Currently, the seismic design standards have been strengthened due to the occurrence of the Gyeongju and Pohang earthquake, and seismic performance evaluation of existing facilities is being conducted. It aims to secure a seismic performance effect during earthquakes by improving the micro-pile method, which can be constructed in limited confined places while minimizing damage to existing facilities. The improvement method is to construct all the piles in the square-tray-type plate on the top of the pile by constructing the slope pile in the form of an umbrella around the vertical pile, the main pillar. In this paper, the numerical analysis was performed to analyze the horizontal displacement behavior of an umbrella-type micropile for various real-measurement seismic waves in sandy soil. As a result of numerical analysis, the softer the ground, the better the effect of horizontal resistance of umbrella-type micropile. The horizontal displacement reduction effect was pronounced when the embedded depth was 15 m or more at the same ground strength, and it was found to be effective in earthquakes if it was settled on the ground with an N value of 30 or more. The embedded depth and horizontal displacement suppression effect of the micropile was proportional. Generally, the weaker the ground, the greater the displacement suppression effect. Umbrella-type micropile had a composite resistance effect in which the vertical pile resists the moment and inclined pile resists the axial force.

A two-dimensional numerical analysis was performed on the depth of pile embedment, the magnitude of the residual water level, and the condition of the presence or absence of cap concrete to understand the behavior of the block-type quay wall with piles. The results showed the control effect of the lateral displacement of the quay wall depending on the embedment of the pile. When the piles were not embedded, the lateral displacement of the quay wall increased proportionally as the residual water level difference increased. In contrast, when the piles were embedded into the ground, the control of the lateral displacement of the quay wall was greatly exerted even if the residual water level difference increased. There was little difference in the lateral displacement of the block-type quay wall regardless of the presence or absence of cap concrete. Under the condition where the piles were embedded down to the rubble mound layer, the piles exhibited the rotational behavior seen in the short piles. As the embedment depth of the piles increased, the piles showed the same bending behavior as the intermediate piles. Thus, the piles significantly contribute to the control of lateral displacement in the block-type quay wall with piles.

The importance of the vertical response of a structure was well recognized after the Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake of Japan. However, most of the seismic design codes does not specified the site sail profiles, and the sail and foundations conditions were mostly neglected in the vertical seismic analyses of a structure. In this paper, the effects of foundation size, sail layer depth under the foundation, foundation embedment and pile foundation on the vertical seismic response spectra for both surface and embedded mat foundation were studied to investigate the effects of the soft soil layer on the vertical response of a structure excited with the vertical components of Taft and El Centro earthquakes, considering the sail profile types of $S_A,S_C,S_E$ in UBC-97, the medium and large size foundations, the soil layer depth under the foundation of 30 and 60m, the foundation embedment of 0 and 15m, and the precast reinforced concrete bearing piles installed in the soft soil deposit. According to the study results, the foundation size has a little effect on the vertical seismic response, However, the soil layer depth under the foundation of 60m has to be considered for the vertical seismic analysis of a structure as for the horizontal one. The embedded pile foundations as well as the surface ones built on the soft soil layer amplified the vertical seismic response of a structure very much.
For long piles driven in deep clay deposits, it is difficult to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity due to large resistance induced by long embedded depth, and also the load transfer curve due to large residual load induced by negative skin friction, even with the performance of pile load tests. In this research, a hi-directional load test on a PHC pile driven in deep soft deposit was performed in order to evaluate the tip and shaft resistances separately, which are feasible to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of the pile. Residual load of the pile was determined by continuous monitoring of pile strains after the pile installation. The true resistance and true load-movement curve of the pile were properly estimated by taking account of the residual load. A model far behavior of the shaft resistance vs. movement was also proposed, which includes the effects of residual load based on the experiment. Consequently, it was proved that the residual load should be taken into consideration for correctly analyzing load test results of piles in deep clay deposits.

The load distribution and deformation of single piles which is embedded in Jumunjin sand and Kimhae clay are investigated, based on small scale model tests. Special attention is given to the consideration of flexural rigidity in laterally loaded piles. To consider the flexural rigidity of the pile, tests are performed with the aluminium piles of three different length under different relative densities and undrained shear strength. The test results indicate that the initial slope from the results of tests is proportional to the depth and pile-soil rigidity in both soils. But the increasing rate of the initial slope in the clay is less than in the sand. In addition, the soil resistance is more related to the depth and soil condition than the pile rigidity. Base on the test results, an empirical formula is proposed, which is good agreement with previously published small scale model test and field lateral load test.

