For the elastic migation, the velocity errors between the initial velocity model and true velocity model seriously affect the migrated images. The assumption of an initial velocity model, thus, is one of the critical factor for the successful migration. In case of applying the layered earth model as an initial velocity model, the layer boundary having large velocity contrast can not be defined well with conventional traveltime calculation algolithms and we have the difficulties for expressing the characteristics of the real subsurface. Smooth Background Model (SBM) we have applied as an initial velocity model in our study is characterized to be linearly varying the velocity with the depth, which can express the velocity variation in the subsurface properly. Thus it can properly be applied to traveltime calculation algolithms such as Vidale's method. In this study, Kirchhoff operator for prestack migration was used and the absolute amplitude obtained by modeling was applied as a weighted value to consider the true amplitude for initial model. Initial velocity model for migration was determined by using stacking velocity and we applied this model to real data.
Migration characteristics with forms of channels and bed conditions are studied by constant-radius curve (CRC), sine-generated curve (SGC) and small-wave theory (SWT) method. For channels which are meandering and of which bed conditions are of coarse materials, transverse bed slope, depth and velocity distributions are predicted by CRC and SGC method, and the results are compared with measured field data, And for fine bed-materials of the sinuous channels, lateral and downvalley migration rates are computed by SWT method. It is confirmed from this investigation that transverse mass-flux factor plays significant roles in determining of magnitude and direction of meander migration.
Efffcts of physico-chemical factors on the zonation and vertical distribution of benthic microalgal communities in the tidal flats of Youngkwang and Canaiin, Korea, were studied. Concentrations of nutrients were low throughout the study period. A 38 species of benthic microaigae was identified. Most of the algae were pennate diatoms with small size. Cell numbers at silty sediments were higher than sandy sediments, and showed high patchy distribution. Zonal distributions of benthic microalgae showed higher variation from silty sediment than sandy sediments. Benthic microalgae showed vertical migration within the upper few mm of sediment with periodicity closely related to tidal cycles. Maximum cells were observed from 0 mm depth both sandy and silty sediments. Cells of benthic microalgae in the 1 - 2 mm depth decreased after desiccation of sediments. The variation of cells was higher at sandy sediments than silty sediments. Cell numbers of benthic microalgae showed no positive relationships with pH and nutrinets except NH$_4$-N.
For gas hydrate exploration, long offset multichannel seismic data acquired using by the 4km streamer length in Ulleung basin of the East Sea. The dataset was processed to define the BSRs (Bottom Simulating Reflectors) and to estimate the amount of gas hydrates. Confirmation of the presence of Bottom Simulating reflectors (BSR) and investigation of its physical properties from seismic section are important for gas hydrate detection. Specially, faster interval velocity overlying slower interval velocity indicates the likely presences of gas hydrate above BSR and free gas underneath BSR. In consequence, estimation of correct interval velocities and analysis of their spatial variations are critical processes for gas hydrate detection using seismic reflection data. Using Dix's equation, Root Mean Square (RMS) velocities can be converted into interval velocities. However, it is not a proper way to investigate interval velocities above and below BSR considering the fact that RMS velocities have poor resolution and correctness and the assumption that interval velocities increase along the depth. Therefore, we incorporated Migration Velocity Analysis (MVA) software produced by Landmark CO. to estimate correct interval velocities in detail. MVA is a process to yield velocities of sediments between layers using Common Mid Point (CMP) gathered seismic data. The CMP gathered data for MVA should be produced after basic processing steps to enhance the signal to noise ratio of the first reflections. Prestack depth migrated section is produced using interval velocities and interval velocities are key parameters governing qualities of prestack depth migration section. Correctness of interval velocities can be examined by the presence of Residual Move Out (RMO) on CMP gathered data. If there is no RMO, peaks of primary reflection events are flat in horizontal direction for all offsets of Common Reflection Point (CRP) gathers and it proves that prestack depth migration is done with correct velocity field. Used method in this study, Tomographic inversion needs two initial input data. One is the dataset obtained from the results of preprocessing by removing multiples and noise and stacked partially. The other is the depth domain velocity model build by smoothing and editing the interval velocity converted from RMS velocity. After the three times iteration of tomography inversion, Optimum interval velocity field can be fixed. The conclusion of this study as follow, the final Interval velocity around the BSR decreased to 1400 m/s from 2500 m/s abruptly. BSR is showed about 200m depth under the seabottom

