We present a new design approach and an example design for an image-space telecentric two-mirror system that has a fast f-number and a wide-field line image. The initial design of the telecentric mirror system is a conventional axially symmetric system, consisting of a flat primary mirror with fourth-order aspheric deformation and an oblate ellipsoidal secondary mirror to correct spherical aberration, coma, and field curvature. Even though in the optimized design the primary mirror is tilted, to avoid ray obstruction by the secondary mirror, the image-space telecentric two-mirror system shows quite good imaging performance, for a line imager.
Flow structures in an axial compressor with a non-uniform tip clearance were predicted by solving a simple prediction method. For more reliable prediction at the off-design condition, off-design flow characteristics such as loss and flow blockage were incorporated in the model. The predicted results showed that flow field near the design condition is largely dependent on the local tip clearance effect. However overall flow field characteristics are totally reversed at off-design condition, especially at the high flow coefficient. The tip clearance effect decreases, while the local loss and flow blockage make a complicated effect on the compressor flow field. The resultant fluid induced Alford's force has a negative value near the design condition and it reverses its sign as the flow coefficient increases and shows a very steep increase as the flow coefficient increases.

In the concurrent engineering, the CAD-based design model is necessary for multidisciplinary analysis and for computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). A shape and configuration design velocity field computation of structure has been developed using a computer-aided design (CAD) tool, Pro/ENGINEER. The design Parameterization with CAD tool is to characterize the change in dimensions and movements of geometric control points that govern the shape/orientation of the structural boundary. The boundary velocity is obtained by using a CAD-based finite difference method and the domain velocity field is obtained from finite element analysis (FEA) using the boundary displacement method. In this paper, the continuum configuration DSA for NVH problem, which requires the shape velocity field and the orientation velocity field at the same time, is developed using linear shape functions. For validation of continuum design sensitivity coefficients, design sensitivity coefficients are compared with the coefficients computed using by the finite difference method.

In this paper, the optimum design of the glass net shape was studied to minimize the electric field of mold transformer. The glass net is used for reinforcement in structure between coils and epoxy, but it can cause to increase the electric field and the partial discharge. Therefore, the optimum design of glass net is required to minimize the electric field. In this paper, the objective function was approximated by using response surface method and then Zoom-in method was used for optimal design to minimize the electric field. The electric field was analysed using finite element method for each shape of glass nets.
This paper presents a design method for improving the low relative illumination and large distortion due to widening the field of a system. A tele-centric optical system in image space was suggested to increase the relative illumination. Through the analyses of the third-order aberrations affected by introducing aspherical surfaces, we have proposed a method to determine analytically what surface should be aspheric to correct each aberration effectively. By utilizing this method to design a wide field lens, a tele-centric wide field lens with f-number of F/2.0 was obtained. Even though the field angle is 120 degrees, it has a very low distortion less than -2% and high relative illumination more than 73.7%. In conclusion, this analytic method for selecting aspherical surfaces is expected to serve as a useful way to find design solutions.

Magnetic field theories for the design of highly homogeneous magnet are introduced and a nonlinear optimization method for the design of actively shielded superconducting magnet is presented. The presented design method can optimize both main coil and shielding coil simultaneously by setting constraints on stray field intensity at a specified distance from the magnet center. A 2-Tesla actively shielded superconducting magnet, with 90cm bore diameter, is designed using the presented method. The field homogeneity is 2ppm/30cm DSV and the 5 gauss stray field contour is within 4m axially and 3m radially from the magnet center. (author)., 7 refs., 6 figs., 3 tabs.
In this study, die turning injection(DTI) mold design for manufacturing reservoir fluid tanks used for cooling in-vehicle batteries, inverters, and motors was conducted based on multi-field CAE. Part design, performance evaluation, and mold design of the reservoir fluid tank was performed. The frequency response characteristics through modal and harmonic response analysis to satisfy the automotive performance test items for the designed part were examined. Analysis of re-melting characteristics and structural analysis of the driving part for designing the rotating die of the DTI mold were performed. Part design was possible when the natural frequency performance value of 32Hz or higher was satisfied through finite element analysis, and the temperature distribution and deformation characteristics of the part after injection molding were found through the first injection molding analysis. In addition, it can be seen that the temperature change of the primary part greatly influences the re-melting characteristics during the secondary injection. The minimum force for driving the turning die of the designed mold was calculated through structural analysis. Hydraulic system design was possible. Finally, a precise and efficient DTI mold design for the reservoir fluid tank was possible through presented multi-field CAE process.
A 100 〔HP〕 rated synchronous motor with superconducting rotating field winding has been designed based on the formulated equations established from 2 dimensional magnetic field distributions in a cylindrical coordinate The cross-section was drawn based on calculated design results via Fortran program and then modeled with FEM (Finite Element Method) to investigate the machine performances. First of all, the magnetic field distributions are analysed in many ways according to the field directions and the armature currents. Especially after the rotating Held winding is arranged with BSCCO-2223 high-temperature superconducting(HTS) pancake coils, the exerted magnetic field normally on the HTS tape is calculated through FEM. And the machine output power is calculated according to the torque ang1es which lie between the field and the armature main flux lines. Moreover, this Paper includes the eddy-current loss variations of a copper damper located between the field and the armature coils and design considerations of the 100 HP HTS motor utilizing ferro-magnetic material.
In this paper, the details and design process of an optical system for space target detection cameras are introduced. The whole system is divided into three structures. The first structure is a short-focus visible light system for rough detection in a large field of view. The field of view is 2°, the effective focal length is 1,125 mm, and the F-number is 3.83. The second structure is a telephoto visible light system for precise detection in a small field of view. The field of view is 1°, the effective focal length is 2,300 mm, and the F-number is 7.67. The third structure is an infrared light detection system. The field of view is 2°, the effective focal length is 390 mm, and the F-number is 1.3. The visible long-focus narrow field of view and visible short-focus wide field of view are switched through a turning mirror. Design results show that the modulation transfer functions of the three structures of the system are close to the diffraction limit. It can further be seen that the short-focus wide-field-of-view distortion is controlled within 0.1%, the long-focus narrow-field-of-view distortion within 0.5%, and the infrared subsystem distortion within 0.2%. The imaging effect is good and the purpose of the design is achieved.

The first step of performance-based design for transmission lines is the determination of wind fields as well as wind loads, which are largely depending on local wind climate and the surrounding terrain. Wind fields in a mountainous area are very different with that in a flat terrain. This paper firstly investigated both mean and fluctuating wind characteristics of a typical mountainous wind field by wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The speedup effects of mean wind and specific turbulence properties, i.e., turbulence intensity, power spectral density (PSD) and coherence function, are highlighted. Then a hybrid simulation framework for generating three dimensional (3D) wind velocity field in the mountainous area was proposed by combining the CFD and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method given the properties of the target turbulence field. Finally, a practical 220 kV transmission line was employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed wind field generation framework and its role in the performance-based design. It was found that the terrain-induce turbulence effects dominate the performance-based structural design of transmission lines running through the mountainous area.
