  • This is a basic study of further investigating the effect of oceanographic conditons, such as bottom profile, currents, and temperature, to the fish migrating course around the set-net. The survey was held at Dojang Po, southern part of Geoje Island, from July to October in 1985. There was a sea valley of which depth was 20 to 40 meters around the set-net. Near the bottom of that sea valley, there was different current pattern to the upper layer. In the sea calm condition of July and October, the vertical profiles of current and water temperature were simple. But in rough condition of September, they were complicated because of wind tuburance.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an analysis scheme in order to predict regrinding due to tool wear in shearing process. The analysis of material now and fracture in shearing process should precede the prediction of tool wear. Thus the developed FE-program to analyze shearing process is used. In order to predict tool wear, the wear model is reformulated as an incremental form and then the wear depth of tool is calculated at each deformation path. Because the regrinding of shearing tool is determined on the basis of allowable size of burr, the analysis of shearing process is iteratively performed using the worn profile of tool. To show the effectiveness of the scheme the simulation result is compared with experimental one.

  • This experimental study was performed to find rpms of the impeller and the surface flow accelerator to make a uniform velocity vertical distribution in the circular water channel. PIV technique was employed to measure the water velocity profiles into the water depth from the free surface. The number of instantaneous velocity profiles was decomposed into mean and turbulence velocity components, and the distribution of velocity fluctuation and turbulence intensity were computed for each experimental condition. From these results, the velocity uniformity was quantitatively determined to present the flow quality in the measuring section of the circular water channel. It has been shown that the proper operation of the surface flow accelerator would make the uniform velocity profiles and reduce the velocity fluctuation near the free surface.

  • The objective of this phantom study is to develop a digital method for improving the lateral resolution of B-scan ultrasonographic images irs medical application of ultrasound. By utilizing a discrete state-space modeling approach and Kalman-Buch method for analysis of the transducer's beam profile and the measurement and sampling noise, a stable recursive restoration of the object image was obtained for improved lateral resolution. The point spread function (PSF) was measured for the reflective signals after scanning the small pins located along the depth of interest. One major advantage of the present recursive scheme over the transform method is in its applicability for the space-variant imaging, such as in the case of the rotational movement of transducer.

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films are deposited at room temperature using a filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) technique. The influence of negative bias voltage (applied to the substrate from 0 to -250V) on the $sp^3$ hybridized carbon fraction is examined by Raman spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for C 1s core peak. For the first time, depth profile of C 1s, Si 2p, and O 1s XPS peaks for the deposited DLC film are obtained. DLC film is modeled as a multilayered structure. composing of surface, bulk, and interface. In addition, the x-ray reflectivity (XRR) is proposed as a method for estimating the density, surface roughness, and thickness of each layer constituting the DLC film. The estimated thickness of DLC film is in good agreement with the result obtained from the transmission electron microscope (TEM) measurement.

  • Particle contamination into and out of a cavity-cylindrical cavities with aspect ratios(width/depth) less than, equal to 1 and langer than 1, and also three dianensional T's attached to a cylindrical flow tube was studied numerically, using a finite difference method. In the process of unsteady particle diffusion, the particles contained in a concentration boundary layer near the tube wall plays an important role in the initial stage, after which a quasi-steady concentration profile is developed inside the cavity, resulting in an exponential change of concentration with time. Average concentration and its rate of change are observed to be closely correlated by a power law function in terms of Reynolds number and the logarithm of Schmidt number. Effects of the three parameters-Re, Sc, and aspect ratio-are analysed and well explained.

  • In this study the glass transition temperature in thin polymer films has been studied. Ellipsometry has been used to measure $T_{g}$ of thin film as a function of film thickness. Empirical equation has been proposed to fit the measured $T_{g}$ pattern with thickness. Also, a continuous multilayer model was proposed and derived to describe the effect of surface on the observed $T_{g}$ reduction in thin films, and the depth-dependent $T_{g}$ profile was obtained. These results showed that $T_{g}$ at the top surface was much lower than the bulk $T_{g}$ and gradually approached the bulk $T_{g}$ with increasing distance from the edge of the film. The model and equation were modified to apply for the polymer coated on the strongly favorable substrate and the freely standing film.

  • A Sol-gel derived ferroelectric PbTiO3 thin film was synthesized by using diethanolamine (DEA) as a comple-xing agent. Surface chemical analyses were examined in order to study the effect of heating temperature on the composition of thin film by EPMA and XPS. A rapid volatilization of lead was observed in the films fired at $700^{\circ}C$ or higher and the ratio of Pb:Ti was found to be 34:66. A depth profile by Ar+ showed that the Ar sputtering decreased Pb amount of inner part of the film resulting in Ti-rich phase near the surface of the film.

  • The meachanism for cutting epoxy resins specimens which were specially provided was experimentally investigated to obtain a fine surface finish. the specimens were cut the three-dimensional undrer dry conditions using a lathe. the relationship between the topography of the cut surface due to the change rate of temperature of the cutting condition using sintered carbides (P20, K10, KT150) was investigated. the main results obtained are as follows: 1) The change rate of temperature of the cutting edge is increased in nearly proportion ot cutting speed feed rate depth of cut. 2)The profile of surface roughness were regulated k10 but irregulated P20 KT150. 3) The surface roughness value decreased K10 rather than P20 KT150. 3) The surface roughness value decreased K10 rather than P20 KT 150.4)The cutting resistance increased thrust force rather than cutting force due to the visco-elastic material of epoxy resins.

  • Generally, silicon heterojunction solar cell has intrinsic and n-type of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) as passivation layer and BSF layer. In this study, antimony, novel material, deposited on back side of the heterojunction solar cell as passivation and BSF layer to substitute the a-Si:H and the characteristics of the solar cell such electrical properties and optical properties were analyzed. And SIMS analysis was carried out to obtain the depth profile of the BSF layer which was deposited by laser annealing process.