In the seismic migration, Kirchhoff and reverse time migration are used in general. In the reverse time migration using wave equation, two-way and one-way wave equation are applied. The approach of one-way wave equation uses approximately computed downward continuation extrapolator, it need tess amounts of calculations and core memory in compared to that of two-way wave equation. In this paper, we applied one-way wave equation to pre-stack reverse time migration. In the frequency-space domain, forward propagation of source wavefield and back propagration of measured wavefield were executed by using monochromatic one-way wave equation, and zero-lag cross correlation of two wavefield resulted in the image of subsurface. We had implemented prestack migration on a massively parallel processors (MPP) CRAYT3E, and knew the algorithm studied here is efficiently applied to the prestck migration due to its suitability for parallelization.
The mysids, Archaeomysis kokuboi and Acanthomysis sp., clearly exhibited the diel patterns of interspecific horizontal migration in the surf zone at a sandy shore in Yongil Bay, eastern Korea. Shoreward migration of Acanthomysis sp. at sunset resulted in the presence of significantly high numbers of mysids after dark at the bottom of 1 m depth. At first light, Acanthomysis sp. moved back to deeper water of>1 m depth in conjunction with a reverse migration by A. kokuboi. In the afternoon, A. kokuboi moved to offshore, then these species remained there. Although A. kokuboi has been considered an intertidal species in the exposed beaches with strong wave action, this is not the case in a sandy beach of Yongil Bay. We suggest that evidence for behavioral adaptation comes from the response of k. kokuboi to the sheltered beaches with weak wave action. The habitat shifts presumably provide this species with high availability of food materials in the surf zone.
We made a study of 3-D migration which could precisely image data of GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) applied to NDT (Non-Destructive Test) field for the inspection of structural safety. In this study, we obtained 3-D migrated images of important targets in structuresurvey (e.g. steel pipes, cracks) by using 3-D Kirchhoff prestack depth migration scheme developed for seismic data processing. For a concrete model consisting of steel pipe and void, the targets have been well defined with opposite amplitude according to the parameters of the targets. And migrated images using Parallel-Broadside array (XX configuration) have shown higher resolution than those using Perpendicular-Broadside array (YY configuration) when steel pipes had different sizes. Therefore, it is required to analyze the migrated image of XX configuration as well as that of general YY configuration in order to get more accurate information. As the last stage, we chose a model including two steel pipes which cross each other. The upper pipe has been resolved clearly but the lower has been imaged bigger than the model size due to the high conductivity of the upper steel.
Underground migration of $^{54}Mn,\;^{60}Co,\;^{85}Sr\;and\;^{137}Cs$ in paddy and upland conditions was studied through two years' greenhouse experiment. At early and late growth stages of rice, soybean, Chinese cabbage and radish, a mixed solution of the radionuclides was applied to the water or soil surfaces of the culture boxes filled with an acidic loamy-sandy soil for the upper 20cm. Soil was sampled in layers upto $15{\sim}20cm$ down after harvest. Soil concentrations of the radionuclides decreased exponentially with increasing soil depth and more than 80% of the radioactivities remained in top $3{\sim}4cm$. The mobility of the radionuclides decreased in the order of $^{85}Sr>^{54}Mn>^{60}Co{\geq}^{137}Cs$. Downward migrations of the radionuclides were the greatest in rice soil and the lowest in soybean soil which was fertilized with the least amount of N, P and K. Differences in depth profiles between two application times indicate that the amount of daily migration from $0{\sim}1cm$ layer to the lower area decreases with increasing time after deposition. By a simultaneous addition of KCl and lime following the earlier application, downward migration in soybean, Chinese cabbage and radish soils changed little or retarded more or less but that in rice soil accelerated a little.

To characterize quantitatively the transport of $^{99}Tc$ and the global fallout ($^{137}Cs$, $^{90}Sr$, and $^{239+240}Pu$) for soils in Korea, the transport parameters of a convective-dispersion model, apparent migration velocity, and apparent dispersion coefficient were estimated from the vertical depth profiles of the radionuclides in soils. The vertical profiles of $^{99}Tc$ were measured from a pot experiment for paddy soil that had been sampled from a rice-field around the Gyeongju radioactive waste repository in Korea, and the vertical depth distributions of the global fallout $^{137}Cs$, $^{90}Sr$, and $^{239+240}Pu$ were measured from the soil samples that were taken from local areas in Korea. The front edge of the $^{99}Tc$ profiles reached a depth of about 12 cm in 138 days, indicating a faster movement than the fallout radionuclides. A weak adsorption of $^{99}Tc$ on the soil particles by the formation of Tc(VII) and a high water infiltration velocity seemed to have controlled the migration of $^{99}Tc$. The apparent migration velocity and dispersion coefficient of $^{99}Tc$ for the disturbed paddy soil were 2.88 cm/y and 6.3 $cm^2/y$, respectively. The majority of the global fallout $^{137}Cs$, $^{90}Sr$, and $^{239+240}Pu$ were found in the top 20 cm of the soils even after a transport of about 30 years. The transport parameters for the global fallout radionuclides were 0.01-0.1cm/y ($^{137}Cs$), 0.09-0.13cm/y ($^{90}Sr$), and 0.09-0.18cm/y ($^{239+240}Pu$) for the apparent migration velocity: 0.21-1.09 $cm^2/y$ ($^{137}Cs$), 0.12-0.7$cm^2/y$ ($^{90}Sr$), and 0.09-0.36$cm^2/y$ ($^{239+240}Pu$) for the apparent dispersion coefficient.

The Single-channel seismic survey with the source of bubble pulser and drilling survey was carried out in 2008 and 2009 for the site survey of Daecheon-Wonsando area, which was a proposed area of Korea-China subsea tunnel. The goal of this study is to analyze the depth and characteristics of acoustic basement for the stability assessment and tunnel design in this proposed area through combining drilling data with this single-channel seismic data after detailed processing. For this purpose, among the data processing schemes which are usually applied to multi-channel seismic data, we applied the F-K filtering to eliminate the AC(alternating current) noise and the post-stack depth migration to produce depth section. As a result, we verified that the improved depth section could be obtained from single-channel seismic data, and the distribution and characteristics of basement could be analyzed in survey area through the combined analysis with drilling data. However, we could not interpret the detailed structures, fault and fracture zone, due to the quality of bubble pulser source and single-channel data. We expect that those detailed structures can be analyzed when higher resolution seismic data is provided. Therefore, we recommend some items for future seismic survey of subsea tunnel to obtain the high resolution seismic data.
