Research on reducing the thickness of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles is necessary to reduce the amount of plastic used. However, as decreasing a PET bottle's thickness weakens it, a robust bottle design is required. Therefore, in this study, we numerically analyzed various bottom designs of a carbonated soft drink PET bottle with 245 and 500 ml capacities and complicated petaloid shapes. Deformation, equivalent stress, maximum principal stress, and its direction according to each design were analyzed to study the strength of the bottle. The results serve as a reference to design robust petaloid PET bottle bottoms with a reduced thickness for carbonated soft drinks.
The traditional image of hydraulic excavator started to change in two ways since 1990. First, post-heavy equipment's visual image was new waves to traditional image of heavy, strong, and wild. They are the negative aspect that excavators have. Another movement of getting rid of its negative image can be found in late-heavy equipment, which was intended to adapt traditional and positive, but off negative images. In 1990s, the design trend is moving from warm/hard to warm/soft, and KOBELCO can be exceptional example that went even further, gone up to cool-soft image. KOBELCO specially aimed 'post- excavator image' strategy, which has been successful. Image of cabin as a human space changed little bit further than outside image. Each company tried to differentiate the design of cabin focusing on its safety. Following paragraphs show specific trend of image change in form, colour, texture, and the composition. Major visual image change in form tries to follow the image of cars and home appliances which are showing the movement from tough and hard image to soft one. Structural change on local image shows the movement from angular edge to edgeless and the movement of cabin's pillar C placed to back of the equipment with gentle inclination. All of these movements are the result of effort to improve traditional excavator's negative image, that top structure is assembled separately, to positive ones. Today's tendency about its color becomes important to apply two different colour styles. Each style has brightness and tone comparison. As an enormous power convey system, it was in common that its brightness comparison was useful because of the alarm of its damage possibility. However, as its colour control and its design have been emphasized gradually, the tone comparison takes a part in an important role, too. As an example, there is an occasion that these comparisons are compromised simultaneously. In the respect of its image creation, its texture treatments make the tendency of being the same as passenger cars. It is caused from its development of the manufacture techniques of from the fabrication method in small business to the press method in big firm. Further, it is also because of its improvement of painting & coating skills. It may prohibit the reflection effect from solar rays. In the point of view of its visual images, it is recognized the prominent tendency that its composition has been gradually decreased. Lots of windows and the frames tends dark-colour as a whole. It is more preferred to have one colour image, but except KOBELCO and HITACHI. As well, there is another high-tendency to improve its standard treatments, especially for its corner and texture treatments.
The purpose of this research is to empirically validate the IIPS (Interior Image Preference Scale) which is a newly developed visual instrument for evaluating the environmental disposition inherent to individuals especially one's interior image preferences. The questionnaire survey was used. The data were collected from Oct. 10th 1997 to Nov. 14th 1997. The subjects were 399 undergraduate students and 30 professor of Dep. of Interior Design. With respect to content validity and construct validity of IIPS discrimination and similarity structure of scales and characteristics of 12 prototype interior images were examined in comparison with the originals. 429 questionnaires were analyzed using frequency percentage mean and Multi-Dimensional Scales. The major results were as follows (1) All 80 items of IIPS were discriminated by 3 criteria such as Traditionalism·Modernity(TM) Masculinity·Femininty (MF) and Simplicity·Complexity (SC) as expected at the time of the instrument development stage.(2) 12 prototype interior images of the IIPS showed tendency to be accord with descriptors to express them in comparison with the originals (3) All 90 items of IIPS showed a cluster distribution according to the similarity structure of scales. Three subscales of IIPS(e . g. TM MF and SC) were structured pretty well by those 3 dimensions. This research revealed the IIPS to have content validity and construct validity for evaluating of preference of three properties of interior image in empirical research. The IIPS was found to be potential objective tool to measure the interior image preferences.

