Two-dimensional laser visualization methods have been used in the study of breakup and atomization processes of non-evaporating diesel sprays. A single-hole spray injected into a quiescent atmospheric environment was visualized by the LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence) and scattering technique. The LIF technique could be implemented to take the images which are magnified enough to show the shape of liquid ligaments and small droplets. The spontaneous scattering and fluorescent images of sprays were also taken to investigate the atomization of droplets. In the tip and periphery of a spray. the scattering light is bright and the ratio of fluorescent/scattering intensity is lower. This characteristics indicate the very high number density of small droplets which are well atomized.
Cellular jamming phenomenon, defined as a kinetic arrest, is a commonly observed event in dense cell aggregates in epithelial tissues. Cells lose their motility when the density of the cell population becomes too high. Yet, not much is known about how the jamming occurs and how it influences individual cells in the population. In this study, we investigated the mechanisms during the formation of the jammed state by visualizing various dynamic components such as velocity, traction, and intercellular stress. The visualized properties exhibited interrelated features in similar time domains that can be categorized into specific stages, namely migrating, transitional and steady state. During the migrating stage, cells generated spatially correlated tractions and migrations at the collective migration step and lost these properties becoming a transitional stage. These stepwise analyses presented correlative components which are expected to adjust for explaining the detailed mechanisms of cellular jamming.

Detecting the icing on wind turbine blades built-in cold regions with conventional methods is always a very laborious, expensive and very difficult task. Regarding this issue, the use of smart systems has recently come to the agenda. It is quite possible to eliminate this issue by using the deep learning method, which is one of these methods. In this study, an application has been implemented that can detect icing on wind turbine blades images with visualization techniques based on deep learning using images. Pre-trained models of Resnet-50, VGG-16, VGG-19 and Inception-V3, which are well-known deep learning approaches, are used to classify objects automatically. Grad-CAM, Grad-CAM++, and Score-CAM visualization techniques were considered depending on the deep learning methods used to predict the location of icing regions on the wind turbine blades accurately. It was clearly shown that the best visualization technique for localization is Score-CAM. Finally, visualization performance analyses in various cases which are close-up and remote photos of a wind turbine, density of icing and light were carried out using Score-CAM for Resnet-50. As a result, it is understood that these methods can detect icing occurring on the wind turbine with acceptable high accuracy.
In this study the induced-current density distributions in spherical human model by the magnetic field from electric power lines were analysed with visualization and also the effects of phase difference between components of magneto field were investigated.
Transient and asymmetric density distributions have been investigated by a digital speckle tomography with a novel integration method. Multiple CCD images captured movements of speckles in three angles of view simultaneously because the flows were asymmetric and unsteady. The speckle movements which have been formed by a ground glass between no flow and downward butane flow from an elliptical nozzle have been calculated by a cross-correlation tracking method so that those distances can be transferred to deflection angles of laser rays for density gradients. A novel integration method has been developed to obtain projection data from the deflection angles for the speckle tomography. The unsteady density fields have been reconstructed from the accurate projection values by the digital speckle tomography method using the developed integration method.

Wall pressure measurements and flow visualization were conducted for a 90 degree elbow with an axis curvature radius the same as its inner diameter (125 mm). Reynolds numbers 320,000 and 500,000, based on the inner diameter and bulk velocity, were examined. A deflected inflow, having an almost constant velocity slope and a faster velocity at the inside, was introduced. Ensemble averaged pressure distributions showed that no difference of normalized pressure could be found in both the Reynolds number cases. Power spectral density functions of pressures exhibited that the fluctuation having the Strouhal number (based on the inner diameter and bulk velocity) of 0.6 existed in the downstream region of the elbow, which was 0.1 larger than that of the uniform inflow case [1]. Results of numerical calculations qualitatively coincided with the experimental ones.
Three design parameters were considered in this study: outlet nozzle angle (30°, 60°, 80°), neck length (1 mm, 3 mm), and flow rate (0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 lpm). A neck diameter of 0.5 mm induced cavitation flow at a venture nozzle. A secondary transparent chamber was connected after ejection to increase bubble duration and shape visibility. The bubble size was estimated using a Gaussian kernel function to identify bubbles in the acquired images. Data on bubble size were used to obtain Sauter's mean diameter and probability density function to obtain specific bubble state conditions. The degree of bubble generation according to the bubble size was compared for each design variable. The bubble diameter increased as the flow rate increased. The frequency of bubble generation was highest around 20 ㎛. With the same neck length, the smaller the CV number, the larger the average bubble diameter. It is possible to increase the generation frequency of smaller bubbles by the cavitation method by changing the magnification angle and length of the neck. However, if the flow rate is too large, the average bubble diameter tends to increase, so an appropriate flow rate should be selected.
The Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) operates at ambient temperature as a low-temperature fuel cell. During its operation, voltage losses arise due to factors such as operating conditions and material properties, effecting its performance. Computational simulations of fuel cells can be categorized into 1D simulation and CFD, chosen based on their specific application purposes. In this study, we carried out an analysis validation using 1D geometry and compared its performance with the results from 2D geometry analysis. CFD allows for the representation of pressure, velocity distribution, and fuel mass fraction according to the geometry, enabling the analysis of current density. However, the 1D simulation, simplifying governing equations to reduce time cost, failed to accurately account for fuel distribution and changes in fuel concentration due to fuel cell operations. As a result, it showed unrealistic results in the cell voltage region dominated by concentration loss compared to CFD.
We provide R scripts to detect outliers in multivariate data and visualization. Detecting outliers is provided using three approaches 1) Robust Mahalanobis distance, 2) High Dimensional data, 3) density-based approach methods. We use the following techniques to visualize detected potential outliers 1) multidimensional scaling (MDS) and minimal spanning tree (MST) with k-means clustering, 2) MDS with fviz cluster, 3) principal component analysis (PCA) with fviz cluster. For real data sets, we use MLB pitching data including Ryu, Hyun-jin in 2013 and 2014. The developed R scripts can be downloaded at "http://www.knou.ac.kr/~sskim/ddpoutlier.html" (R scripts and also R package can be downloaded here).
