  • Let {$X_{n},\;n\;\geq\;1$} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with absolutely continuous cumulative distribution function (cdf) F(x) and probability density function (pdf) f(x). Suppose $X_{U(m)},\;m = 1,\;2,\;{\cdots}$ be the upper record values of {$X_{n},\;n\;\geq\;1$}. It is shown that the linearity of the conditional expectation of $X_{U(n+2)}$ given $X_{U(n)}$ characterizes the lomax, exponential and pareto distributions.

  • Steady-state I-V characteristics of a resonant tunneling diode (RTD) is calculated by numerical analysis using quantum liouville equation based on wigner function which is derived from density operator. Modifications to the conventional discrete model are made to calculate more accurate quantum correlations. It is pointed out that we must include inelastic processes and the resistivity of the contacting layers to get a much more credible potential which can be theoretically obtained from the simple screening theory. The effects of spatially-varying effective mass is also checked briefly.

  • Let X and Y be independent identically distributed nondegenerate random variables with common absolutely continuous probability distribution function F(x) and the corresponding probability density function f(x) and $E(X^2)$<${\infty}$. Put Z = max(X, Y) and W = min(X, Y). In this paper, it is proved that Z - W and Z + W or$(X-Y)^2$ and X + Y are independent if and only if X and Y have normal distribution.

  • This paper is concerned with the strong consistency of the estimators of the autocovariance function and the spectral density function for the autoregressive process in the case where only an amplitude modulated process with missing data is observed. These results will give a simple and practical sufficient condition for the strong consistency of those estimators. Finally, some examples are given to illustrate the application of main result.

  • Results on the analytic behavior of the limiting spectral distribution of large dimensional random matrices, studied in Marcenko and Pastur [2], are derived. Using the Stieltjes transform, it is shown that the limiting distribution has a continuous derivative away from zero, the derivative being analytic whenever it is positive [3]. In the present paper, it is derived that the behavior of it resembles the behavior of a square root function near the boundary of its support.

  • In this paper, an automatic histogram specification method is proposed for image enhancement, Fuzzy membership value is adopted for the representation of image histogram. The desired PDF is automatically constructed by the fuzzy membership value. Fuzzy membership value is extracted from dark membership, bright membership function and original histogram. The effectual results are demonstrated by desired PDF which meet the image enhancement requirements. The performance and effectiveness are shown by the analysis and the resultant image in comparison with histogram equalization method.

  • This paper investigates a method for dtermining a threshold value based on the probability distribution function for color image segmentation. Principal components of normalized color is nalyzed and found that there are effective color transforms for outdoor scents. We esplain the functional relationship of the treshold and the probability of a regiona detection, asuming bivarate Gaussian probability density function. Experimental results show that the probability of detection is proportional to the segmented area.

  • In this paper, the breakdown strength of Pure HDPE(High density polyethylene) films and aged HDPE films were evaluated using 2-parameter Weibull distribution function. The result show that both were fitted 2-parameter Weibull distribution. This method could be used to be the diagnostic tool to evalute the insulation performance and endurance under the multiple stresses.

  • Radial Basis Function Network (RBFN)을 이용하여 플라즈마 전자밀도를 모델링하였다. RBFN의 예측성능은 학습인자의 함수로 최적화하였다. 체계적인 모델링을 위해 통계적인 실험계획법이 적용되었으며, 실험은 반구형 유도 결합형 플라즈마 장비를 이용하여 수행이 되었다. 전자밀도 측정에는 Langmuir probe가 이용되었다. 최적화된 GA-RBFN모델을 일반 RBFN모델과 비교하였으며, 11%정도 모델의 예측성능을 향상시켰다.