Light emitting diode(LED) has many advantages including lower energy consumption and longer lifetime and eco-friendly in comparison with traditional light sources. Spheric plastic lens generally used in LED lighting occurs aberration and ghost image which give displeasure and deteriorate vision quality in human eyes. Using the optical program (LightTools$^{TM}$, CodeV$^{TM}$), we were confirm the aberration and ghost image in optical simulation and employed aspheric lens form in the lens design to improve these problems. From the comparison of the simulation results between the aspheric lens and the spheric lens, we were ascertain to be improved both aberration and Ghost image.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of comparative advertisement brand typicality and need for recognition in outdoor apparel market. This study was created with a mixed factorial design of 2 (Advertisement types: Comparative advertisement vs. General advertisement) X 2(Brand Typicality: High Brand vs. Low Brand) X 2 (Need for Cognition: High vs. Low). The results of this study are as follows: First, it was shown that comparative advertisement had a greater positive influence on attitudes toward advertising intentions in comparison to general advertisements. Second, while comparative advertisement was more effective than general advertisement for outdoor apparel brands with low typicality. Third, consumers with higher need for cognition showed a preferred attitude toward advertising intention when met with comparative advertising in contrast to general advertisement. Fourth, when consumers with higher needs for cognition were exposed to advertisement for brands of lower typicality, there was higher positive influence on the attitudes toward advertisement intention with comparative advertisement in comparison to general advertisement. This means the comparative advertisement may be effective for the new garment brand or the garment brands having low typicality to secure the cognition quickly from the consumers having high need for cognition.

In this paper, the results of an analysis of the dynamic behavior of the eddy current brake(ECB) system are presented. The measured irregularity of the track in Korean high speed line and the track irregularity given by ERRI(high level) were used for simulation. The wheel-rail profile combination were analyzed with different rail gauges. A model of the bogie with an substitute body for the carbody was implemented in the Multi-body-Simulation Program SIMPACK. The ECB frame was modelled both as flexible body and as rigid body. Four different driving conditions were analyzed. In this study dynamic behavior in general were performed to evaluate the design of eddy current brake system and specially the effect of damper was also studied. A comparison of simulations with and without damper shows that the damper have most effect for lower speed. The simulation results will be verified by comparison with measured data from on line test and also used for improving design.

A total of four column base tests with different connection configurations were carried out, and it was found that section failure under combined bending and shear was always critical. Moreover, the proposed column bases were demonstrated to be structurally efficient attaining moment resistances close to those of the connected sections. In order to examine the structural behaviour of the column base connections, a finite element model was established using shell and spring elements to model the sections and the bolted fastenings respectively. Both material and geometrical non-linearities were incorporated, and comparison between the test and the numerical results was presented in details. The design rules originally developed for bolted moment connections between lapped Z sections were adopted and re-formulated for the design of column base connections after careful calibration against the test data. Comparison on co-existing moments and shear forces at the critical cross-sections of the column bases was fully presented. It was shown that the proposed design and analysis method was structurally adequate to predict the failure loads under combined bending and shear for column bases with similar connection configurations.

The author has presented a new approach to design hydrofoil section shapes in consideration of viscous for marine propeller blades. In suction sides of propeller blades, the pressure distribution on hydrofoil sections in non-cavitating flow should be examined before the study of cavitation characteristics. Generally, the calculation results for hydrofoil conformal mapping method by which neglect viscous effects do not agree with experimental ones. Moreover, another papers reported that laminar separation bubble and transition played an important role on the cavitation inception. From these considerations, it is very important to study the viscous effects of the hydrofoil sections, especially the mechanism separation bubble and the apparent thickness of hydrofoil section. Therefore, the new design method of hydrofoil sections in consideration of viscous effects in comparison to the airfoil section should be studied. In designing the new hydrofoil section shapes, based on Eppler theory, the author tried to give the peak negative pressure in leading edge region for NACA airfoil in consideration of viscous effects without turbulent boundary layer separation as much as possible. The design method was verified from the fact that the boundary characteristics was improved and the lifts of new hydrofoils were slightly in creased in comparison to these of NACA 16-012 symmetrical, NACA 4412 non-symmetrical airfoils.
Fully biodegradable high strength composites or 'advanced green composites' were fabricated using yearly renewable soy protein based resins and high strength liquid crystalline cellulose fibers. For comparison, E-glass and aramid ($Kevlar^{(R)}$) fiber reinforced composites were also prepared using the same modified soy protein resins. The modification of soy protein included forming an interpenetrating network-like (IPN-like) resin with mechanical properties comparable to commonly used epoxy resins. The IPN-like soy protein based resin was further reinforced using nano-clay and microfibrillated cellulose. Fiber/resin interfacial shear strength was characterized using microbond method. Tensile and flexural properties of the composites were characterized as per ASTM standards. A comparison of the tensile and flexural properties of the high strength composites made using the three fibers is presented. The results suggest that these green composites have excellent mechanical properties and can be considered for use in primary structural applications. Although significant additional research is needed in this area, it is clear that advanced green composites will some day replace today's advanced composites made using petroleum based fibers and resins. At the end of their life, the fully sustainable 'advanced green composites' can be easily disposed of or composted without harming the environment, in fact, helping it.
