The use of deodorizing plant products such as persimmon leaves, pine needles and fennel seeds to mask the characteristic odor of kimchi has been proposed. Therefore, in this study, the effect of deodorizing plants on kimchi fermentation and the profile of volatile flavor compounds was investigated. During sensory evaluation tests of sour and fermentation odors of kimchi, plant extract-added kimchi showed higher sensory scores than chopped plant-added kimchi. Additionally, kimchi containing pine needle extracts (0.3-0.6%) and fennel seed extracts (0.05-0.1%) showed higher sensory scores than untreated kimchi. In addition, pine needle extract and fennel seed extract had a significant influence on kimchi fermentation characteristics such as pH, total acidity and the concentration of lactic acid bacteria. The volatile flavor compounds of kimchi and deodorizing plant extracts were also analyzed using GC/MS and the correlation of volatile flavor compounds in kimchi, plant extracts and plant-added kimchi was examined. The results revealed that the sour and fermentation odors of kimchi were reduced using deodorizing plant extracts by changing the kimchi fermentation characteristics.
We evaluated the applicability of baking soda, charco'al, coffee, and green tea as a natural deodorant in Kimchi packaging. Moreover, to evaluate the potential usage of these deodorants in packaging materials and confirm their applicability in high-temperature melt-extrusion processing, the thermal stabilities of the deodorants were investigated, and heat-treated deodorants were evaluated in terms of the deodorizing function compared with non-treated deodorants. Aroma patterns were decreased after deodorizing treatment with all-natural deodorants. Dimethyl disulfide, methyl trisulfide, and diallyl disulfide, the most significant odorous Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of Kimchi, decreased after treatment with the deodorants. In particular, baking soda and charcoal showed the highest efficiency in removing odorous compounds and VOCs from Kimchi, even after high-temperature processing. The acetic acid removal rates for both baking soda and charcoal were 99.9±0.0%. The heating process increases the deodorizing effects of baking soda. Sensory evaluation results showed that there is a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the overall preference for Kimchi samples packaged with charcoal and baking soda. This study provides useful information for the deodorization effects of natural deodorants for Kimchi smell and their applicability for packaging materials.
Poly(ethylene-co-vinylacetate)(EVA) microspheres were prepared by a thermally induced phase separation. The microsphere formation occurred by the nucleation and growth mechanism in the metastable region. The diluents used were toluene. The microsphere formation and growth was followed by the cloud point of the optical microscope measurement. The microsphere size, which was obtained by SEM observation and particle size analyzer, became decreased when the titanium dioxide($TiO_2$) concentration was higher. The deodorizing function of the prepared fabrics was studied by the determination of the decomposing capability for $NH_3$. The deodorant activity of these deodorizing fabrics was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The deodorant activity of $NH_3$ increased with increasing $TiO_2$ concentration of EVA microsphere.

The study that has been conducted is the consideration of the durability of dye, antibacterial activity, and deodorizing effects of cotton and silk textiles dyed with a botanical dying material that has been used in various ways over the years as Korean diet and folk remedies, the pomegranate. 1. The results of the K/S value of dying according to the types of mordants of textiles dyed with pomegranate extract the following have been discovered: The increase of K/S value of dying of the silk textiles appear to be higher than that of the cotton textiles. Next, silk textiles that have been treated with FeSO$_4$.7$H_2O$ appear to be at the highest. 2. The results of the color change measurement show a difference of color can be noticed according to the types of mordant. As opposed to those textiles that had been only scured textiles, all of the dyed textiles appeared to turn yellow. 3. Textiles that had been treated with $K_2$Cr$_2$O(sub)7 recorded the highest durability according to the colorfastness to light results. In the case of the cotton textiles colorfastness to washing, all appeared to show exceptional results of 3rd class or higher, excluding the textiles that had been treated FeSO$_4$.7$H_2O$. However silk textiles recorded relatively low classes of below 3rd to 4th class. For the colorfastness to washing of pollution, the results for both the cotton and silk textiles were excellent at class 4-5. The results of colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to rubbing, and colorfastness to dry cleaning showed comparatively exceptional results of 3rd to 4th class or higher when it came to dyed textiles. 4. According to the measurements of antibiosis, dyed textiles that had been treated with SnCl$_2$.2$H_2O$ appeared to show an exceptional bacterium decrease of approximately 70%. 5. According to the deodorizing measurements, dyed silk textiles appeared to have a higher deodorizing effect than cotton textiles. As for cotton textiles, those that had been treated with FeSO$_4$.7$H_2O$ and in the case of dyed silk textiles those that had been treated SnCl$_2$.2$H_2O$ recorded the highest deodorizing effect.