This paper describes the load distribution and settlement of rockbolted-drilled shafts subjected to axial and lateral loads with the view to shortening the embedded depth of the pile shaft. The emphasis was on quantifying the reinforcing effects of rockbolts placed from the shafts to surrounding weathered rocks based on small-scale model tests peformed on instrumented piles. The major influencing parameters on reinforcing drilled shaft behavior are the number, the positions on the shaft, the grade, and the inclination angle at which the rockbolts are placed. The model tests was 1/40 scaled simulations of the behavior of the drilled shafts with varying combinations of the major influencing parameters. The incremental effects of reinforcement based on the various parameters have been weighed against load transfer characteristics before and after rockbolt installations.

The Embedded Suction Anchor (ESA) is a type of permanent offshore foundation that is installed by a suction pile. To increase the loading capacity against pullout, three wings (vertical flanges) are attached along the circumference at 120 degrees apart. Analytical parametric study using the proposed analytical solution method has been conducted to identify the effects of several parameters that are thought to influence the behavior of ESAs. The analysis results show that the pullout capacity increases as the anchor depth and the soil strength increase, and decreases as the load inclination angle increases. The anchor having square projectional area and being pulled horizontally at the middle of its length provides the highest pullout capacity.
In this study, the lateral behavior of Pile-Bent structures subjected to lateral loading was evaluated by a load-transfer approach. An analytical method based on the Beam-Column model and nonlinear load transfer curve method was proposed to consider material non-linearity (elastic and yielding) and $P-{\Delta}$ effect. Special attention was given to the lateral deflection of Pile-Bent structures depending on different soil properties, lateral load, slenderness ratio based on pier length and reinforcing effect of casing. From the results of the parametric study, it is shown that the increase of lateral displacement in a pile is much less favorable for an inelastic analysis than for an elastic analysis. It is found that for inelastic analysis, the maximum bending moment is located within a depth approximately 3.5D(D: pile diameter) below ground surface, but within 1.5D when $P-{\Delta}$ effect is considered. It is also found that the magnitude and distribution of the lateral deflections and bending moments on a pile are highly influenced by the inelastic analysis and $P-{\Delta}$ effect, let alone soil properties around an embedded pile.
In this study, the behavior of self-supported earth retaining wall with stabilizing piles was investigated by using a numerical study and field tests in urban excavations. This earth retaining wall can provide stable support against lateral earth pressures through its use of stabilizing piles that provide passive resistance to lateral earth pressures arising due to ground excavations. Field tests at two sites were performed to verify the performance of instrumented retaining wall with stabilizing piles. Furthermore, detailed 3D numerical analyses were conducted to provide insight into the in situ wall behavior. The 3D numerical methodology in the present study represents the behavior of the self-supported earth retaining wall with stabilizing piles. A number of 3D numerical analyses were carried out on the self-supported earth retaining wall with stabilizing piles to assess the results stemming from wide variations of influencing parameters such as the soil condition, the pile spacing, the distance between the front pile and the rear pile, and the pile embedded depth. Based on the results of the parametric study, the maximum horizontal displacement and the maximum bending moment significantly decreased when the retaining wall with stabilizing piles is used. Moreover, the horizontal displacement reduction effect of influencing parameters such as the pile spacing and the distance between the front pile and the rear pile is more sensitive in sandy soil, with a higher friction angle compared to clayey soil. In engineering practice, reducing the pile spacing and increasing the distance between the front pile and the rear pile can effectively improve the stability of the self-supported earth retaining wall with stabilizing piles.

In this study, a CPT-based p-y analysis method was proposed for the displacement analysis of laterally loaded piles. Key consideration was the continuous soil profiling capability of CPT and cone resistance profiles that do not require artificial assumption or simplification for input parameter selection. The focus is on the application into offshore mono-piles embedded in clays. The correlations of p-y function components to the effective cone resistance were proposed, which can fully utilize CPT measurements. A case example was selected from the literature and used to validate the proposed method. Various parametric studies were performed to examine the effectiveness of the proposed method and investigate the effect of property profile and its depth resolution on the p-y analysis. It was found that the calculation could be largely misleading if wrongly interpreted sub-layer condition or inappropriate resolution of input soil profile was involved in the analyses. It was also found that there is a significant influence depth that dominates overall load response of pile. The soil profile and properties within this depth range affect most significantly calculated load responses, confirming that the soil profile within this depth range should be identified in more detail.
