fused deposition modelling (FDM) method which is one of the rapid prototyping (RP) methods, using ABS resin and support materials. The CAD data exported to the RP system in STL format was prepared by a commercial solid modeling software, SolidWorks. It has been proved that the plastic pulley can successfully replace the existing flow-formed steel product.

범용 운영체제의 이식성 향상을 위한 인터페이스 미들웨어 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Interface Middleware for Improved Portability on General Operating System)

  • 운영체제 상에서 동작하는 응용프로그램은 운영체제의 환경과 지원하는 표준 라이브러리들이 다르기 때문에 운영체제에 매우 높은 의존성을 가진다. 이러한 이유로 동일한 기능을 수행하는 응용프로그램도 운영체제에 따라 새롭게 구현해야 되며 이는 응용프로그램 개발 이후의 유지 보수나 관리 측면에서도 시간적, 경제적 낭비를 초래한다. 이를 해결하기 위해 Cygwin이나 MinGW 등의 연구가 진행되고 있지만, 가상환경이나 툴을 제공하는 것일 뿐 응용프로그램 자체에 대한 이식성을 지원하는 것은 아니다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 표준 C라이브러리와 POSIX를 이용한 래퍼 형식의 범용 운영체제를 위한 인터페이스 미들웨어를 설계하여 응용프로그램이 가상환경이나 코드 수정 없이 동일한 동작을 지원한다. 미들웨어는 API를 기본과 확장으로 분류해 선택적으로 적재하여 응용프로그램의 크기를 효율적으로 관리할 수 있도록 한다. 또한, 응용프로그램을 인터페이스 미들웨어를 탑재한 Linux, Unix, Windows와 Cygwin을 비교 실험하고 기능 및 성능 평가를 수행하였다.

3D printing of multiple container models and their trajectory tests in calm water

  • More and more shipping containers are falling into the sea due to bad weather. Containers lost at sea negatively affect the shipping line, the trader and the consumer, and the environment. The question of locating and recovering dropped containers is a challenging engineering problem. Model-testing of small-scaled container models is proposed as an efficient way to investigate their falling trajectories to salvage them. In this study, we first build a standard 20-ft container model in SOLIDWORKS. Then, a three-dimensional (3D) geometric model in the STL (Standard Tessellation Language) format is exported to a Stratasys F170 Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) printer. In total, six models were made of acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) and printed for the purpose of testing. They represent three different loading conditions with different densities and center of gravity (COG). Two samples for each condition were tested. The physical models were dropped into the towing tank of University of New Orleans (UNO). From the experimental tests, it is found that the impact of the initial position after sinking can cause a certain initial rolling velocity, which may have a great impact on the lateral displacement, and subsequently affect the final landing position. This series of model tests not only provide experimental data for the study of the trajectory of box-shape objects but also provide a valuable reference for maritime salvage operations and for the pipeline layout design.