Objectives: In order to review both the effects of sewage sludge dewaterability and deodorizing ability in the existing advanced sewage treatment process, BIO-CLOD (a solidified mixture of 10% Bacillus concentrate and inorganics) was used as an inorganic conditioner effective for deodorization treatment in addition to the removal of organic matter and nutritive salts. Methods: Sludge dewaterability was evaluated using specific resistance to filtration (SRF) experiments with six agitators and two types of commercially available BIO-CLOD; one that is made by grinding solid matter (powdered BIO-CLOD) and one that has been obtained by sieving a separation with a particle diameter of 100 mesh (100 mesh BIO-CLOD). For deodorization odor treatment experiments, 20 g of commercially available solid BIO-CLOD was submerged in four liters of sewage sludge and mixed and agitated for 45 days. Results: When BIO-CLOD was injected into sewage sludge to experimentally compare specific resistance to filtration (SRF), the optimum amount of BIO-CLOD to be injected was shown to be 2% w/v and the SRF value in this case was $1.35{\times}10^{12}m/kg$. pH changes following BIO-CLOD injection were within 6.5-7.0. By 14 days after submerging BIO-CLOD into the sewage sludge to evaluate its deodorizing ability, $H_2S$ decreased by 68% and methyl mercaptan decreased by 74%. By 45 days after the submergal, both items decreased by 100%, indicating deodorizing ability. Conclusion: To compare the levels of dewaterablity of sewage sludge at different particle sizes of inorganic conditioner, powdered BIO-CLOD, particle size 100 mesh BIO-CLOD, and bentonite were tested. It could be seen that as the powdered BIO-CLOD increased, the precipitability increased up to 62% in 30 minutes. As an inorganic conditioner, BIO-CLOD was identified as a stable sludge conditioner that does not affect pH.
Deep coloration of cotton fabrics with concentrated Rhus verniciflua extract was carried out using large amount of Glauber's salt and a mordant in order to improve dyeability and functional properties such as deodorizing and antimicrobial activity. With increasing in the salt addition upto 80% in the dyeing liquor containing 0.45% extract concentration, K/S value and exhaustion increased threefold from 1.2 to 3.5, indicating that the salt reduced the electrostatic repulsion between the dyes and the cotton fibers. Also the concentrated extract solution to 8% can increase the color build up upto a K/S of 11.1. In addition the combined pre- and post-mordanting methods with potassium alum enhanced the dyeability upto a K/S of 22.2. The ammonia deodorizing property increased with increased color yield of the dyed fabrics. Also the dyed and post-mordanted fabrics with 8% extract concentration showed antimicrobial activity against both Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus.
Deodorization of soybean oil was carried out at a temperature range of $220{\sim}280^{\circ}C$ for 1 or 2hrs. HPSEC(high performance size exclusion chromatography) method was used for the analysis of dimeric acids in deodorized soybean oil. Dimeric acid moieties were produced through the deodorization at $240{\sim}280^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. The amount of dimeric acids produced was found to be in the range of 0.36 to 3.39%. Dimeric acids were not detected under the deodorizing condition of $240^{\circ}C,\;2\;hrs\;or\;250^{\circ}C,\;1\;hr$. The soybean oil deodorized in these conditions had good quality by the color and viscosity tests. The best condition of minimizing the formation of dimeric acids in soybean oils was the deodorizing conditions of $240^{\circ}C,\;2\;hrs\;or\;250^{\circ}C,\;1hr$.
Deodorized soybean oils(DSO) were obtained to 2 types. Sample 1 was carried out a general refining process, which was degumming-alkali refining-bleaching-deodorizing. Sample 2 and 3 were not general refining process, its were carried out only both decantation of insoluble impurities and batch type deodorizing(BTD). At this time, BTD was composed of 3 stages, operating differences were vacuum degree, maximum temperature, stripping steam and retention time etc. DSO obtained were appeared original physicochemical characteristics. Sample 1 had acid value 0.034, Lovibond color, 9.1Y/0.9R, peroxide value 0 and thin yellow color's soybean oil. But sample 2 had acid value, 0.078, Lovibond color, 65.0Y/18.39R/4.2B/0.1N, peroxide value, 0.7 and bright green color's soybean oil. Sample 3 had acid value, 0.072, Lovibond color, 37.3Y/3.8R/0.1B/0.1N, peroxide value 1.6 and dark brown color's soybean oil. These colorful DSO were expects as raw-materials of various seasoning oils as like pine needle and/or perilla leaf seasoning oil.

The purpose of this study was to identify novel extracts of brawn algae with the high deodorant capacity and antioxidant activity. To achieves this, an composition, deodorant performance and free radical scavenging activity were analyzed in powder and water extracts of Ecklonia cava(PEC/EEC), Saccharina japonica(PSJ/ESJ), Eisenia bicyclis(PEB/EEB), Sargassum spp.(PSS/ESS) and Hizikia fusiformis(PHF/EHF) using several analytical methods. Major component of five powders was verified as PEC, phlorotannin; PSJ, alginic acid and glutamic acid; PEB, carotenoid, chlorophyll, phlorotannin, tocopherol and fucoxantin; PSS, ${\beta}$-carotene and polyphenol; PHF, tannin. The highest level of DPPH scavenging activity was detected in EEC($IC_{50}=23.018{\mu}g/ml$), followed by EEB, ESJ, EHF and ESS. The deodorizing performance to ammonia was maintained high level in PEC, PSJ, PEB and PSS, while PHF showed low level in the same condition. But, the deodorizing performance to acetic acid was slightly higher in PSJ and PEC than those of PEB, PSS and PHF. Based on the results of DPPH scavenging activity and deodorizing capacity, we selected fractions of S. japonica as leading extracts and further prepared the 70% acetone extract (AESJ) and 70% ethanol extract (EESJ) from PSJ. The contents of total flavonoid, total phenol and total condensed tannin was significantly increased with 112-209% in AESJ and EESJ compared to those of ESJ. Also, a similar enhancement was observed on the level of DPPH scavenging activity and deodorizing performance against ammonia/acetic acid in AESJ and EESJ. Therefore, these results suggest that AESJ and EESJ contained with high total phenol and total condensed tannin contents may exhibit high deodorant capacity and antioxidant activity as well as has the potential for use as a powerful biomaterial for antibacterial deodorant.
