This study sought to investigate the environmental predictors of atopic dermatitis in children. The participants were 1050 (age 3-5) children taken from data data from the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs. A data mining decision tree model revealed that the factors of medical neglect, breakfast, attachment to mother, and mother's depression influenced atopic dermatitis in children. Our results revealed that in the factors considered above, medical neglect had the greatest influence upon atopic dermatitis in children.

항문주위 연쇄구균성 피부염(perianal streptococcal dermatitis, PSD)은 종종 다른 소아 항문주위 질환과 혼돈되어 잘못된 치료로 질병을 악화시키므로 빠르고 정확한 진단이 중요하다. 조기 진단과 치료는 환아의 불편과 부모의 스트레스를 경감시키며, 항생제 투여를 빨리 할수록 증상이 극적으로 빨리 호전된다. 저자들은 드물지는 않지만 현실적으로 잘 알려져 있지 않은 항문주위 연쇄구균성 피부염 1례를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

Introduction : Atopic dermatitis(AD) is chronic eczematous dermatitis which is related strongly to a family history of atopic disease and hereditary disposition. Adolescence and adult atopic dermatitis (AAD) patients have been overlooked because they were relatively small population and AAD were considered merely consecutive of infant and childhood AD. Objective : The purpose of this study was to estimate the efficacy of oriental medical treatment and management on chromic AAD with nummular eczema and breast eczema. Methods : We tented this case with herb-medication, herb-irrigation, acupuncture, negative therapy, full spectrum visible lay therapy (by carbon arc) and external application (SA1, Siwon Ilhwang-Go). We observed for 7 months. Results : The grades of the severity of AD with nummular eczema, breast eczema were lower only by the oriental medical treatments and managements. Conclusion : Considering the above results, more study is needed on the case with AAD with diffuse nummular eczema, effectiveness of external application and correlation between immunological and results of oriental media treatments.

Exfoliative Dermatitis is a name of a group of symptoms which is characterized by red rash, itching and scale in almost whole body. The patients are suffered from hypoalbuminemia, general weakness and fever sign in addition to characteristic skin lesions. So in the treatment of this disease, adequate symptomatic treatment is important with adequate topical skin management. We experienced a 69 year old Korean male patient diagnosed as Exfoliative Dermatitis based on clinical symptoms and a medical certificate. We concluded that the symptoms of this patient are Sun-symptoms(癬症) and gave him Bangpungtongsung-san(剝脫性皮膚炎) and Geunsun-bang(乾癬方). After taking Oriental Medicine(the hebal medicine of internal use), clinical improvement was noticed. Based on this experience, internal use of Oriental Medicine have a good effect in Exfoliative Dermatitis.

Background : With the growing use of chemical products such as cosmetics, hair dyes, reports of side effects following application of these products is increasing. Contact dermatitis commonly occurs with the use of chemical products. Objective : This study investigated the effect of Oriental medicine for Four outpatients with contact dermatitis due to chemical products. Method : Four patients were treated with acupuncture, herbal medication etc. We used visual analogue scales(VAS) to estimate erythema, pruritus, edema, scales, etc. We took the photos of lesions. Results : Two patients were due to hair dyes, the other two patients were due to cosmetics. Erythema and Pruritus were decreased from nine days to one month. Conclusion : We expect that Oriental medicine could be helpful for contact dermatitis.

Atopic Dermatitis has a number of characteristic symptoms, including itchy red spots and acute rashes that can ooze fluid and/or crust over. Currently, no cure exists as the fundamental cause of Atopic Dermatitis is not yet known. In this paper, the author reports on a case study in which Atopic Dermatitis patients are successfully treated by way of sweating. The described treatment method, called Poison Extraction Method, takes advantage of medical benefits of perspiring in hot bath or sauna. It assumes that the chronic symptoms suffered by Atopic Dermatitis patients are largely due to overuse of steroid-based ointments and attempts to extract resulting toxic elements by having patients sweat in either a hot bath or sauna or both. The exact prescription for sweating depends on the severity of the symptoms of individual patients. The described treatment has been successfully tested in a clinical trial, which we report in this paper.

Objective : This study investigated results of treatment of Atopic Dermatitis(AD) patients diagnosed as damp-heat type with herbal medicine and wet dreesing. Method : Six AD subjects diagnosed as damp-heat type were selected from the outpatient department of East-West Neo Medical Center in the period of Dec. 2006 to Feb. 2007. Each subject was treated with herbal medicine and wet dressing. Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis(SCORAD) was used to evaluate the effect of treatment and pictures were taken of the Atopic dermatitis lesions. Result & Conclusion : We observed improvement on SCORAD score, especially intensity score of damp-heat type when they were treated with herbal medicine and wet dressing. However, it is less effective and AD often recurs in case of chronic adult-type AD. In addition, nipple eczema in some patients has showed a tendency to improve slowly and recur easily compared to other lesions.

Objective : The purpose of this case study is to report the effectiveness of Sihochunggan-tang gagambang in respect of liver meridian wind-heat or liver-heat on 7 seborrheic dermatitis patients who were in high stress and had unhealthy dietary habit. Methods : VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) score was used to check the prognosis of 7 seborrheic dermatitis patients, who have been treated with Sihochunggan-tang gagambang and acupuncture. Results : VAS score decreased as a result of Sihochunggan-tang gagambang treatment in 7 patients. Conclusion : Sihochunggan-tang gagambang can be effective treatment for the high stress and unhealthy diet related seborrheic dermatitis when diagnosed as liver meridian wind-heat or liver-heat

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Hyeongbangdojok-san on 4 seborrheic dermatitis patients who were diagnosed as Soyangin.Methods : 4 seborrheic dermatitis patients were treated by Hyeongbangdojok-san. The effect of treatment was measured by EASI score, VAS score, photographs.Results : EASI score and VAS score decreased as a result of Hyeongbangdojok-san treatment in 4 patients.Conclusions : These case-studies showed an efficient result of using Hyeongbangdojok-san in the seborrheic dermatitis of Soyangin. And an author consider that continuous clinical study will be needed in Korean medical dermatology.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the meaning and essence of experiences of stress in mothers of preschoolers with atopic dermatitis. Methods: This study employed a qualitative research design. Seven mothers of preschoolers with atopic dermatitis were interviewed and the data were analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological method. Results: Five main themes and 12 theme clusters emerged. The 5 main themes were 1) the mother's enduring heartache from the conflict that arise among family members, 2) the complete loss of daily happiness, 3) the steady stream of emotional fluctuations, 4) struggling to bear the heavy financial burden, and, 5) a life of hope accompanied by stress. Conclusion: The results of this study provide an in-depth understanding of stress among mothers of preschoolers with atopic dermatitis. These results can be used in the development of nursing interventions to provide psychological and emotional support for mothers and family members.
