Visualizing Cluster Hierarchy Using Hierarchy Generation Framework (계층 발생 프레임워크를 이용한 군집 계층 시각화)

  • There are many types of clustering algorithms such as centroid, hierarchical, or density-based methods. Each algorithm has unique data grouping principles, which creates different varieties of clusters. Ordering Points To Identify the Clustering Structure (OPTICS) is a well-known density-based algorithm to analyze arbitrary shaped and varying density clusters, but the obtained clusters only correlate loosely. Hierarchical agglomerative clustering (HAC) reveals a hierarchical structure of clusters, but is unable to clearly find non-convex shaped clusters. In this paper, we provide a novel hierarchy generation framework and application which can aid users by combining the advantages of the two clustering methods.

A Study on the Characteristics of Smoke Control using PIV in Tunnel Fires (터널내 화재시 PIV를 이용한 연기제어 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to measure a smoke density and velocity by using the PIV method in case a fire occurs in tunnels. By doing so, this will estimate a critical velocity, examine its appropriateness, and present the basic materials necessary for designing a smoke control equipment. For this study, a visualization test was conducted based on the 1/20 miniature of a real tunnel according to the Froude scaling. As a part of basic experiments, a correlation between smoke density and brightness was analyzed here, and a critical velocity was estimated on the condition that a fire breaks out in tunnels. As a result, this study finds that there is a correlation between smoke density and brightness within a range of 100% to 30% transmittance, from which a quantitative smoke density can be obtained. The study also suggests that a critical velocity calculated from the Kennedy formula shows about 10% difference from that estimated in the test.

  • Drop size is one of the most important parameters which are control the performance of the engine using liquid fuel/oxidizer and drop formation is mainly controlled by aerodynamic force caused by ambient gas. Because of this, empirical data and correlation acquired under standard ambient condition are not valid. So experiments under high ambient pressure condition to measure the drop size using image processing method And find the empirical correlation between SMD and chamber pressure(density), injection velocity.

  • A simultaneous visualization of the behavior of bubbles and dry spots has been carried out for pool boiling of R-1l3 on a horizontal heater. From video imaging and image processing analysis, the formation of bubbles and dry spots occurs simultaneously, and therefore they should be considered as a synchronized concept rather than independent identities. The dry spot density is equivalent to the active site density in the region before CHF. At CHF point, large dry areas due to the coalescence of neighboring dry areas cover the heater surface.

Spray Characteristics of Dimethyl Ether(DME) Fuel Compared to Various Diesel Fuels

  • It is recognized that alternative fuel such as dimethyl ether (DME) has better combustion polluting characteristics than diesel fuel, even though the cetane number of DME is almost the same as that of diesel. Characteristics of DME spray were observed experimentally under various ambient conditions using a constant volume chamber and a common-rail injection system. N-dodecane and LPG fuel sprays were also observed under same conditions of DME spray. Using spray images from backlight scattering and Mie scattering, characteristics of fuel sprays such as penetration and spray volume were visualized and quantitatively measured. The measurements showed that the penetration of early period decreased remarkably, because evaporation of alternative fuels became prosperous by the influence of flash boiling phenomenon under the condition of the low temperature and pressure compared with n-dodecane. The penetration of DME and LPG spray received the influence of temperature more largely in comparison with low density, because the specific surface area increased by atomizing in high density.

Influence of a simple fracture intersection on density-driven multiphase flow

  • The influence of a single fracture intersection on density-driven immiscible flow is compared between wetting (water into air) and nonwetting (Trichloroethylene into water) flows. At low supply rates, the intersection acted as a hysteretic gate to pulsed flow of the wetting phase, but had minimal influence on nonwetting phase flow. For both cases, increasing the supply rate led to the formation of continuous fluid tendrils that crossed the intersection without interruption. The wetting experiment returned to pulsed flow as the supply rate was decreased, while the nonwetting experiment maintained a continuous flow structure. Results suggest a fundamental difference between wetting and nonwetting phase flows in fracture network.

  • The two-fluid equations are widely used to simulate two-phase flows in a nuclear reactor. For the two-fluid momentum equation, the wall and interfacial drag terms play an important role in predicting a two-phase flow behavior. Since the bubble density is much smaller than the water density, the bubble accelerates faster than the liquid in a nozzle. As a result, the bubble phase becomes faster than the liquid phase in the nozzle. In contrast, the opposite phenomena occur in the diffuser. The purpose of our study is to experimentally show these behaviors in an area-varying channel such as nozzle and diffuser. Experiments were made of turbulent bubbly flows in an area-varying horizontal channel. The velocities of the bubble and liquid phases were measured by the PIV technique. It was shown that the two-phase velocities were no longer close to each other in the area-varying regions. The bubble was faster than the liquid in the nozzle; in contrast, the bubble was slower than the liquid in the diffuser. Code simulations were also performed using the MARS code. By replacing the original wall drag model in the MARS code with Kim (1)'s wall drag partition model, we obtained the simulation results being consistent with experimental observations.

  • A level set tree provides a useful representation of a multidimensional density function. Visualizing the data structure as a tree offers many advantages for data analysis and clustering. In this paper, we present a level set tree estimation algorithm for use with a set of data points. The proposed algorithm creates a level set tree from a family of level sets estimated over a whole range of levels from zero to infinity. Instead of estimating density function then thresholding, we directly estimate the density level sets using one-class support vector machines (OC-SVMs). The level set estimation is facilitated by the OC-SVM solution path algorithm. We demonstrate the proposed level set tree algorithm on benchmark data sets.

  • In order to investigate the relationship between HIV / AIDS and the malformed entertainment industry caused by the prostitution after the prostitution law, this paper visualizes the number of entertainment industry relative to the population density and the number of infected persons using the R program. Also, let's try to grasp the cause of whether any unexpected variable acts via correlation and whether the numerical value of HIV / AIDS-infected person is high in the vicinity of a secret store due to external factors. therefore, In order to create a healthy society, let us examine the goals and attitudes that we should aim for big data analysis through R, and discuss the areas that need further research in the future.

  • Dead-ended operation of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell(PEMFC) provides the simplification of fuel cell systems to reduce fuel consumption and weight of fuel cell. However, the water accumulation within the channel prohibits a uniform supply of fuel. Optimization of the purge strategy is required to increase the fuel cell efficiency since fuel and water are removed during the purge process. In this study, we investigated the average voltage output which depends on two interrelated conditions, namely, the supply gas pressure, purging valve open time. In addition, flow visualization was performed to better understand the water build-up on the anode side and cathode side of PEMFC in terms of a variety of the current density. We analyzed the correlation between the purge condition and water flooding.
