  • The Proposed goodness-of-fit test Statistic $\hat{\lambda}_{\alpha}$ derived from the test Statistc in Kim (1992) is itself a smoothing parameter which is selected to minimize an estimated MISE for a truncated series estimator, $d_{\hat{\lambda}{n}}$, of the comparison density function. Therefore, this test statistic leads immediately to a point estimate of the density function in the event that $H_{0}$ is ejected. The limiting distribution of $\hat{\lambda}_{\alpha}$ was obtained under the null hypothesis. It is also shown that this test is consistent against fixed alternatives.

  • Unsteady two-dimensional nonlinear waves which are generated by the numerical wavemaker of plunging type are numerically simulated using a finite difference method in rectangular grid system. Two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation are used for the computations. Irregular leg lengths and stars are employed near the boundaries of body and free surface to satisfy the boundary conditions. Marker-density function method is adopted for the simulation of wave breaking phenomena, and the computations are carried out with various wave amplitudes and two section shapes of wavemaker. The computation results are compared with other existing computational and experimental results, and the agreement between the experimental data and the computation results is good.

  • The adaptive symbol selection scheme(ASSS) is popular in reducing peak to average power ratio(PAPR) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) signals. The probability density function(pdf) of the samples' amplitudes of the adaptively selected OFDM signal without over-sampling has been considered to be approximately equal to the Rayleigh pdf. In this paper, we derive a more precise pdf which shows the relationship between the probability distribution of the samples' amplitudes and the number of the candidate symbols for ASSS. Using the newly derived pdf in the theoretical analysis, more accurate calculation results can be obtained.

  • This paper presents the application of the substrctural analysis based on the frequency responses for the prediction of the interior noise in a car. The complex trimmed body with the high modal density is presented by the experimental data. Finite element model presents the powertrain and its subframes with the lower modal density. The substructural analysis based on the frequency responses combines the frequency response functions from the numerical analysis and the experiments. It describes the interior noise successwfully. Using this method we can pick up the most dominant paths for the booming noise and predict the effects of the design changes easily.

  • The filtration of the magnetic fibrous polymeric filter with packing density profile made of a self-bonded, nonwoven structure comprising a thermoplastic polymer and a magnetic substance was investigated using an oil filter tester, a particle quantifier and an image analyzer system. The magnetic fibrous polymeric filter showed excellent filtration efficiency compared with conventional paper filter. From the experimental results, It is deduced that the filtration mechanism of conventional paper filter is only the function of physical porosity by surface filteration. On the other hand, the newly magnetic fibrous polymeric filter is designed with a new concept in filtration mechanism. That is, it has a dual function of depth and magnetic filters by physical porosity and magnetic attraction. The newly magnetic fibrous polymeric filter has been shown to be a highly effective oil filter for lubrication systems.

  • A new blind equalization algorithm that is based on maximizing the probability that the constant modulus errors concentrate near zero is proposed. The cost function of the proposed algorithm is to maximize the probability that the equalizer output power is equal to the constant modulus of the transmitted symbols. Two blind information-theoretic learning (ITL) algorithms based on constant modulus error signals are also introduced: One for minimizing the Euclidean probability density function distance and the other for minimizing the constant modulus error entropy. The relations between the algorithms and their characteristics are investigated, and their performance is compared and analyzed through simulations in multi-path channel environments. The proposed algorithm has a lower computational complexity and a faster convergence speed than the other ITL algorithms that are based on a constant modulus error. The error samples of the proposed blind algorithm exhibit more concentrated density functions and superior error rate performance in severe multi-path channel environments when compared with the other algorithms.

  • An effective live load model for analyzing probable maximum live load effects such as moment and shear in transverse direction was developed. The main procedure of this live load model is composed of four parts, i.e., firstly, determination of the appropriate influence lines in longitudinal direction, secondly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns in longitudinal direction, thirdly, determination of the appropriate influence lines in transverse direction, and fourthly, application of the characteristics of vehicles and traffic patterns in transverse direction. Through this procedure, the probabilistic distributions of maximum probable load effects are deduced in the form of probability density function (PDF) and/or cumulative density function(CDF). This live load model is able to consider local or global deterioration of bridges in the structural analysis.

The proposed live load model is not limited by bridge types(number of spans or girders) and can consider local or global deterioration of bridges in the analysis. Besides, load effects can be determined at any section without restrictions.

  • The breaking phenomenon of regular periodic waves generated by a numerical wave maker is simulated by finite-difference method which can cope with strong interface motions. The air and water flows are simultaneously solved in the time-marching solution procedure for the Navier-Stokes equation. A density-function technique is devised for the implemenation of the interface conditions. The accuracy is examined and applied to the simulation of two-dimensional breaking phenomena of periodic gravity waves.

  • Numerical simulation is made of the three-dimensional wave breaking motion about a part of a floating offshore structure containing a circular cylinder mounted vertically onto a lower hull in regular periodic gravity wave generated by a numerical wave maker. TUMMAC-VIII finite-difference method is newly developed for such a problem. By use of density-function technique the three-dimensional wave breaking motion is approximately implenented in the framework of rectangular grid system. A porosity technique is devised for the implementation of the no-slip bydy boundary conditions. The generation of breaking waves by the interaction of incident waves with the structure is well simulated and interesting features of breaking waves are revealed with containing degree of quantitative and qualitative accuracy.
